Chapter 276: Chapter 276

Wade Lynch scrutinized Eugene Lowell with a thoughtful look when he turned towards Quinn Lockwood.

The other crew members hurriedly stepped forward to inquire, but Quinn shut them down.

"Get back to work, all of you. I need to figure out who wants me dead." Drawing the sword and pressing it against Eugene’s neck, Quinn’s eyes narrowed dangerously.

"Spill it. Who sent you?" Her gaze was like that of a true bloodthirsty assassin.

Eugene, terrified, stiffened and took several steps back, ending up at the cliff’s edge.

"I, I didn’t. I just slipped, really. No one sent me, honestly." His legs began to tremble, and Eugene shook his head, panic-stricken.

The blade was clearly sharp, and he feared Quinn might injure him in a fit of rage or ’accidentally’ send him tumbling from the cliff.

"Alright, I just wanted to see the effect. Seems like shooting with such emotions would give great results." Quinn sheathed the sword, looking at Eugene with a half-smile, but a chilling intent lay beneath.

"Right, photographer?" She turned and raised her eyebrows, questioning.

"Ah... very good, perfect." The photographer was momentarily stunned but quickly agreed.

Though the photographer didn’t understand what was happening, he knew Quinn had to be placated. Such a dangerous incident could lead to her breaking the contract, and the company would have to pay a hefty penalty.

"Um, Savannah, the sun’s setting, and the light here isn’t fit for shooting anymore. How about we rest and shoot again in the morning?" The photographer glanced at the sky and then at the script, asking tentatively.

"Sure, everything as you say." Quinn nodded politely to the photographer.

Though there had been some unpleasantness, it had nothing to do with the others, so there was no need to be hostile towards them.

"The van’s at the entrance of the mountain, everyone follow me to get the tents and luggage." The person in charge clapped her hands, signaling the crew to follow her.

Quinn handed her purple jacket to her assistant and joined them.

"Hey, wait for me." Seeing Quinn walk away, Wade hurriedly took a few quick steps to catch up.

"Aren’t you leaving?" Quinn glanced sideways at him, her tone no longer as guarded or cold.

After all, the man had just saved her. No matter how much she disliked him, Quinn knew the importance of gratitude. ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ novel⟡fire.net

"Leave? I couldn’t find my way back if I tried. And if I leave, who’ll protect you if someone tries to harm you again?" Wade casually put his hands in his pockets, smiling as he looked Quinn over.

He really couldn’t figure out what this woman was planning. If anyone believed she wasn’t going to investigate Eugene, they’d be naive.

"You’re wondering why I let it slide earlier, right?" Quinn slightly lowered her eyes, her refined face showing no sign of emotion.

"It’s simple. I want to hit the bullseye in one shot."

"Asking now wouldn’t yield anything. Better to wait for them to become restless and expose themselves." The corners of her lips lifted ever so slightly. Her eyes were as clear and bright as they were deadly.

Wade said nothing, but his gaze on Quinn became increasingly intriguing.

Quinn’s current demeanor struck him as frightening.

As everyone retrieved their tents and luggage, the person in charge hurriedly stopped Quinn from helping.

"Savannah, you just rest. We’ll handle this. You’ve worked hard today."

"Oh? You’re too kind. I’m part of the crew now, so I should help out too." Quinn tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear, her voice resonant and clear, devoid of the haughtiness of a starlet.

Skillfully setting up the frame, Quinn chatted and laughed with the crew members nearby.

Wade watched from the side, then joined in to help her.

"You’re pretty handy, not like someone who hasn’t done this before." Helping Quinn set up the tent, Wade noted her adeptness with the ropes and wires and asked.

Quinn paused, lowered her eyes briefly, and replied, "I’ve set up tents before on reality shows, so I’m familiar with it."

"I saw that show. You were really fast at setting up tents. Nice survival skills, Ms. Carrot." Wade teased, watching Quinn’s cheeks flush slightly from exertion.

"Pass me the pegs, thanks." She gestured to some pegs on the side, giving Wade a cool glance.

For some reason, Quinn felt there was an underlying meaning in Wade’s words.

Could he know something?

Impossible. They’d only known each other for a month, with little interaction. No matter how clever he was, he couldn’t possibly know about her rebirth.

Wade, after handing the pegs to Quinn, watched her silently for a long time. He was sure Quinn was different now.

What secret did she hold within her? Why had she done those things to ruin her reputation before?

After setting up the tents, the assistant handed out vegetarian bento boxes to everyone. Wade, despite being an extra, serendipitously received a meal as there was an extra prepared.

After a simple meal, Quinn and the others used a large water bucket to wash up and then retired to their tents.

At night, the mountain winds were strong, and the temperature was low, so no one would leave the tents unless necessary.

"Wendy, I’m going to the restroom. I’ll be back soon." Quinn wrapped up in her jacket and told another crew member in the tent.

As soon as she stepped out, Quinn couldn’t help but shiver.

Walking briskly towards the temporary restroom set up by the crew, Quinn faintly heard voices.

Her brows furrowed slightly; who was out so late? Also coming to use the restroom?

She paused, deciding to wait until the person left before going in herself.

After all, it was a male voice, and even with the safety of the crew, the situation was awkward when she needed to use the restroom.

"Although the plan failed, I didn’t reveal anything, and she didn’t suspect a thing."

"Yes, yes, it was my oversight. I’m sorry, I’m sorry."

The voice sounded familiar. Quinn quietly moved closer to listen and her expression turned serious.
