Chapter 31: Chapter 31
"My queen, you have to hurry right now. The king needs you" That statement sent me into overdrive. I'd been queen for barely three months but everything had been going just fine until now. I was just arriving from a meeting with other queens of the four lands owing to the fact that I'm the queen of all queens. I'd only been gone for three days. As soon as I'd stepped into the palace, Lylla, my personal maid had approached me immediately with a look of urgency in her forest green eyes. Naturally, I was overcome with worry and concern for my husband. I hurried upstairs to his chamber only to find Luke by my husband's bedside. He was trying to restrain my husband and things didn't look too good. I hurried to his side, my gaze sweeping over my husband's chiseled chest and defined abs which was covered with sweat. His handsome face was etched with pain and he didn't look well. I noticed the bruises around his wrists, my heart breaking when I realized that he'd been tied up earlier. His long dark hair was soaked with sweat as well and he was thrashing around against Luke's grip. "Dae! Calm down! Stop it, you're going to hurt yourself!" I cried as I tried to get him to stop thrashing around but it was like he was totally out of it."What happened?" I asked, Luke as I joined him to hold down my husband. "The night you left, he started to have headaches. At first, he told me it wasn't that serious but then, it worsened by the next day. He couldn't get out of bed and he started to become very feverish. I called the healers but he only got worse. His eyes were pitch black. Both of them. He accidentally burnt one of the guards and he seems to be worsening even more. The elders think we should lock him up or something"
My heart started to beat faster. "He's not stable right now-"
"Leave us" I said and he frowned."What? I can't do that. He doesn't even recognize you right now. He might hurt you" "I don't care"
"I'm not-"
"Fine. Tie up his hands, that'll do"Luke pursed his lips. He still didn't look happy. He obviously didn't like the idea of leaving me alone with my husband especially when he was going all psycho on everyone."I'll be fine, Luke. Just go"Luke regarded me for a moment and let out a long sigh. "Be careful, your highness. If anything happens, just call for me" I nodded and watched him leave. I turned back to look at my husband who was still struggling against the ropes.I cupped the side of his face and kissed his cheek."My love, come back to me" I whispered. "Please"When he still didn't show any signs of recognition, I started to stroke his hair and hum slowly. His body started to relax. I kissed his lips."Come back to me, please" He stopped struggling and he opened his eyes slowly. His eyes were back to being gold rimmed. His eyes were bloodshot and tired looking. "Devon" he breathed, gazing at me. Tears filled my eyes as I loosed the ropes binding his wrists."I-I don't know what happened. I blacked out. I can't continue like this" he said, weakly.
"We will find a way. We always do" I said and he sighed, wrapping his arms around me."I hope so" he whispered, pressing a kiss to my jaw."I love you" I whispered. "Love you more" he breathed and buried his face in the crook of my neck. My breath caught in my throat when I felt the wetness on my neck. He was crying, his body trembling in my hold. "I'm sorry" he whispered. "Don't be. None of this is your fault""I feel so torn"
"I'm right here, Dae. I'm always going to be here for you. Always"
"Always" he sighed, taking a deep breath.
