Chapter 65: Chapter 65
"I'm terribly sorry about what happened last night." Grant bowed deeply to Max and Cecilia, who already on the Guild's Office.
Hugo pretends to look busy by writing something on the paper. Meanwhile, his ears are focusing on that conversation.
"It's okay, Uncle. I am just… I mean, Max and I are a bit shocked… about it. But, that's okay. Both of you and Kaleela are adults. So, yeah--,"
Max cut her word with cold voice, "What she's trying to say is, if you want to do something like that, please use your own room. It's not supposed to be seen in public."
"I understand, Mister Max. And, I thought this is your, Niece." He said while gave a familiar red box.
Cecilia smiled awkwardly, "Actually, it was for Miss Kaleela. Last night, I want to give it to her. But, she looks busy... so, well. Oh, anyway, where is she? Why didn't she come here?"
"Too bad. She didn't feel good and want to take some rest."
Max snapped and rolled his eyes, "Yeah, it is understandable. You should take her to the doctor. Perhaps, she broke her ribs or even backbones."
Cecilia elbowed and whispered to him, "Why did you become so rude, Max?"
Grant looks awkward before he turns his gaze to his niece." Anyway, I got a report from Mary. That Baron's daughter "borrow" your dress."
"How shameful! After what she did to you, she still has a gut to doing this!" Max tightens his grip.
In the contrary, Cecilia look calm. "It's okay. Let her be. All we have to do is to stick to our original plan. How about the ranch's development?"
Grant nodded once, "It's almost done. Everybody are satisfied with the result. Although, they know that some magic power playing a big role in that construction. Just like you said, people in the island start thinking positively toward magic."
"It's great! If thing goes smoothly, we can launch in the right time." She answered with sparkling eyes. "And how about the brochure, Max?"
"It's already published on several newspapers on the nearest town of the island. All we have to do is wait until the launching date."
Grant added. "Baron Ambrose is ready for everything, Niece. He already planned to throw a welcoming party at the launched date. He sent a letter that said you don't have to worry about the preparation."
"Oh, my. I mean, have a dependable allies is great! Thank you for your hardwork, Guys. So, what only left is about exposing the culprit on the Emperor's banquet. Honestly, It's hard to believe."
Suddenly, Hugo stood up and whispering something to Max. Cecilia flinched when she noticed that Max, who sit beside her, shifted uncomfortably.
An uneasy feeling creeping in her heart and Cecilia certain that the face behind his mask lost his calmness.
"Are you sure about this?" Max asked and a muscle in his jaw flinched.
"Yes, Bo--, I mean, Max. It comes from our most trusted source. The evidence is still on the way. Please come again tomorrow."
Max's jaw clenched. "How troublesome."
"Is there something wrong?" She asked with a visibly worried face.
"Nothing. Just a small problem." He said with a faint smile. However, Cecilia know he was lying. She can feel his heart which full of storm and thunder.
Is this real? She asked herself. Or perhaps, it's just my imagination.
"Niece, what is this?" Grant asked when he notices that small brown paper bag on the table between them. A sign, of the most popular flower shop in Hagrav, stamped on it.ake his curiosity raised.
"Oh, this is the seed of golden flower. My father told me something about this, but I forgot."
Grant scratching his chin, "Hmm, my brother isn't a fan of flower. When will you attend that party?"
"Less than three weeks."
"Hmm, it's enough. I will cultivate this plants on the South Island. So, you can bring some to him. Will you give me permission?"
Cecilia narrowed her brows, "It's so weird to heard you asking it. Well, do what you want, Uncle. Did Mary mention something about my father's letter?"
"No." He shrugged.
"It's weird. My father always replying my letter as soon as possible. Besides, I need to confirm about something. Especially, the election."
Hugo and Max traded a glance before the servant nodded and going back to his desk.
Grant, who didn't know what happen, frowned. "What election?"
"An election to choose the crown princess. I already stepped down from it, but my father said that the Emperor want to reconsider it. I wonder what really happened."
Grant sighed heavily." Ah, I really hate that brat. I mean the crown prince. Something seems off about that boy. If only he got a half of the second prince's wisdom, then--," he stopped his word as if he remembered something.
Max watches him silently while crossing his arm. Grant gulped, a sweat broke in his forehead.
"The second prince? Why?" Cecilia asked. Wondering what is he trying to say.
"Ah, haha. No, I mean that's nothing. Ha-ha." Grant answer nervously. Then he bowed, "I think I... should go now. You know, to plant this. Ha-ha. Then, I bid you farewell, Mister Max, Chili and Hugo, too. See you."
When he disappeared, Cecilia seem confused." What is his problem?"
"I wonder too." He shrugged before asking her with a mischievous smile. "Then, Chili. Talk about the second prince. What do you think about him?"
"How should I know? I never met His Highness in person."
"Really? But, you must be heard one or two things about him, right?"
She shook her head." Rumor is a very unreliable source, Max. We can't judge people based from it. To know the person better, we should hold a proper conversation."
"Hmm, from what I heard, he is a handsome man. Probably, he looks better than your crush."
Cecilia smiled gently. "I'm not gonna lie, Max. I like handsome people. But, it doesn't mean that physical look is everything. What more important is on the inside.
I'd rather have proper conversation with an ordinary man with interesting personality than an airhead handsome man."
"For example?"
Cecilia pointed him with her right index finger. "You. Even I never saw your face, but you make me comfortable."
Max blinked twice before he laughed so hard. How come she said something cheesy like that with that emotionless face? He asked himself.
Cecilia blushed a little and hoping that Max didn't notice it. "It's not funny. I just want to be honest. Besides, there is something I need to tell you."
"What?" He asked while wiping the tears in his mask.
"My father told me to come back to Lancia's household. Baron Ambrose will be the only one who manage the island, under my supervision."
Max's eyes locked on her. Suddenly, his face became serious. "Does it mean..."
"Yes." She nodded and let out a heavy sigh. "Our contract will be terminated. Right after the Emperor's banquet."
