Chapter 122: Chapter 122
When Elias Sinclair went upstairs with the first aid kit, he stood at the doorway for a long time without entering, slightly furrowing his brow as if deep in thought.
At that moment, the door opened.
Quinn Lockwood was startled by Elias standing at the door.
The man glanced at her faintly, without speaking.
Quinn stammered, "I saw you hadn’t come back for a while and thought you couldn’t find the first aid kit, so I wanted to come down and check." Elias said nothing and walked straight inside.
"I can handle it myself, there’s no need to trouble you." Seeing the man holding disinfectant and bandages, Quinn quickly spoke up to stop him.
Elias looked at the woman in front of him, his tone serious and indisputable, "Sit down."
Quinn resigned immediately, uttering a small "oh" and could only obediently comply.
The man’s hands, with their prominent knuckles, lifted slowly and lowered, and surprisingly he gently started bandaging her. The cool fingers slightly brushed her arm, giving a bit of a ticklish feeling.
Quinn studied the man before her; it was her first time observing him at such a close distance.
The fine strands of hair on his forehead faintly hid his sharply arched eyebrows, his deep black eyes resembled a starry midnight sky under the glow of the lights, and his warm breath faintly caressed Quinn’s arm. At this moment, her heart seemed to skip a beat.
"Be more careful next time." Elias put away the first aid kit, reverting to his aloof and domineering demeanor.
"Thank you." Quinn gave him a grateful smile; she truly meant it from the bottom of her heart.
But the man opposite merely glanced at her coldly, without acknowledging her at all.
Quinn awkwardly twitched the corners of her mouth; she couldn’t believe she felt Elias was just gentle and attentive; it must have been her illusion, yes, definitely an illusion.
Elias frowned at the meal box on the table, pulled out his phone, and made a call: "The set meal I ordered earlier, send another one over."
Hearing this, Quinn felt a bit puzzled, then followed his gaze to see the still intact packaging box from the Succulent restaurant on the table. Tʜe source of this ᴄontent ɪs novel★fire.net
"Did you just order this? Why order another one, wasn’t it enough for you?" Quinn tilted her head at Elias.
"Sea bream loses its flavor after more than fifteen minutes." The man coldly replied, then sat aside and picked up the book on the table.
"Is it really necessary... such a waste." Quinn pouted and muttered softly, then sneaked a glance at Elias to check if he’d heard, and seeing he hadn’t, felt relieved.
Soon, the food arrived, and Quinn, who had been hungry for most of the day, had a stomach that was already growling.
Elias didn’t say a word to her throughout, while Quinn was only focused on savoring the delicious sea bream and didn’t feel uncomfortable at all.
"Are you... sleeping in the guest room?" Quinn tentatively asked, seeing Elias still there.
The man continued reading without looking up, finally replying coolly after a while, "I never sleep in guest rooms."
"Then are you... sleeping on the floor?" Quinn pinched her nose nervously, unsure what to do.
"What did you say?" Elias looked at her, his gaze suddenly cold.
Quinn forced a smile, remembering the last time Elias came, it was her who ended up sleeping on the floor. Quickly she straightened up and, somewhat conceding, said, "I’ll sleep on the floor, I’ll sleep on the floor."
In truth, she internally pouted, thinking what kind of world this was if not for appreciating Elias taking care of her, she wouldn’t let him have the bed.
Looks like she’ll have to be a bit unfair to herself again...
Hearing her sigh, Elias raised his eyes, glanced at her, and spoke calmly, "No need, I’ll sleep on the sofa."
Quinn looked at him in surprise, but didn’t say anything further.
The two didn’t speak again; Quinn put on headphones and watched videos, yawning with drowsiness. Seeing Elias still reading on the sofa, she smacked her lips but didn’t dare say anything.
When Elias closed his book and stood up, he saw Quinn fast asleep, leaning against a pillow.
His mouth curved slightly upwards, and he went over to gently adjust her position and covered her with a blanket.
At night, moonlight filtered through the thin curtains, softly illuminating the room, casting a gentle glow on the floor.
This seemed to be the first time the two got along so harmoniously.
The next morning, when Quinn woke up, Elias was already nowhere to be seen. She noticed the exquisitely made gray pajamas on the sofa, then looked up at the dreamcatcher by the window, and slowly leaned back against the bed.
Remembering Elias’ gentle and meticulous demeanor from the night before, her expression turned complicated. So last night wasn’t a dream after all.
While deep in thought, the urgent ringing of a phone interrupted her contemplation.
"Hello, Savannah, how are you feeling? Is Elias with you?" came Mr. Lowell’s concerned voice from the other end.
"Dad, I’m fine. Elias has gone back to the company, I’ll head to the hospital to see you shortly." Quinn said as she began to get up and prepare, ignoring her injuries.
But Mr. Lowell’s voice stopped her, "You rest well at home. I’m here with your brother and your mother." Then the call ended.
Feeling restless at home, Quinn tried walking a few steps and found her leg wasn’t hurting much now, so she couldn’t stay seated any longer and tidied up to head to the hospital.
"You’re really a stubborn child." Mr. Lowell rolled his eyes to show his anger, but looking at Quinn’s arm his eyes were full of concern. He was extremely worried when he heard she was injured, and almost fainted hearing Mrs. Lowell describe the scene.
Quinn withdrew her arm behind her, not wanting her father to feel bad, and quickly pouted and acted coyly, "I came to switch with Mom and brother, and I missed you. Don’t you want me to keep you company, Dad?"
Mr. Lowell, seeing her pitiful expression, smiled helplessly. He was truly gratified by his daughter’s sensibility, recalling her childhood when she’d cuddle up and act cute, his eyes filled with warmth as he motioned for her to sit beside him.
"Mom, you should go home and rest. Dad has Savannah and me here, so you don’t have to worry." Cameron Grant had intended to spend more time with Mr. Lowell, and with Quinn’s arrival, he was even less inclined to leave.
"You two are such good kids..." Mrs. Lowell said, patting Cameron and Quinn’s hands.
"Savannah, are you hungry? I bought some delicious snacks." Cameron waved the cute packaged box in front of her.
He had been keeping up with Quinn’s social media activities and noticed her sharing posts from the Sweet confectionery shop, so he checked it out and found comments she left under a specific pastry. Delighted, he seized the chance to buy it for her.
"I’ve wanted to try these pastries from this shop for so long, thank you, brother." Quinn happily accepted the box, staring at the packaging for a while. These were the pastries she’d been craving for ages, remembering that Sweet confectionery had even opened locally; she hesitated slightly in opening the box.
Could it be that brother bought them specifically for her, or did he bring them back during a business trip...
