Chapter 40: Chapter 40

I woke up in an unfamiliar room, but I am very sure that I am not in the year 1950 anymore. I am back, my heart is breaking. I removed the nasal cannula and tried to get up. I examined my body. I have bruised all over. My chest part is covered by a bandage, my head, and I have a minor fracture at my right foot. I am in an exclusive hospital room.

The door opened and my mother entered. Her eyes are swollen, and she has dark circles. She was shocked when her eyes drifted in my direction.

"Aliyah!" She was very thrilled, and she started crying. "I'll call the doctor. Thank God, you are awake already." She hugged me.

"Mama!" I started crying too. I don't know why.

"It's okay, you are okay now." She caressed my back.

I left Henry, I will never see him again, that is the reason why my heart is breaking. I supposed to feel at home right now, but why I am feeling lost?

"W-What happened to me, Mama?" I asked, still in tears.

"You don't remember? You have engaged in an accident four days ago, you almost died. I thought I will lose you forever, but you came back after the doctor revived you for the third time. You were deeply wounded on the chest, the glass almost hit your heart. They successfully removed it but you were unconscious for three days. The doctor said you were in comatose and they can't tell when you will wake up, I prayed, Aliyah! I prayed a lot, I'm so glad that the Lord gave me back to me," she said then hugged me again.

The door opened again, and my father entered this time. "Aliyah, you are awake!"

He went near me, the kissed my forehead. "I will call the doctor. She needs to be check." He went out again.

"Mama, where is grandpa?" I asked my mother, she sighed then looked at me with sad eyes.

"Your grandpa... Passed away already." She cried again.

I was shocked and my mouth fell. "W-When? How?" I still managed to ask even though my heart is almost exploding.

"He died yesterday, don't worry, he died healthily. But since there is a pandemic, we chose to create him instead and placed him in our house. He died peacefully and happy." She was crying yet smiling.

"Grandpa, he didn't wait for me. He didn't wait for me to wake up," I said then wiped my tears. "He's with grandma right now, he is happy now." I looked at my mother.

Her forehead creased. "What are you talking about, Aliyah?" My mother looked confused.

"Grandpa is already in heaven together with grandma," I answered.

She sighed then touched my forehead. "The doctor said that you didn't have any head injury, they should check you more," she said.

"I am completely fine, Mama. You are acting so weird." I am confused now too.

"Your grandma is still alive; she is still strong as me. Why are you saying that she is already in heaven?" she said?

What? Is? My? Mother? Saying? My grandma is still alive? Grandma Cristel is still here? How did that happen? Did I change something in past? What the heck?!

"Where is she?" I asked.

"She is in our house together with your aunt Maricel," she answered.

"Who is aunt Maricel?" I am confused as hell. What is happening?

My mother sighed. "They should really check your skull and brain, you have amnesia! You forgot your aunt Maricel, the only daughter of your grandma and grandpa, the only sibling of your Papa."

Papa is their only child as far as I know before I was transported in 1950. Something really changed, I changed something in past!

The door opened and papa entered together with a doctor and a nurse. I almost fell on my bed when I saw the doctor, then I realized that this is Doctor Dizon, not my Lieutenant Henry Dizon. They looked really the same, the hair, the nose, almost a carbon copy of each other but they are not the same...

He smiled at me; my heart suddenly filled with sadness. I missed him already.

"How are you, Aliyah?" he asked, even the voice.

"Doc, you should check her head. She seems confused and some of her memories are lost! You said that her head was completely fine," my mother said. I can't talk.

"Is that so? I checked her thoroughly. She only has a little bruise on the face, we put her on CT Scan, we found nothing. Maybe it was from shock caused by the accident. But I will check more to confirm it." He looked at me then smiled.

"Who are you?" I asked out of nowhere.

"I am Dr. Henry Salazar Dizon III, your surgeon. I almost lost you," he answered.

Almost... Lost me...

He cleared his throat then started to examine me. He checks every corner of my body. I was just watching him, he is very different from my Henry. Yes, they have the same name, same features, but he is no one compared to my Lieutenant.

I smiled. "Who is your grandfather?"

He stopped then looked at me. "He is Lieutenant Henry Dizon I, a great man of his time." He smiled.

I feel relieved. The last time before my accident, he was describing him as a cruel person but now, he is a great man in the eyes of his grandchild. He did really fulfill his promise.

"Is he a good man?" I asked again.

He nodded. "He is not only a good man, but he is also a good husband, a loving father, and a great grandfather. He is awesome in every way. I really adore him; he is my role model in all aspects. Too bad that he didn't see me wearing a stethoscope." He let out a deep breath. "You are okay now; we just need to wait to heal that deep wound on your chest. It almost killed you, if it bleeds nonstop, call me immediately," he said then smiled.

I nodded. "Thank you for saving me."

"That's my duty, Aliyah. To save life is my one and only duty, I shouldn't fail in that aspect." He left the room after talking to my parents.

Even the way he embraced his duty and responsibility is the same as his grandfather.

You raised him just right, Henry. I am proud of you, both of you saved my life. I owe you a lot. How can I say my gratitude if you are already gone? I missed you already.

"Aliyah, you should rest more. Your grandmother will visit you tomorrow. She will be happy that you are already awake. When she heard that you got in a serious accident, your grandparents are both cried. When they found out that you are severely wounded, they started to get really worried. Your father and I almost lost our minds, we thought that you are going to die." My mother cried again.

"The important thing is she's already awake and perfectly fine. Darling, don't cry, our daughter is alive." My Papa hugged my mother.

"Thank you for praying for me. I thought I am going to die too. I love you. I missed you so much," I said then hugged them.

I should be thankful, right? I came back safely, but my heart feels so empty. It feels like a part of me is missing. I am not whole anymore. I was wounded forever.
