Chapter 1103: Chapter 1103
The plan was to visit palace fortresses the next day, one of the many popular tourist destinations in Granada. On their way fell a big bookstore that made her eyes subtly sparkle. She pointed towards it.
"Is it okay if we stop by there for sometime?"
"Of course. You don’t need to ask," he said while still trying to shed that image of the naughty handcuff from his mind. He only hoped that Alix didn’t catch anything suspicious.
Stepping inside, the faint scent of books and the sound of the pages flipping came across her that brought a sense of comfort in her expression. She felt right at home. No matter what part of the world it was, books always calmed her.
She walked across the many aisles, lightly grazing her fingertips against the books’ hardbound. She almost drooled at the sight of literary fiction books, one of her favorite genres to read. She came to an abrupt stop and turned. She slightly tilted her head seeing Jin standing behind her quite diligently.
"You know you can hop away to explore too, right?" she blinked.
He slightly scratched his neck. "Yes but..."
I want to be closer to you.
But he wondered if she would find him sticking close to her too bothersome.
Ugh does she want some privacy? Am I coming in the way of it?
"Y-Yeah I was just about to take a turn right here..."
"Children’s books section?"
His brow slightly twitched. "...I was thinking... if I could buy some books...for the kids. Yeah! That’s what I was thinking!"
She changed her direction as well and stepped into the kids aisle. There were a good amount of story books both in Spanish and English translated. She wasn’t sure if Aang or Ailun would be interested in hearing stories but she imagined Yina and Taio at least a little bit excited. Then there were Baihu and Junxi too who could also be told these stories. ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ꜰʀᴏᴍ novel⸺fire.net
Behind her, Jin beamed. He wasn’t expecting her to join him so he happily hopped behind her. Alix picked a thin book that held an illustration of a wolf and a rabbit. She had read many such stories but it seemed was a new publication.
"How about we take this one? Yina would really like it I think," Alix glanced at him. "Right, Mr. Rabbit?"
The corner of his mouth twitched because imagining Alix as the wolf reminded him of the naughty handcuff again and then his thoughts trailed off to something not so very innocent that involved her using those said handcuffs.
"It is just a sight seeing trip!!"
Alix raised her brow, slightly taken aback. "You seem to really like proving that point."
Shit, I said that out loud. It’s all Grandpa’s fault! Why did he have to stuff that piece of junk in my luggage!
"O-Of course I know that..." he wiped his invisible sweat.
"One of the reasons why Yina feels you are more of a rabbit."
What did I do? Do I look too innocent?
Jin randomly picked another book out of the shelf and asked, "How about this?"
"The princess’s wish to the fairy. Looks interesting."
He grinned. "I think Yina will like it."
"And compare you to the princess and me to the fairy?" She blinked twice.
"Why are you hellbent on comparing me to...delicate characters?"
"It’s your own niece. Besides, aren’t you a helpless princess anyway? As the fairy, I had to see to it that you were safely taken back home," she arched her brow, amused.
"Th-That was just one time I got drunk! I can hold my liquor!"
"Really, I can!" He flared his nostrils.
Suddenly, Jin got a bad feeling. He didn’t want to look like the kind of a man Alix would need to take care of like a child. Wouldn’t she just feel she was more like his mother than his wife?
Selecting their pick of books, Alix walked away towards another aisle when her gaze fell on a book displayed in the New Arrivals section. She slowly approached and picked the book as she read the title.
The title of the book didn’t rattle her as much as the author did.
Alix stared at the name for a long time unblinkingly. If her book had made it to the shelves here, then it meant that Yating did an excellent job with the sales and marketing. She had heard from Ai that Guiying’s new book was coming up soon. Even Ai didn’t know the premise of the story, but she did know that it had taken almost seven years for Guiying to write this story that was very close to her heart.
It must be about ’her’...
The split personality that resided in Guiying and had helped her in the tough times like an unbreakable wall. Alix didn’t know what happened but meeting with Guiying after waking up from her coma gave Alix a sense that ’she’ was probably gone. ’She’ wasn’t needed anymore with Zixin by her side.
Alix slowly opened the book and after carefully reading a couple of first pages, she stiffened. The tips of her fingers pressed harder on the bind as she realized that the lost sister could very well be...
She slowly took a seat at the reading kiosk, her gaze flipping through the letters and words inked on the page that expressed the main character’s feelings - the main character who Alix took to be none other than Guiying herself. Her hand trembled as she held the book and so did her heart as she continued reading the story.
Guiying left the end of the story at hope.
Hope that she will meet her lost sister again.
Hope that she will find her lost sister again.
Hope that she will get to hug her lost sister again and cry in her warm embrace.
Alix didn’t know what to do as her gaze was fixed at those last words. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to tell Guiying about the real ’Ren Alix.’ She thought she didn’t need to, assuming that Guiying had moved on. She had her own happy family now so why drag her back to the past?
But the book reminded her yet again that she hadn’t forgotten about Zhan Yahui. Guiying regularly cleaned her office at Dream High and now she published a book about her.
She is really such a fool...Why still get tangled up in somebody like me?
When Alix looked up, she found Jin quietly and patiently staring at her. She blinked twice and exhaled a sharp gasp.
"Shit, what’s the time?"
It was well past afternoon now which made her realize there was no point in going to the sightseeing destination so late.
Damn it! I ended up reading the whole book!
"You waited this whole time?" She was genuinely taken aback. "Why didn’t you say anything? I can get pretty lost in books if not checked..." she guiltily averted her eyes.
Jin softly held her chin and slowly turned her face back towards him.
"You looked very engrossed so I didn’t want to disturb you. As long as you are doing what makes you happy, I’m happy too."
She stared into his black irises that shone with warmth. Her trembling fingers slightly balled themselves into her palm.
"...I just wasted a day. You should be more angry."
He slightly tilted his head with a smile. "Where did we waste our day? You enjoyed reading, I enjoyed watching you. You are my wife so I’m allowed to be a pervert, right?"
