Chapter 88: Chapter 88
Maya crumpled her disposable Expresso cup, tossing it into the trash can. She blew out a sigh and rubbed her face with her hand wondering why she just had to get into a fight with Xavier about this? Why couldn't he understand her for a change? See this from her perspective?
Sighing again, she switched her phone on, her hand hovering on the call icon beside the moving company she had contacted a day before, not knowing if it was right to cancel their former agreement and just ask for her things to leave Xavier's house this night.
She didn't want to go back to him. If she did, she knew he'll try to convince her why taking a job in Tyler's company was a bad idea and she'll disagree, then it'll be the vicious argument once again.
She was happy they were finally having an understanding, must they fight over everything all the damn time?
And what was this hatred he had for Tyler that was so overwhelming and strong? He was even okay to let her go as his assistant even though he seemed to want her back but was persistent on not wanting her working with Tyler either even though she had told him that was her dream. Her passion.
When Tyler had emailed her the offer, she had been the happiest. Of course, she couldn't scream or yell in excitement because the next minute her dilemma dawned on her.
Xavier was a friend, surprisingly a close one and she'll avoid this argument with him if she could. Besides, wasn't it just two weeks he had risked his life, stupidly standing in front of a man with a bullet seething?
But this was her life, her future. Couldn't she at least get a say in it? Must he be so adamant and even though he had his reservation about Tyler, couldn't he put it aside and try to be happy for her.
She'd have done the same if the situation was so reversed besides what was so bad, that had happened in the past that was so unforgivable?
Her phone rang, she looked away not wanting to say a word to Xavier. Of course, he was just discovering she wasn't at home. He should get used to not seeing her in his house anyway.
Because once she got her shit together, she'll be gone out of his life next too.
She had wanted to remain friends, but he was making that option difficult by being so annoying!
She stood up, her decision made, she walked into the train, that'll take her back to her housemate's house. She could sort her belongings later and they could come next but as for now, she was so done.
She readjusted the baseball hat she had worn in her haste to leave since her hair was such a mess.
Her phone rang again and again, she pursed her lips and switched it off. She'd made the right decision, it was for the best they part ways, besides it was bound to happen eventually.

Xavier groaned as he waited for Maya to open the door and let him inside, so he could explain.
He didn't mean to get all angry at her or Even shout at her. The mere thought of her working with Tyler, just the mere thought that his brother might just make good on his threat was enough to make him boil.
"Maya, I won't leave here, until you talk to me, you know?" He whispered, even as he slid down, in a sitting form he rested his weight on the door.
He was surprised when it opened. He raised his brow, it wasn't locked, or have she unlocked it amid his persistent knock and rant.
Trying to look as remorseful as he felt, he jerked the door open, "Maya I__" he squinted.
The room was empty. He opened the adjoined bathroom and she wasn't there.
Agitated, he buzzed his gateman in.
"Did you see Maya leave the building?"
All the helpers talked about her and to her on a first-name basis. Though he had scowled at first, at how casual they had sounded with her and how lenient and nice she was to them, but now he could smile when he saw her talking so free with the helpers.
That was his Maya and he wasn't enthusiastic about changing her. Consequently, she had Somehow, managed to win the heart of every worker too. So much so, they went against his express wish to please her even though it was to their detriment.
And he suspected this was one of those cases. A suspicion that seemed more like the truth as the gateman hesitated.
He had expressly asked him to make sure, he was being told before Maya leaves the house. That was to prevent her from engaging in strenuous activities when she had not fully recovered but regardless, he had not yet lifted that ban.
"Sir, she had seemed so sad and I just couldn't be a douchebag and let her stand in the gate and cry her eyes out." His voice came out small. Xavier could hear the nervousness in his voice. He already thought his job toast.
"Cry? She was crying?" His eyes were wide and his voice a notch high than he had expected, realizing he was more concerned about the woman that had left his house than his disobedient worker who couldn't do his job properly.
He dialed Maya's number, leaving her room in a hurry, and as he expected she didn't answer his phone.
He called one of his drivers, asking him to prepare one of the cars. He knew where she'll be already. The last thing he needed, was this causing a greater wedge than necessary.
He could even let her work with the bastard, not like she seemed to need his permission, but he'll try to pretend to be okay with her crazy choice if that'll make her happy, damn it was better she dumped his ass than cry.
Besides, what harm could Tyler possibly cause if he causes it all by himself, by making her hate him even before he could say a word?
He closed his eyes, dialing her number yet again. It was switched off. He yelled, throwing his phone on his bed.
He needed to muster courage and tell her the story that have haunted him for years. What had happened to Diane, Tyler's sister, and the reason why Tyler was bent on ruining his life before Tyler did.
She needed to hear his side of the story, she needed to decide if she'll walk away, right in front of him than publicly.
He needed to tell her that he was the reason why Diane was dead. It had been his fault. All his fault. He was Diane's murderer.
He shivered, he knew he didn't have the balls to have that conversation yet, and worst, watch her leave him.
