TRISTAN:

The prince was smart. Seeing how he couldn’t cross the spring because of the water attacks, he made sure to climb the trees to get to the other side and waited for me.

“Answer me, Shadow wolf,” he roared, “Why are you doing this? Were these vampires not your allies?”

I spat some of the blood that had foamed in my mouth. Unlike the prince, I had no power to regenerate that easily, although this wound couldn’t kill me at once either…

“Tell me what your intentions are! Do you have another leader,” he roared once more.

I growled at him menacingly. I raised my sharp claws at him, but he was too quick. I ended up cutting through several trees without inflicting a single scratch on his body.

Damn it! He was just one incessant runt that’s just hard to kill!

The blood continued to trickle down my neck. I can no longer afford to stay and face him. I had to use my powers now.

“All hail the Falcon Wings,” I howled as a form of distraction, and as soon as I said this, I produced black flames to cover my whole body.

This was my power – the flame of invisibility. As soon as I used these dark flames, no one can see me…

I galloped away as the prince darted from left to right, looking for any signs of where I went.

I cannot afford to lose even a second. I could feel weariness taking over my body swifter than I could bear…

Did that blasted prince use a drug to make me sleepy? If that was the case, this is bad… I could pass out anytime and lose consciousness…

No matter what happens, I’ve got to hide… I’ve got to flee away from here…

I ran as swiftly as I could. I was already losing grip of my consciousness and my connection with Arthur felt fleeting. At that moment, only one thought filled my mind…

Dahlia… My Dahlly… I’m sorry I deceived you… Will I ever get to see you again?

Somewhere in the distance, I heard a familiar wolf growl, but my head felt far too fuzzy to even care.

******************************

DAHLIA:

I can’t believe I had agreed to let his wolf do this to me again just so I could see it with my own eyes… I must have been mad!

Now, as the deed was almost done, and he and I had almost finished, I could only cling to his fur in suspended pain and pleasure.

Albus - his fur was as white as the snow of winter… Was it really this wolf that had taken possession of my body before?

But I was sure it was a black wolf – a wolf with fur as dark as night itself… How can my memory be so bad?

‘You’re not mad, Dahlly… This is not him,’ Eva grunted in our shared consciousness.

‘That other wolf was black all over. He was meaner and rougher. He was not gentle at all…’

Eva was right. This wasn’t the wolf who had taken advantage of me back then, and this wasn’t the wolf whom Corlion had encountered. They had the same masculine musk, but this wasn’t definitely his face and form…

Who was that black wolf then, and where was he?

As soon as he had released his life-giving pleasures inside of me, the white wolf gently fell on top of me. I stroked his fur, thinking of how my Tristan could conceal all these secrets inside of him…

‘If you really wanted to know, then let’s hear it from his own mouth,’ Eva answered.

‘But how,’ I asked Eva. Tristan already told me he only had one wolf, and this wolf clearly did not bear any marks of a crystal rune on his forehead.

‘There are more ways to coax out the truth from a lover, Dahlly,’ she growled, “after all, our mate cannot fully lie to us... We just needed to know which questions to ask.”

I squirmed from underneath Tristan’s massive wolf form. I cleaned myself and dressed up before I slipped right next to him again on our bed.

I immediately fell asleep from weariness, and as promised, Eva took me to the place where she intended to meet our mate – the Animal Spirit World.

This was the first time I had ever travelled in this alternate plane of existence. In this realm, werewolves like us could only exits only in our animal forms. Once there, one can speak to any animal spirit, whether they exist in the past or in the present, but only if one was lucky...

I looked at the salmon pink sky in the horizon and the lush green forest ahead of us. It really was beautiful in the Animal Spirit World.

“Albus… Where are you,” Eva growled as soon as we reached the place.

Soon, Albus – Tristan’s white wolf – appeared before us. He was thrice Eva’s size, but surprisingly, he was even gentler than a puppy. He licked our snout as a greeting.

“Why did you call me here? Didn’t we just see each other?”

“You fell asleep, you dummy, so of course I missed you!”

Eva did know how to talk smoothly to this wolf… I wish I had half the courage and ease she had when dealing with Tristan…

She frolicked a bit with him, nipping him by the ears and playing along in the grassland before settling down and cuddling with him.

“Albus, where’s the other one?”

“Hmm,” his ears twitched, “what do you mean?”

“The black wolf… Wasn’t there always a black wolf with you?” my wolf snuggled closer to Albus as she said this, trying to put him in utmost ease.

“Yes?”

That didn’t seem like either a confirmation or a denial…

“Tell me, isn’t that the black wolf and you are hosted in one body?”

The silence between us was unbearable. Albus couldn’t quite look at us in the eye. He kept evading our direct stare.

Perhaps Eva’s hunches were right…

“That wolf… He is also our mate, right?”

“W-What do you mean?”

“Tell me the truth… You and that wolf, you live in the same body, right? And the two of you are both my mates, aren’t you?”

“Eva… Please…”

“Please what?”

“Please don’t ask me questions that I cannot answer…”

His demeanor was enough. He didn’t need to say a single word to confirm that our initial thoughts were on point.

There was still one more thing that we needed to confirm though…

“Albus…. Are you and him from the Shadow Rune Pack?”
