Chapter 31: Chapter 31
I gazed at Aurel, who was peacefully sleeping next to me on my bed. She looked so enthusiastic hearing my story about our clan, even though I didn't explicitly mention that we were werewolves. She was so eager that she even fell asleep, resembling a child listening to a fairy tale. Slowly, I withdrew my hand, which had been her pillow. I didn't want to disturb her sleep. I gently caressed her face, causing her to snuggle even closer to my chest. It was becoming increasingly difficult to control myself, especially with her tempting scent.
I then directed my gaze to the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent deeply. Reluctantly, I got up from the bed. I needed to meet Rex immediately; there were many questions I needed to ask the half-human, half-wolf being.
"Meet me in the Neutral Dimension," I sent a packlink message to Rex before disappearing, leaving Aurel behind. I had placed protective regnum shields around our home to ensure her safety. After a few minutes, Rex arrived in the Neutral Dimension. He approached me in his wolf form, his white and gray fur shifting in gradients. Moments later, he shifted back into his human form.
"Have you just been hunting?" I asked, looking at Rex with his characteristic silver-white hair. He immediately shifted back to human form.
"Why did you call me?" he asked.
"I have many questions that need answers," I stated, making Rex give me a serious look. It seemed he had expected this, as I had summoned him directly to the Neutral Dimension, a place where no one would overhear our conversation.
"Aurel is currently at my house, resting," I said, noting the displeased expression that crossed Rex's face when I mentioned his cousin.
"Rest assured, I'll make sure she's safe," I added, but Rex merely snorted, as if dismissing my words.
"Ask your questions, and then I'll go pick up Aurel," he said, sounding somewhat impatient.
"One of my questions is whether she's truly human," I inquired, causing Rex to furrow his brow.
"Of course, she's human. Did you expect her to be like us, or maybe like me?" Rex asked.
"And Aurel is aware that I'm not human," I continued, causing Rex's expression to shift to one of surprise. However, he quickly composed himself.
"What do you mean?" Rex asked, seemingly seeking further explanation from me.
"You already know, don't you, that my resurrection is connected to Aurel, and I have confirmed that if it's all true, the beginning of my resurrection is due to the contact between me and Aurel. Several times this has happened as you've seen before, and earlier, when I was near Aurel, I experienced the same thing. I couldn't control my pain, and I didn't want to appear sad in front of Aurel. She would surely keep asking probing questions, and at that moment, the thought that crossed my mind was to disappear from her sight," I explained, causing Rex to widen his eyes.
"You just disappeared from Aurel's presence?" Rex asked, making me nod.
"Yes, my thought at the time was that I had to go to the Neutral dimension. I couldn't let Aurel see me transform into a Wolf, even though I've gained half of my resurrection back, it would surely frighten her," I continued explaining.
"In that case, you could erase her memory. I don't want Aurel to be shocked by what will happen to her," Rex suggested, realizing that Aurel was the trigger for my resurrection. He couldn't deny his destiny, as eventually, he would become my partner. However, the question remained: was she human? What really happened, and what puzzle did I need to solve?
"I've tried that too, erasing her memory, but it's been in vain," I said, raising more questions in Rex's mind.
"What do you mean by 'in vain'?"
"My powers don't affect Aurel. I've tried several times, and she remains unaffected. She remembers everything vividly. I've even revealed my powers and disappeared in front of her. Eventually, I confessed that I'm not human, although I didn't explicitly say I'm a werewolf," I explained, causing Rex to fall silent, seemingly processing all the information I provided.
"Is she scared? How is it possible that she's still at your house after hearing all of this?" Rex asked, prompting a chuckle from me. I even wiped a tear from the corner of my eye.
"That's what I initially thought, just like you. But you'd be surprised when you see her innocent face, like a child waiting for someone to tell her a bedtime story. She's so excited, lying on my bed, listening to me talk about our clan. Eventually, she falls asleep, asleep in my embrace," I said, exaggerating my words to make a point, leaving Rex's jaw hanging.
"You can't deny it anymore. In the end, Aurel is indeed meant to be my partner. She's my destined one, my soulmate. Regardless of whether she's human or one of our kind, our fates are intertwined. So, before I ask the next question, let me make it clear that you can't interfere anymore when it comes to me and Aurel. You can't prohibit anything," I stated, making Rex seem to realize the situation.
Just like him and Brenda, no matter how hard he resisted, he couldn't fight against it. He had to make peace with his destiny, accept being half human and half werewolf, and become Brenda's eternal partner. I didn't know how long their complicated relationship would last, and fortunately, their mate link wasn't rejecting them. It might just be a matter of time, and I didn't want to meddle too much in other people's affairs. I just needed to focus on myself and Aurel.
"So, what do you want to hear from me?" Rex finally asked.
"You know very well about Aurel's origin, don't you?" I inquired, causing Rex to fall silent for a moment.
"What I know is that Aurel is my aunt's child, and I'm certain that my aunt is human, just like my mother," Rex explained.
"How about her father?" I asked.
"He's human too. I've met him before, and I'm sure Aurel is also human. I can tell with just one look," Rex clarified.
"Could she be like you? Could it be possible that Aurel is adopted by her parents?" I asked, leaving Rex silent once again. He seemed to be comparing his situation with Aurel's, as fundamentally, Rex wasn't Anna and Jo's biological child. They were the parents who took care of him, and he was truly human while being half-werewolf. Although Rex still didn't know his biological mother, he knew his biological father was in Wentira, where our Clan was located. Rex didn't want to return, and that's why Brenda couldn't return either. Instead, my beloved father instructed Brenda, Rex, and a few other werewolves to stay with me in the human world, solely to watch over me.
"I don't know about that, but I'm certain that from a young age, even since she was a baby, Aurel has been part of our family," Rex said, leaving me speechless. What kind of puzzle was I facing now? I fell into silence, my head throbbing with all the questions. Unfortunately, despite meeting and conversing with Rex, there was no clear way to explain Aurel's origin.
"Then, how can a human have a scent like yours?" I mumbled, causing Rex to once again look at me with a questioning gaze.
"You can smell Aurel's scent?" Rex asked, to which I nodded.
"Yes, even though it's faint, not as strong as when I smell Brenda's scent, it's still enough to make it difficult for me to control myself. And it seems that's why I didn't realize Aurel was my destined one from the beginning. Her pure human aura masked her scent. But when she began to have more physical contact with me and got closer to me, her scent started to emerge slowly. That's what I've concluded. That's why I've been trying to be close to Aurel as often as possible," I explained further, making Rex rub his face in frustration. It seemed he was still struggling to accept the fact that his cousin was my destined partner.
"Alright, it seems I need to think of another way to achieve my resurrection perfectly and to find out more about Aurel. Moving forward, I'll ask for your help more often. But remember, never mention this to Brenda and Lauv. Even though Brenda knows Aurel is somehow connected to the mark of my resurrection, she's still more aligned with my father. I don't want to complicate things for Aurel, and the same goes for you. So, for now, we have to work together, even if you're reluctant. This is for Aurel," I clarified before patting Rex's shoulder and leaving the Neutral dimension.
I didn't care if my questions were causing Rex a headache because I felt the same way. Back in my room, I saw Aurel still sleeping peacefully. As before, I tried to approach her. Just looking at her serene face caused me to involuntarily curl my lips. I never expected that the woman I once scolded and berated would be my partner. If I had known, I would have treated her much better. I don't know why destiny brought us together late. I should have realized that my true destined partner was right here.
Initially, I had given up. I didn't care about my resurrection or finding a partner. I thought I would remain in isolation for the rest of my life. But after learning that Aurel was my destined partner, I don't know why I wanted to possess her immediately. I wanted to claim Aurel as mine, to hold onto her and never let go.
