Chapter 23: Chapter 23

DEVON

"You're a druid?" I said, trying to process what I'd just heard. "What? Hard to believe?" Veronica purred, a look of amusement on her cat-like features. "Then you know a lot about the twin moons?" Theo said to Veronica who shrugged as she rubbed her long fingernails together."I know something about the twin moons but it's not going to be enough""Liam said he saw you with a book -" Veronica rolled her eyes."Of course it would be Liam. I'm afraid I no longer have the book here with me""What do you mean?" I asked."Amyra sent one of her minions to steal the book from me. It's gone"My heart sank, dread creeping down my spine."What do you know about the twin moons?" Theo asked."The twin moons was discovered by Ivagon, decades ago. It was said that the blood moon is the only thing that can lead to the appearance of the twin moons. The twin moons can be called upon, it just doesn't appear on its own" Veronica said, rising to her feet. She grabbed a pen and a book from the cabinet before going back to her seat. She quietly drew a weird shape that consist of two crescents facing each other. They were curved slightly into each other and the first one was upside down, compared to the other. It formed a whole circle. "This is the symbol of the twin moons. It is formed when the blood moon divides into two and curves into each other. One part of the moon becomes a pure silver, the other part remains crimson. When this happens, the crimson part of the moon feeds on the power of the silver beast in order to become silver like it's twin. At the same time, the crimson part releases a part of it's energy to the red Wolf, unleashing it's full potential. It disrupts the bonding of the two parts of the silver beast and gives you guys the advantage" Veronica says, running a hand through her hair. "So, how do we 'call' the twin moons?" I asked.Veronica exhaled sharply."In order to call the twin moons, you need the mirror of mirrors" she said and I frowned."What's that?"

"It's an ancient locket that holds so much power. With it, several realms can be opened. Anyone who uses the mirror of mirrors is at risk of getting his or her soul trapped in the locket" Theo said with a worried look on his face."Since it is a very dangerous weapon, it was hidden somewhere safe. The problem is, I don't know where it is. Only Ivagon would know" "Isn't there another way to defeat the silver beast without using the twin moons?" I asked."I'm afraid not" Veronica said. "What do we do now?" I said."The only way is to make use of a necromancer" she said and Theo's heated gaze met mine.

***************************

' I have necromancy, I can help' I said to Theo, using the mindlink. He heaved a sigh, running a hand through his dark hair.

'Are you sure about this?' he asked, reluctantly.

'Of course. I have the ability, I might as well make good use of it ' I said.

'I really don't think this is a good idea. What if you unconsciously begin to attract other ghosts and spirits?' he said through the mindlink.

' I won't. Even if that happens we'll find a way. We always do. Right now, we need to focus on eliminating the threat '

'Uurgh- fine ' Theo groaned. I grinned and turned to look at Veronica who was looking very confused."Why are you two looking at each other like that?" She asked."We were discussing" I said and her frown deepened. "In your minds?" She pressed further."That's right"

"Okay, what did you two come up with then?"

"We have a necromancer" I said and she narrowed her eyes. "It's very rare to find a real necromancer. Do I know the person? Who is it?" she asked.I gave her a smug look."Me"

Surprise briefly crossed her features. "You?" She said, bursting into laughter. When I didn't bat an eyelash, her laughter ceased."Wait, you're serious" she said, eyes wide."I am a necromancer" I said."Okay, then. I guess we better begin the summoning" The summoning. I shivered.

This is the first time I'll be using my abilities to summon a dead person and I'm really nervous."I really don't know how to summon a dead person" I said, grimacing at myself."You don't have to worry about that. There's two major ways to summon a ghost. You can go to the place where he or she was buried. Since Ivagon died decades ago in the fae kingdom, I'm sure trying to find his grave will waste a lot of time. So, that's out of the question. The other way is by using something that belonged to the person in question" Veronica explained as she led us into her basement. There were candles of different sizes and colors there. The basement had an eerie feeling to it. I wrapped my arms around myself, a shudder running through me unconsciously. Theo placed a hand on my shoulder, assuring me that everything would be fine."We don't have anything that he owned" he said to Veronica who was moving about, lighting scented candles."Oh but I do" she said, taking out a rusted black - more like brown- box. She blew off the dust on the surface of the box before unlocking it and lifting the lid. She took out a blue locket which was made of sapphire."This was passed from Ivagon all the way to me. It represents our nature as druids" She said and handed it to me carefully. When I covered it with my other hand, I could feel it pulsating --Like it was alive. I could feel the power within the pendant."Help me with the pentagram?" She said to Theo who sighed and rolled the sleeves of his blue shirt to his elbows before joining her. When the pentagram was complete, Veronica opened an old brown book and moved closer to me."There. That's the spell you're to use. Remember you have to relax while doing this" She said, pointing at the bottom right corner of a page where four sentences were scrawled."Okay" I said, taking a deep breath. Theo gave me a smile that could best be interpreted as ' You can do this'. I nodded, giving him a smile. Veronica grabbed a scalpel and made a cut on her palm. As soon as it began to bleed, she tightened her injured hand into a fist, squeezing her blood within the pentagram. "Are you ready?" She asked and I nodded."I'm ready" I said, taking a deep breath. My gaze met Theo's encouraging gaze briefly. Then I focused on the spell in the book I was holding, repeating the words over and over in my mind until it was tattooed in my mind. I closed my eyes, feeling the energy in the room.

"From Bone and dust, Stone and Blood,I summon you, Ivagon Baryza of the Tyr clan; from the four winds of the earth. I summon your spirit!"

I could feel the drop in the temperature and the chilly breeze that had taken over the basement. I felt powerful. My voice went higher and higher until there was a loud clap of thunder outside. "Your highness" an unfamiliar, thick baritone voice said. I opened my eyes and standing in the pentagram was a tall, white haired man with warm blue eyes and a kind smile."Are you Ivagon Baryza?" I asked, completely awestruck."Of course, your highness. You called for me" he said, still smiling."Yes, yes I did""I presume you summoned me to ask for my help""Yes. We want to know if you can tell us more about the twin moons" I said.He tilted his head, his gaze resting on Theo who looked just as awed as I felt."Your majesty, forgive me for not acknowledging your presence" Theo snapped out of his daze and shook his head."You don't have to apologise" he said. Ivagon grinned."You are just as good looking and as powerful as I foretold" he said and turned to look at Veronica."My lovely great great granddaughter, Veronica. It's good to meet you" he said and Veronica smiled."It's good to see you too" she said. "We want to know more about the twin moons" she said and he stroked his beard thoughtfully."The twin moons is a weapon. It was conjured by a lightbearer who had the abilities of a witch. She was never the same even after the twin moon served it's purpose. The twin moons can only be conjured by using the mirror of mirrors. It happens when the light reflects off the surface of the mirror of mirrors, directly to the blood moon. I presume you know what happens next" Ivagon said."Yes, we know that. Where do we find the mirror of mirrors?" I asked. Ivagon shook his head with a mournful look on his face."It will destroy the soul of whosoever uses it. I can't expose you to it"

"We have no choice, Ivagon. We will loose and the whole universe will be at risk if we don't do something" Theo said. "Fine, I'll tell you. Yaran, the lightbearer who first conjured the twin moons hid the mirror of mirrors in the Night Court. It is hidden in the lake. But, I want you to reconsider your decision. Using the mirror of mirrors is dangerous""We just can't let the enemy win" Theo said with a pensive look on his handsome face."Isn't there a way we can use the mirror of mirrors without endangering our souls?" I asked."Yes, there is. But the solution is almost impossible" Ivagon said."What is it?Ivagon started to fade away."The person who uses the mirror of mirrors must have an anchor to his or her soul. If the anchor is not strong enough, the two souls will be trapped in the mirror of mirrors for eternity...."Ivagon vanished.Even though we'd just gotten new dreadful informations, I was nowhere as terrified as Theo. Theo embraced me and kissed the top of my head. "We'll find a way" he breathed. Something was definitely bothering him and I knew it wasn't just about the danger of using the mirror of mirrors."Theo, what's wrong?" I whispered, brushing his hair away from his face."Remember I told you that the fae kingdom is made up of four lands... I didn't mention the night court because something happened. The night court was usually filled with violence and pure evil. Centuries before I was born, the night court was at war with the Winter Court, that is Grymlok. It was a massacre. Every member of the night court was completely decimated, not one person was spared. No one has gone to the Night Court for so long and it is said that dark spirits and creatures now roam the place" he paused, exhaling slowly. "I know you want to come with me to get the mirror of mirrors but I can't allow you do that. It's not safe" he said and I frowned."Theo, you're not safe there either. I want to come with you. Two heads are better than one" I said."Devon, you don't understand. I can't. I just can't let you come with me"Veronica smirked."Couples fight, how cute to watch" she said, rolling her eyes. We stepped out of the basement with my mind still reeling. There was absolutely no way I was going to let Theo go alone on a suicide mission. That's not going to happen. Not under my watch. The door opened and someone walked in-- a tall dark haired male with bright green eyes like Veronica. The resemblance was clear."Ronnie? You didn't tell me you were expecting visitors today" he said, taking off his black boots.Veronica rolled her eyes again. "I didn't know I was supposed to tell you that, Ric. This is Theo, and that is Devon, his girlfriend" she said, releasing her hair from it's ponytail."I'm Alaric but you can call me Ric. It's nice to meet you too. Veronica doesn't have normal friends. Her friends are mostly psychopaths" he said, exchanging handshakes with Theo who eyed him warily.
