Chapter 48: Chapter 48

I shouldn't have done that to him after what we did. The mark of his kiss would always be an impression for me, how he kissed me was full of passion and had a deeper meaning.

I didn't want to hurt him but, when I remembered how he didn't push Moorah and let her kiss him, my heart cracked. My happy feelings were shattered, and everything was so erratic.

After that incident, I couldn't stop crying. Haytham was always there for me, but he also couldn't do much when it all happened.

My intention to hurt Barra in return had materialized, then why do I keep crying and regretting it? Besides, I already knew that our relationship would never have a beautiful ending.

Sooner or later he would find out the truth about me.

Every time I thought about it all, my fear had risen to higher levels.

The shadow of his disappointed face always haunting me. I was terrorized by a painful reality.

"My men informed me that Barra will be there tonight." Haytham was standing beside me. I didn't realize it was almost half an hour since I was standing beside the swimming pool.

"Is he coming?" As far as I knew, his relationship with Mr. Salvatore had not improved since the betrayal.

"Yes, we're all on a path of peace now." He answered without looking at me again but, now focused on the swimming pool where the water was exposed to the sun.

I was so impatient, I really couldn't wait to meet him, but my fear was big too. I thought so much that I ended up tantrums with myself.

"Should I go with you there?" I asked full of questions to myself and also the man next to me.

He smiled, making his dimples appear, "Of course. Follow your heart, I'm sure he still stupidly loves you."

I hit his shoulder, "He's not stupid."

"Who said he was stupid?"

"You just now." I stuck my tongue at him irritatedly then left him alone.

"Maybe he is." He smirked, "Did you know that Mr. Salvatore has gone bankrupt? "

"Oh my God, is it for real?" I grinned, "That means we have to celebrate it."

"I never thought you would be happy about this." He chuckled, "The Ainsley family has bankrupt him somehow."

"Barra?" I asked happily. Mr. Salvatore had a lot of bad effects on all of us. It was time to make peace and stop every betrayal by eradicating the traitor.

"Yup, I don't think Niki's wedding this time will be attended by him. Mr. Salvatore has also been charged with his human-trafficking case." Haytham put on his devil face again.

"And it must be because of you?" I raised an eyebrow.

"You can say so." He shrugged, "Don't forget tonight." He left after said that.

I returned to my room to prepare for the night. Spirit burned within me, I wouldnt let this night slip off my fingers easily.

Later that night, I got ready for the wedding. I put on pretty thick make-up with red lips. I tied my hair high and wore a gold necklace. When I wore the dress, I found it difficult to close the zipper behind the dress. Inevitably I asked for his help.

He raised the zipper slowly before his hand stroked my back gently. I moaned a little of the tickled, "Haytham, I ---" He brought my body closer to him as his hands snaking around my waist, making us not apart.

His breath was right on my neck, making it difficult for me to move, "What you tryna say?" He asked in a seductive way. "I need to pee." I said, let go of his hands.

He groaned before running through his hand to his hair. He seemed to be arguing with himself. Actually I was not sure he actually let me go for Barra. He still wanted me.

And, whenever he did that, all I had in mind was Barra. I wanted Barra by my side.

I miss him like crazy.

Even in the car, I didn't dare to glance at him. Without seeing him I knew his gaze was fixed on me.

When we got there, he told me that all the invited guests were basically related to the mafia.

Because, Sean, Niki's husband was also involved with the mafia.

They weren't ordinary people. I became more careful after he told me. I held his hand tightly, didn't want to be separated, especially with people like this.

I saw a woman wearing a tight purple dress with her hand holding a drink. I kept watching her until I realized who she was. Moorah!

She was here. What was she doing here? She laughed at the words of a man beside her. I couldn't clearly see the man's face because it was always blocked by people passing by.

I groaned in frustration. "Are you okay?" Haytham whispered beside me.

"Yeah."

"If you're uncomfortable here, we can get some fresh air outside." He said gently.

"Come on." I said with my eyes lit up.

The night air was a little chilly, but cooler than inside. Haytham let me wore his suit, making me warmer. I sat on the edge of the park, while he stood beside me, folding sleeves.

"Thank you." I smiled at him, he smiled back. I hadn't seen Haytham smile like that in a long time. His smile always reminded me of our past.

"I also don't really like being in there." He spoke still looking at me.

"Why?"

"You know why I joined mafia." He looked full of regret for what had happened.

"You can't change the past, but you have a chance to change the future." His eyes sparkled in the dark night when I said that words.

He chuckled, "Those words were like Janielle's."

"You love her." I said quickly.

"I do." I had no more words but to looked at him meaningfully while saying it. "I really do."

"And you just tell her." I smiled.

"I wish she could love me too." His eyes staring at mine deeply. I started to lose my balance when I stuttered.

He had repeatedly confessed his feelings directly.

"Let's go inside." He grabbed my wrist, I just followed him behind, but his steps stopped causing me to bump into his body.

"Why did you stop?" I asked while gently stroking my forehead. However, I glared at the reason he had stopped walking.

Barra was right in front of me with Moorah and Jake beside him. His eyes had fixed on my grip with Haytham. And I focused on Moorah who was by his side.

"Fancy seeing you here."

"Let go of her hand."

"If I don't want to, what you gonna do about it?" Haytham's grip tightened.

"I said let go." Barra was getting angry, while Jake took out his gun at once which made me gasp. Then, aimed it right on Haytham's face.

"You want to shoot me? Then shoot." He said without the slightest fear. I looked at him and thought he was crazy.

"No, please don't." I begged Jake for Haytham's safety.

Barra looked at me like I was a stranger after I begged him not to hurt Haytham.

"Remember when she saved me from being shot? And, the fact that she chose me over you?"

I gasped at Haytham's words. What the hell he's trying to say?

Finally I understood Haytham's aim to piss off Barra. For God's sake, I just realized that Moorah was still with him. This was the perfect time to show him how hurt I was too.

I didn't have the courage to saw Barra's face. He had looked away from me.

"I chose him because he was there when I need someone the most while you were busy kissing that bitch." My heart was broken, with tears dripping.

Moorah sent me her sharper gaze.

"And here you are with her, making me more and more convinced of my choice."

I didn't expect what Barra would do next, until he walked over to Haytham and threw his first punch, making him fell down.

"I'll show you my game." Barra said in his sadistic tone.

Jake ran to me then grabbed my hand. "I'll take you to a safer place." I followed him and closed my ears which started ringing.

I didn't like violence. The sound of gunshot floating in the air made my legs weak and unabled to walking. I chose to take off my high heels and came back again. I couldn't put Barra in danger. Likewise with Haytham. I just couldn't let both of them die.

"No." I screamed when they had their guns pointed at each other. Haytham's face was filled with flowing blood, while Barra's face was already slightly bruised on the cheeks and the tip of his lips.

"Don't stop me, cutie pie."

"Don't you dare call her that."

I didn't care anymore and stood right between the two pointing guns.

"Jazzlin!" Barra was demanding while Haytham said, "Move, cutie pie."

"I beg you don't do this, I beg you two." I closed my ears which were ringing louder. My head ached so my vision was blurry.

"Jazzlin?" I saw Barra catching me until the sound of another gunshot made Moorah screaming.

I wasn't completely unconscious, because I was shocked at the last shot. "Everything is fine." Barra whispered while carrying me in bridal style. I looked at him, and feeling the warmness in his arms.
