Chapter 30: Chapter 30
I was genuinely surprised. I even stood up from my seat and looked at Aurel. This time, it wasn't just about my resurrection that I wanted to find out from the woman in front of me, but also about who she really was. She wasn't affected by my power to erase memories. She was completely immune to it. I immediately tried to hold her hand, believing that if she was truly human, I would be able to sense her blood flowing. I'd feel the fragility of her body. However, at this moment, Aurel's scent was so captivating, drawing me closer to her. I was now convinced that this resurrection had to do with Aurel, and what else could it mean?
"Do you remember everything?" I asked to confirm, making Aurel nod.
"Yes, I remember everything. I remember the look of pain on your face. I remember how you disappeared suddenly in front of me," Aurel replied, making me even more certain that my power had no effect on her whatsoever.
"Do you want to try something?" I asked again, making Aurel fall silent before nodding.
"Are you going to show your power again?" Aurel asked, and I nodded. At least I needed to try once more. I had to ensure that she wasn't affected by my power to erase memories. I summoned the power from my palm again, not as strong as the one I used on the resurrected wolves, but it should be enough to confront a human like Aurel. Her eyes lit up when she saw the power in my palm. It was almost amusing; she didn't even seem afraid in the slightest.
I approached her once more, bringing my hand to the side of her face, attempting to extract the memories that were previously imprinted in her mind, trying to erase my presence from them. Then, I felt like I had done what I usually did, and I looked back at Aurel, who was silent.
"Do you feel anything different? Do you remember the pool incident?" I asked again, making Aurel nod once more.
"Yes, I still remember it. Why, though? What should have happened to me when you applied your power to me?" Aurel asked, making me even more convinced of my theory.
"Who are you really?" I asked once again, making Aurel click her tongue in annoyance.
"Now you should be the one asking that. You have powers; you can disappear. Are you a deity's descendant or something?" Aurel's innocent expression made me burst into laughter right then and there. I laughed while looking at her, completely disbelieving.
"Come on, that's too grand for me. I'm not a deity," I replied, making Aurel attempt to think.
"Are you a superhero, then? No way, are you a shape-shifter?" she asked again, leaving me silent. Yes, maybe our kind could be categorized as shape-shifters.
"You can consider me whatever you want," I said, making Aurel cover her mouth.
"Oh my God, I can't believe there's something like this in this day and age. I thought it was just a fairy tale," Aurel said, and what intrigued me was her enthusiasm. I thought she would be scared and avoiding me.
"Are you not afraid if I'm a shape-shifter?" I asked, making Aurel immediately shake her head.
"No, because I feel like you won't hurt me. You don't seem dangerous, even though you're a bit annoying," she replied again, causing me to chuckle once more.
"You're really not scared?" I asked again, and Aurel nodded confidently.
"Yes, I'm not afraid. Are you going to hurt me?" Aurel asked again, making me fall silent. I put on a serious face, for some reason thinking of intimidating her. I channeled the remaining power within me, causing my eyes to emit a glow. The aura around me changed, and I could sense that Aurel felt it too. That's when I noticed her hair reacting. It seemed she was affected by the atmosphere I created. Of course, the intimidating gaze of a werewolf would never fail to instill fear in a human, just like the one I saw on Aurel's face. After that, I withdrew my power.
"So, you are scared after all," I said, making Aurel blink her eyes.
"No, maybe I was just a bit surprised. Turns out, this is what it feels like to be scared of you," she replied, making me look at her with a questioning gaze.
"And now you're not scared of me anymore?" I asked, making Aurel fall silent, seemingly pondering her current feelings.
"What if I really am scared of you? Are you truly a shape-shifter?" she asked.
"What's certain is that I'm not human," I replied, making her pause.
"That means I just kissed a shape-shifter," she said, and I couldn't help but be baffled by the fact that in a moment like this, she was thinking about the kiss we had shared.
"Why does it matter if I'm not human? Can't I kiss you?" I asked, but before Aurel could respond, I interrupted her again.
"Oh, and by the way, the first person who ever kissed me is you. I wanted to ask for the reason behind it," I said, making Aurel avert her gaze, probably feeling embarrassed.
"Hey, answer my question," I urged her, and we fell into silence, locked in a gaze. I was captivated by her beautiful eyes, and she seemed to return the gaze.
"I just wanted to do it. I wanted to make sure of something," Aurel answered.
"What did you want to make sure of?"
"I wanted to make sure that you're back, that you're okay. You'll never know how scared I felt when I saw you disappear like that. That's why I did it, to calm myself," Aurel replied, surprising me with her response.
"Are you angry?" Aurel asked, and it sounded quite funny. Why would I be angry when she was the one who approached me first?
"If I were angry, I wouldn't have kissed you back. In fact, the kiss still feels insufficient to me," I replied, making Aurel fall silent.
"So, from now on, you won't push me away or avoid me anymore?" I asked, making her fall silent again. For some reason, I could see hesitation on Aurel's face.
"I've never pushed you away," she replied, which made me roll my eyes in exasperation.
"Do you remember what you did while I followed you at school? You kept pushing me away," I retorted, and Aurel's face returned to normal.
"That was because I felt uncomfortable. What if your girlfriend found out that you were getting close to another woman?"
"That means you just kissed a man who you thought was in a relationship. So, what should we do now?" I asked, making Aurel snort.
"Yeah, I might regret it. Should we just forget about it?" Aurel asked, a suggestion I immediately disagreed with. That was definitely the worst idea to consider.
"How could I forget a kiss you gave me? I don't care about anyone else, and as for a girlfriend, I've already clarified that I don't have one right now. I'm just looking for a Mate," I answered, causing Aurel to furrow her brows.
"A mate?" Aurel asked.
"Yes, a mate who's right for me. You know, in my clan, each man only has one mate, and I'm currently looking for mine," I explained, making Aurel more interested in our conversation.
"Does that mean you have a different world for your clan?" For some reason, it felt like I was telling a fairy tale to a child, judging from the enthusiasm in her eyes. Her innocent expression was quite amusing.
"Yes, you can think of it that way," I answered. I wasn't sure if I should tell Aurel about the origin of our kind, but to me, it didn't matter. I was convinced that Aurel was my partner, even though everything was still vague, her scent was faint, and my transformation wasn't complete. Maybe it was because a human aura was at play, but seeing this event unfold, I was certain that Aurel wasn't entirely human. There had to be something I needed to find out. I needed to figure out how to solve this puzzle, and the only person I could ask was Rex. Even though I wasn't keen on dealing with him any further, there was no other way.
"Yes, you can think of it that way. Just like other human societies, we have our own rules, and humans shouldn't know about our existence. It would cause chaos if we were discovered by each other," I explained, and Aurel nodded.
"Yes, I've heard that, but don't worry, I'll keep it a secret. So, what's next?" Aurel asked, and that made me laugh.
"Next, you need to know one thing: if I share this with you, you must agree to a condition," I said, and Aurel fell silent.
"What kind of condition?" she asked.
"You know, even in stories, humans aren't supposed to know about us. If that happens, everything will fall apart. So, my condition is that you never reveal this to anyone," I clarified.
"Yes, I know that, but don't worry, I'll keep it a secret. And then?" Aurel asked, prompting a chuckle from me.
"Well, if you break your promise, I won't let you go. You'll be bound to me forever. Can you handle that?" I asked, making Aurel ponder my words.
"Will I be cursed or maybe you'll erase me?" she asked, and her question actually made me smile. For some reason, it felt amusing.
"If you do it, I won't let you go forever. You'll be constantly tied to me. Can you handle that?" I asked, making Aurel once again lost in thought about the sentence I had just spoken.
"Yes, don't worry, I'm someone you can trust. So, what about your partner then?" she asked, making me fall silent. Of course, my current Mate was right in front of me, and that was only something I could sense internally. Aurel would probably be shocked if I told her she was my mate.
