Chapter 14: Chapter 14
Maya stared at Xavier displeased.
He has been acting so cold and like a total Jerk towards her since she came to work, and she was beginning to get uncomfortable knowing it has everything to do with last night.
He had replaced her phone which he had destroyed last night with the latest available iPhone model. She had stubbornly refused to take it initially, but he had coldly told her it wasn't a request or a present she could turn down or accept but an order.
He also referred to her with her full name and spoke to her in monosyllables, and he did that only when necessary.
She groaned on the verge of losing it, almost about to tell him to his face that yesterday night happened and Yes it was a mistake but it did happen so he should get over it and stop being a dick.
She couldn't stand his cold demeanor towards her and missed his snarky comebacks and frustrating tasks already.
Her new phone rang, the sound startling her. She rolled her eyes already aware of who was calling since it was only him who knew her new number since he had destroyed everything along with her phone last night.
She looked up from her computer system and starred at him exasperatedly since she could see him from her cubicle owing to the translucent glass.
His cold piercing glare made her quickly stand up, knocking some files off her table but she didn't notice as his scary glare sent undercurrent chills into her body.
With her hands shaking, she picked his call.
"Miss Luke I need you in my office now!" he instructed, and then hung up before she could say a word. Not like she had had anything to say since she was a trembling mess owing to how frightening he sounded.
Her legs were shaking and her hands clammy and sweaty as she gingerly made her way towards his office.
She knocked twice nervously even though the door was wide open.
"Come in" he impatiently commanded.
She entered almost wobbling, looking anywhere but at him.
"What is this?" He asked pointing at his cup of coffee while eying it like it was poison.
Her head was slightly bowed, as she studied the tile intently like it was the first time she was noticing it, unaware of his questioning glare.
"Maya!" He shouted pissed off.
She shuddered just realizing she had spaced out as usual.
"What is this?" He asked again menacingly.
"Your coffee sir." She replied. Her hands clasped like a dutiful housewife.
He stood up, a malicious smile tugging the corner of his lips.
"Did I or did I not tell you that I prefer my coffee black with no sugar and milk?" he asked his voice slightly raised.
Her eyes flew open as realization dawned on her.
"No wonder my coffee tasted like crap." She whispered underneath her breath.
He glared at her and she sighed apologetically.
"Sorry, sir it was a mistake." She whispered remorse on her facial expression.
He gazed indifferently at her.
"In my world, sorry doesn't cut it, Maya. I don't tolerate incompetent idiots. I don't pay you to say sorry." he snapped.
She waited for the pooling effect she usually has in between her legs whenever her name rolls out of his mouth in his rich husky baritone but there was nothing, neither did she experience any butterfly or backflips.
Instead, all she felt was rage. Anger that a few weeks ago, she was ready to give herself to this bipolar jerk.
She bit the inside of her lips to stop herself from crying. He was just a dumb insensitive arrogant heir who was way out of her league, so why does his word affect her so much? She thought.
She defiantly stared back at him, all traces of fear gone as she couldn't help but feel irritated at his disrespectful tone, the tone she has witnessed him used on most of the staff like they were nothing but sand underneath his pair of Italian shoes.
"You know, maybe you need a bit of sugar .... " She starred at him mockingly for a split second then added Sir smirking. "Because you are so lonely and bitter, so yes maybe we should start with your coffee and with loads of luck, maybe just maybe it might spread." She fired back agitated.
He stared at her completely shocked, not expecting her to raise her voice to him and certainly not to tell him something so cruel yet completely true.
It was a foreign feeling as he watched her disrespect him, disregarding his status completely not hesitating to tell him her mind, giving it to him raw and hot, and forcing him to take a serving.
She gasped shocked at how fast his reflexes were as he already had her pinned against the glass wall. She shivered at her skin contact with the cold surface as she was wearing a gown that left her bareback on display.
He was so close to her, hovering in front of her as he glared at her while she returned the favor not faltering.
"And who are you to tell me that?" He asked in a surprisingly calm voice, But Maya knew better than trust the calmness, It was the calm before the storm she thought her heart thumping so fast she thought it might just jump out of her body.
"You think you are damn special right?" He asked with a sneer.
She just stared back at him without saying a word.
He raised his hand and without thinking she flinched and instinctively placed her hand protectively in front of her face, with her eyes tightly closed as her childhood memories like a scene from a horror movie flashed through her memory one by one.
She waited with her breath hitched but nothing happened, No slap, No cursing, No tugging of her hair repeatedly till she beg for mercy.
She cautiously opened her eyes. Xavier was looking at her with shock. His rage which was hot as an inferno dissipated as he took a step away from her.
"I will never hurt you, Maya." He whispered hurt.

"I might not be your dad Maya but I will never hurt you" he promised.
She smiled at him her eyes so full of trust.
"I know." She whispered naively.
"And you can call me Edward. I will never compel you to call me Dad until you are ready."
Her smile widened even more.

Before she could stop herself she ran out of his office, heading straight for the elevator. She quickly typed in Jasmine's office floor with her hands shaky and sweaty.
She was a sobbing mess as she walked into the terrazzo lobby.
Without knocking, she barged into her office.
She frowned looking up from the file she was busy with.
"I know I am awesome and you miss me, but I get paid to do work here, you know that thing all adults hate but have to do anyway ...."
She paused noticing her swollen red upset face and her trembling lips.
"Oh, Maya." She whispered standing up as she closed the distance between them enveloping her in a hug already knowing that it must be one of her childhood episodes while Maya freely cried in her arms.

Xavier angrily hits his hand against his sturdy table not believing that he had scared Maya because he had allowed his annoyance at her to overpower him.
He sighed remembering how she had run out of his office last night, regret in her eyes, and then a few minutes later he saw her from his window hugging someone who works for him since they were in the parking lot assigned only for staff, and his car was there because he had taken her home after that.
He threw some files off the table cursing under his breath, angry that he only saw the silhouette of the man who was bold enough to put his hands on his kitten.
He remembered how she had tightly held him like she wanted him to make her forget the moment or rather the "mistake" they both had just shared he thought in rage.
Then remembering the way she had reacted when he lifted his hand to touch her face soften his expression.
The startling look of fear in her eyes was oddly familiar to him, as it hurt him to think of the possibilities of who had put that fear in her, as her reaction seem to be borne out of habit and God so help the person that as much as lift a finger to what was his, he thought as he wished for his or her sake that it was just nothing and his suspicions were unfounded.
"But this instinct of mine has also been behind many of my multi-billion awarding contracts." He whispered as he grabbed his phone dialing a number.
On the second ring, the other line picked the call.
"James," he said immediately.
"Maya Luke is your new subject." He stated abruptly ending the call.
It was time to unlock the mystery that was Maya... His kitten he thought to himself.
And sitting down for the first time in years he sipped a cup of coffee with loads of sugar and cream in it.
Guess everyone needs a little bit of sugar he thought.
