Chapter 268: Chapter 268
Seeing Quinn Lockwood being so polite yet distant with him, Elias Sinclair felt quite uncomfortable. However, noticing the slight timidity in her demeanor, he managed to suppress a trace of anger.
He really had no way with her.
He pulled out the small hand buried under the covers and gently wiped it with a towel, and said plainly, "I never allow anyone to bully my woman."
Her heart skipped a beat, and at this moment, Quinn felt her heartbeat completely out of rhythm.
It wasn’t until Elias put down the towel and got up to help her up that Quinn snapped back to reality.
"I... I can do it myself." Seeing Elias leaning down to pick her up, Quinn quickly propped herself up with her hands.
"Don’t move." Ignoring Quinn’s refusal, the man encircled her body with his arms and helped her sit up.
The cream-colored lamplight spilled over the two of them. Although the man in the grey suit exuded a chill aura, he was gently feeding the woman in the hospital bed soup.
Quinn Lockwood thought Elias would leave once he finished feeding her, but contrary to her expectations, he sat on the sofa, elegantly and skillfully brewing tea, not showing any intention of leaving.
Maybe he was just resting for a bit after a meal before heading off.
Thinking this, Quinn leaned back on the bed, browsing videos while waiting for Elias to leave.
But what happened next completely took Quinn by surprise.
The door of the hospital room was gently knocked.
Before Quinn could say anything, Elias’s cool voice was heard, "Come in."
Kevin walked in, holding a black organizing box and a few sizeable bags in his hands. Despite being drenched in sweat, he flashed a huge smile at Quinn on the bed.
"Just put it down. Notify me immediately if anything happens at the company." Elias turned the jade tea cup on the table and said casually.
"Yes, sir, please rest assured." Kevin bowed to Elias, then carefully retreated. Before leaving the doorway, he flashed Quinn another bright smile.
Looking at the pile of files and a laptop in the organizing box on the table, Quinn was dumbfounded.
"What’s... going on with this?" Blinking uncomfortably, Quinn put down her phone and asked.
"Working." Filling the tea cup, Elias looked up at the woman on the bed with a puzzled face.
"Aren’t you going to the office? How can you work... here?" Her face already knotted in confusion, Quinn glanced again at the contents of the organizing box.
Hearing her question, Elias subtly furrowed his brows, then shifted his posture and took out a folder from the box to go through it carefully.
"Even if I were bedridden like you and couldn’t move, I could still manage company affairs."
"I’ve noticed your ability to review documents is not bad. You could also help me with some work."
"Consider it your pay while I’m taking care of you."
Hearing this, Quinn nearly coughed up blood. Indeed, this guy was a big businessman, never doing a losing deal.
"Who needs your care? I don’t want to look at those astronomical figures!" Quinn rolled her eyes at Elias and pouted, ignoring him.
He was so busy; probably he wouldn’t stay long anyway.
Leaning back on the sofa, Elias looked at the annoyed woman, with a faint smile touching his lips.
As both of them were engrossed in their work, urgent footsteps were heard from outside. Quinn straightened up, looking toward the door, seeing Mr. and Mrs. Lowell carrying a bunch of stuff as they entered. ᴛʜɪs ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ ɪs ᴜᴘᴅᴀᴛᴇ ʙʏ novel·fıre·net
"Savannah, how could you be so careless?" Mrs. Lowell hurriedly approached, holding Quinn’s hand, her face full of concern.
"I had told you to reveal our precious one’s identity! And now look at this, bullied by some audacious third-rate starlet. I can’t swallow this!" Mrs. Lowell glared at Mr. Lowell, expressing her frustration.
"I won’t let them bully Savannah . I’ll have them blacklisted right away." Mr. Lowell’s gaze landed on his daughter’s casted leg, his eyes flashing with anger.
Upon hearing about the incident, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell packed up to rush to the hospital but received a call from Kevin, saying that Elias had arranged for him to pick them up.
During the ride, Kevin explained the situation leading to Quinn’s injury. Mr. Lowell was nearly ready to summon Tiffany Young for a confrontation.
It wasn’t Elias who told Kevin to inform Mr. and Mrs. Lowell, but since the incident already made headlines, hiding it was impossible.
"Dad, don’t be angry. Elias has already dealt with it. Tiffany Young has publicly apologized. Plus, she only just started her career; she must be immature, and she’s been punished already. Let’s not pursue it further."
Quinn straightened up, quickly trying to calm Mr. Lowell.
Although Tiffany indeed went too far, Quinn had genuinely cared for her before. It wasn’t necessary to be so ruthless.
Besides, she’s been punished already; that should be enough.
"I’ve instructed the agency to deal with her." Elias placed his document down, got up, and looked at Mr. Lowell.
"Elias handles things efficiently. Knowing this, I am at ease." Mr. Lowell’s tense expression gradually relaxed after hearing this.
"Elias, why stand up? Get on with your work." Noticing Elias standing, Mr. Lowell glanced at the table with files, a computer, and dinnerware beside the bed, then couldn’t help but smirk, winking at Mrs. Lowell.
"Elias, how is Savannah’s leg? Is it serious?" Mrs. Lowell nodded to Mr. Lowell, then turned to ask Elias.
"The ankle is severely bruised, with a few scrapes on the knee but nothing major. I’ve already coordinated with the agency and the film crew; Savannah can rest well during this period."
Elias’s handsome face was calm as ever, revealing no emotion, but his voice carried much more patience than before, instead of his typical cold distance.
Mr. and Mrs. Lowell exchanged glances, eyes full of delight, then said, "Elias, your father and I are busy with the shareholder meeting, so we can’t come often. Savannah, it’ll be up to you."
"It’s my duty." Elias looked up, his gaze falling tenderly on the astonished Quinn Lockwood on the hospital bed.
If not for their many years of extraordinary composure in business, Mr. and Mrs. Lowell might’ve burst into laughter right on the spot.
