Chapter 114: Chapter 114
"Mom, why don’t I go get Grandma Zhao to help us watch Xiao Feng and Xiao Cai for the day? Wouldn’t it be such a pity if you missed Uncle’s wedding?" Bai Ruxue was up before dawn. After the sisters had breakfast, everyone was headed to Grandma’s house, leaving Wang Cuihua alone to care for the kids, so she suggested this.
"But what if the children get hungry and need milk?" Wang Cuihua really wanted to go too, but she worried the kids would bawl if hungry. Though it wouldn’t take all day, it would still be most of it.
"Don’t we still have some formula? They can drink formula just for today, it’ll be fine!" Bai Ruxue hurriedly fetched the formula. "Dad’s at work and can’t come back, so it wouldn’t be right if you don’t go too, Mom!"
"Alright! I’ll get ready to go with you now! Xiao Xue, you go get Grandma Zhao to help watch the kids for half of the day!" Wang Cuihua happily said as she put on her new clothes and the little leather shoes Bai Ruxue had bought for her. She didn’t wear snow boots because it wasn’t bone-deep cold at this time, she could wear the little leather shoes. Follow current novᴇls on Nove1Fire.net
"Wow... Mom, this checkered outfit suits you so well, and with those little shoes, you look years younger!" Bai Ruxia marveled, looking at her mother from all angles.
"You! Who did you take after to be so loud and exaggerated?" Wang Cuihua tapped Bai Ruxia’s forehead with a smile.
"Who knows who I take after! But I’m sure Little Chuan takes after me!" Bai Ruxia stuck her tongue out playfully.
"Bah, who takes after you! You take after me, more like!" Bai Ruchuan retorted indignantly.
"I’m your older sister! So you take after me!"
The two of them started bickering back and forth.
"Alright, you two! Even Dad doesn’t know who he takes after, so you two won’t figure out anything either!" Bai Rushan interjected coolly.
Bai Ruyun listened on the side and pondered deeply at Bai Rushan’s words.
She’d long wanted to ask her dad, who he really took after, since he looked neither like Grandma nor like Grandpa.
Second Uncle resembled their Grandpa, and Third Uncle took after Grandma, along with their aunts, but as for their dad, no one really knew who he took after.
"Come on, hurry up and get dressed. Didn’t your eldest sister tell you to bring those two kilos of candy? Hurry now! Once Grandma Zhao comes, we’ll leave!" Wang Cuihua cheerfully urged the kids along.
"Got it, Mom, I’m packing the candies now!" Bai Ruyun quickly retrieved the candies from the bed cabinet, packing them into a small bag made from leftover fabric scraps used for clothing.
Bai Ruxue forgot to mention this detail yesterday. It’d be odd to attend a wedding without candies, but her uncle returned from town without bringing any, so she reluctantly decided to bring the sweets she had saved for her younger siblings. Good thing they left early, they should still make it on time.
Soon after they’d prepared, Grandma Zhao and Aunt Sun Hong arrived.
"Wow... Cuihua, your outfit looks so stunning!" Aunt Sun Hong cried out excitedly upon entering and seeing Wang Cuihua.
"Really? I’ve never dressed before, feels a bit unnatural!" Wang Cuihua said with a broad smile on her face, patting her clothes.
It was her first time going out since confinement, and she was returning to her mother’s house after years, so her excitement was understandable.
"Beautiful, beautiful! Wear it in the future! Where did you buy these clothes? I’ll get one for myself too! They’re gorgeous!" Sun Hong exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with envy.
"Oh, these were from the fabric Xiao Yuan gifted Xiao Xue for her engagement. Xiao Yun made it for me," Wang Cuihua explained.
"What? Xiao Yun made it?" Sun Hong turned her gaze to Bai Ruyun.
"Aunt Sun Hong, bring some fabric over next time, and I’ll make one for you too!" Bai Ruyun smiled gently.
"Oh, thank you! That’s wonderful!" Sun Hong said joyfully.
No matter if she had the fabric or not, the children’s offer to make her clothes was enough to warm her heart!
"Alright, Sun Hong, let Cuihua head off quickly. They might still make it for the bridal escort!" Grandma Zhao, already on the bed, encouraged.
"Oh, my chatty mouth! Go on, go on! I’ll take good care of the kids for you!" Sun Hong waved them off.
Bai Ruxue had already explained about the formula, so there wasn’t much left to say. Thus, the mother and five children set out grandly for the third team.
Passing by the old house, apparently, Li Guihua came out to throw trash and quickly ran forward, asking all sorts of questions.
"Eldest sister-in-law, where are you all heading to? The whole family is out, who’s watching the kids?" She looked around, craning her neck curiously.
Bai Ruxue didn’t ride her bicycle today, choosing to walk with everyone instead.
"Going to my mother’s! Someone’s watching the kids," Wang Cuihua reassured her sister-in-law.
"Wow, eldest sister-in-law, you all dressed up fancy to visit your mother’s. Is there something special?" Li Guihua blocked their way, probing.
Because Wang Yongsheng’s wedding was sudden, except for those in the same village, many hadn’t heard the news.
Thus, early in the morning, seeing Wang Cuihua leading her five kids, all well-dressed, to her mother’s house, Li Guihua was understandably curious.
"Guihua, we’re attending my brother’s wedding! Get back and get busy if you’re free! We’re in a hurry!" Wang Cuihua was eager to be on her way, so she spoke directly.
"Attending a wedding? Your brother’s getting married? Who’d marry him? And it’s suddenly happening?" Li Guihua asked, her eyes widening in disbelief.
"Third Auntie, what do you mean by that? Who wouldn’t marry him? My uncle’s conditions aren’t bad at all! It’s quite annoying to hear you say that!" Bai Ruxue couldn’t hold back and retorted.
"Ah! Xiao Xue, my bad! I spoke wrongly! Off you go, off you go!" Li Guihua stepped aside.
Watching the mother and her children leave, Li Guihua turned around and rushed back inside.
"Mom... Mom, big news! Eldest sister-in-law’s brother is getting married!" She hadn’t even entered the house before shouting.
"What are you clamoring about? What does his marriage have to do with old me?" Grandma Bai had been in a bad mood these days, hearing her grandson talk of the delicious food over at the eldest son’s place each day, but unable to snatch some back for herself.
"Mom, you should’ve seen it! Eldest sister-in-law looked absolutely gorgeous! A checkered suit, little leather shoes, better dressed than city folks, and even the five kids in the eldest brother’s family were all dressed nice! Face all glowing with oil! Unlike our three, looking shabby with patched clothes! Their faces all greenish!" Li Guihua exaggerated, and Grandma Bai believed every word.
"And, Mom! They weren’t empty-handed either! Who knows what good stuff the eldest sister-in-law took to her mother’s!" Li Guihua saw her mother-in-law believed her and added more fuel to the fire.
"That old scoundrel’s daughter-in-law, pulling things to her mother’s family as soon as Daliang isn’t around! Didn’t she stop associating with them before? Now they see times are good, and Grandpa Wang and his wife come swarming back for benefits!" Grandma Bai fumed with anger.
She hadn’t even benefited yet, and instead lost the 200 kilos of filial piety grains, how could she not be angry?
"Exactly, Mom! Wang Yongsheng’s wife might have been funded by the eldest sister-in-law to marry him! Otherwise, why couldn’t he marry all these years, and suddenly he’s getting hitched?" Li Guihua pinpointed it right, though the money was actually lent by Bai Ruxue to Wang Yongsheng, it was practically the same as Wang Cuihua giving it.
