Chapter 548: Chapter 548
At today’s party, Chuchu was indeed an important guest. Not to mention that the Old Master of the Kong family had something to ask Old Sir Zhong for, just based on the relationship between Chuchu’s husband Jiang Kechu and Kong Zifeng, Kong Zifeng couldn’t let Chuchu leave feeling slighted, or who knows what Jiang Kechu might do to settle the score.
So seeing that Chuchu was about to leave, Kong Zifeng hurriedly smiled apologetically to persuade her to stay.
In Beijing’s second-generation circle, Kong Zifeng wasn’t just some privileged playboy; he was a genuine influential figure. Everyone gave Kong Zifeng a lot of face, and those without much background were even more eager to curry favor with him. Now seeing him being so humble towards Chuchu, everyone reevaluated her once more.
The woman who had just stood up for Wei Feng actually wasn’t very confident either. Seeing the situation turn, she didn’t dare stay to mock Chuchu any longer and quickly slipped back into the crowd when no one was looking.
Some knew Chuchu was Old Sir Zhong’s granddaughter, but since Old Sir Zhong had retired long ago and rarely appeared, they couldn’t figure out where Chuchu’s confidence came from or why Kong Zifeng was so polite to her.
Regardless, because of Kong Zifeng’s actions, everyone dared not show blatant malice towards Chuchu anymore.
Chuchu chatted a bit more with Kong Zifeng and his fiancée before leaving to find Mai Qiqi to hang out, waiting for Jiang Kechu to show up so they could go home after taking care of business.
With a glass of champagne in one hand, Mai Qiqi laughed heartily, "That cracked me up. How did you figure out that woman was a nouveau riche? That’s her Achilles’ heel."
Chuchu raised an eyebrow and said, "First, someone who impulsively jumps out to be used as a pawn must not have much upbringing, and clearly hasn’t read much; second, she couldn’t even recognize brocade, so her family must lack depth. So I just said something casually."
Mai Qiqi chuckled, "Her dad used to sell goods in the market when he was young. He’s had some good luck these years and somehow hooked up with the XX family, became their white glove, and made quite a bit. That’s how he got his start. Just what you called a nouveau riche."
The two sat in a corner chatting, watching from afar as decked-out women put on pretenses and assessing the handsome men, all while waiting for Jiang Kechu to show up.
"I’m a bit hungry. I’ll go get some fruit," Mai Qiqi said, setting down her empty glass.
Chuchu remembered the pastries Kong Zifeng had sent the other day and quickly said to Mai Qiqi, "His pastries are pretty good. Grab a few while you’re at it."
So Mai Qiqi went to get some food. Chuchu felt a bit bored for a moment until a flamboyant young man walked over.
Seeing him heading straight for her, Chuchu blinked and stared directly at him, mentally sneering—could he be gay? He was wearing eyeliner, his face was so pale, he must have put on powder, and his lips were bright red and shiny, probably with lipstick.
The man came to her and threw a coquettish glance at Chuchu, who quickly closed her eyes, feeling like her eyes hurt.
"What’s the meaning of closing your eyes so tightly? Are you disdainful of me?" the man accused Chuchu, shaking his shoulders and tilting his neck.
Chuchu opened her eyes and said innocently, "I like masculine men. That flirty glance of yours made me uncomfortable."
The man, hearing this, rolled his eyes at her, pointed a delicate finger at her outfit, and asked:
"I want to know, whose design is the outfit you’re wearing?"
Chuchu only saw his gleaming chin move flirtatiously as he spoke.
"Why should I tell you just because you’re asking?" Chuchu replied.
The man sneered and looked down on Chuchu, sighing with disdain and lifting his proud chin:
"Looks like you don’t recognize me. How ignorant. I’m Dan Joe, a leading figure among Chinese designers, with my own brand in the fashion capital of NY in the U.S. Surely you’ve heard of J.QIAO, right?"
Chuchu was certainly familiar with the brand. A few years ago, while studying in the U.S., she loved the brand’s clothing designs. Unfortunately, she didn’t buy many pieces due to a pregnancy body change. Earlier this year, J.QIAO was introduced to the domestic market, with a flagship store opening in Beijing. She hadn’t expected it to be founded by this androgynous guy in front of her.
Chuchu gave him a smile, "Oh, I quite like the clothes you make."
Surprisingly, Dan Joe huffed arrogantly, saying bluntly, "There’s no woman who doesn’t like the clothes I make."
What an unlikable person. Chuchu shifted her gaze to the distance, wondering why Mai Qiqi hadn’t returned yet—could she have run into something?
Not receiving Chuchu’s admiration, but instead seeing her distractedly looking elsewhere, Dan Joe felt that the person in front of him was quite oblivious. He purposefully cleared his throat, humbling himself again to ask:
"I’m asking you again, whose design is the outfit you’re wearing? I’d like to get to know them."
Chuchu gave him a curious look and replied, "Why should I tell you? What’s in it for me?"
Once again stymied, Dan Joe took two deep breaths, reminding himself not to stoop to this woman’s level.
"If you tell me, I can give you three outfits of my design, any choice from the Beijing flagship store." Check latest chapters at 𝕟𝕠𝕧𝕖𝕝·𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖·𝕟𝕖𝕥
Chuchu snorted, ignoring him. It wasn’t like she couldn’t afford it; if she liked something, she could just buy it all.
Feeling snubbed once more, Dan Joe’s stubbornness ignited, and he promptly sat opposite Chuchu where Mai Qiqi had just been.
"Then what would make you tell me? I can give you two front-row tickets to this year’s NY haute couture runway show. Regular people can’t get these tickets."
"Which celebrity do you like? I can introduce you and set up a dinner."
Dan Joe felt like he was about to explode. Since becoming famous, he hadn’t experienced such disregard. Wherever he went, he was celebrated, yet today he encountered a tough nut that completely ignored him.
Could it be true, as those women just said, that the person in front of him was ill-mannered and ignorant? His scrutinizing gaze swept over Chuchu once more.
Her outfit was beautiful, and she was even more exquisite. The combination of person and clothing was simply perfect; anyone with slightly less charisma or presence wouldn’t showcase such a stunning effect.
If it weren’t for the unique design and bold cut of her outfit, indicating the creator must be very talented, he wouldn’t be enduring this nonsense here.
Apparently, he and this person were not destined to meet. Humph, not seeing them wouldn’t be his loss!
Dan Joe no longer wished to argue with Chuchu and got up to leave.
Seeing this flamboyant Dan Joe leaving, Chuchu chuckled inwardly. Ha, he actually had a temper.
"Hey, wait a minute," she called out.
