Chapter 547: Chapter 547
Upon receiving the invitation, Wei Feng pondered what outfit to wear to the party.
Now that she had finally gotten rid of that person and was single again, she must seize this opportunity to show her beauty to the men.
She sifted through her wardrobe thoroughly but couldn’t find any satisfying dress. After three days roaming the streets, and visiting every upscale clothing store and studio in Beijing, she finally found a fiery red gown.
The gown was made of silk fabric, luxurious and dazzling.
Its design was a strapless, floor-skimming style that perfectly revealed her collarbones and delicate shoulders, while the bottom was a classic wide hem with a ruffled edge, making the wearer seem like they were walking on a fiery red sunset from a distance.
The gown’s details employed traditional embroidery techniques, sketching out splendid patterns that added extra charm to the dress.
Upon seeing this gown, Wei Feng fell in love with it at first sight and purchased it at a steep price, cherishing it until she wore it out today.
Her pale skin enhanced by the red gown made her look queenly—a color she always loved.
Wei Feng gazed at herself in the mirror and lifted her chin high, pleased with her reflection.
One must have style, especially at important events. Those who rush and pant into the party are all superficial. Wei Feng checked the time and deliberately chose a neither too early nor too late moment to step out of the car.
She held her chin high as she elegantly entered the venue. However, the expected center of attention and astonishment from others didn’t occur. Though some admired her gown, their looks and praises seemed to lack something.
Unperturbed, she wore a gracious smile and greeted people along the way, eventually approaching the heart of the party where she saw the host Kong Zifeng and his commoner fiancée.
With a beaming smile, she prepared to greet Kong Zifeng. Although they weren’t very close, since she received the Kong family’s invitation, seizing the opportunity to foster relations was the plan—after all, no one ever complains about being too polite.
Just as she was a few steps away from Kong Zifeng, two people briskly moved ahead of her to greet him first.
Wei Feng first noticed the beautifully exquisite flower embroidery on their clothes—so beautiful! So delicate! Even a level higher than the embroidery on her own gown.
How had she never seen this dress before? Wei Feng felt a tinge of regret inside. No wonder those people weren’t as amazed by her earlier—it was because this dress had stolen the spotlight.
Wei Feng looked up from the gown to see who its wearer was and then, she was stunned, her expression freezing.
Wan Chu’er was conversing merrily with Kong Zifeng and his fiancée, clearly more than mere acquaintances.
Wei Feng’s hand tightened around her purse, her veins bulging. Wan Chu’er must have done this on purpose, rushing ahead seeing her approach.
Having already reached so close, turning back now would be too abrupt; she had no choice but to confront the situation head-on.
Wei Feng quickly composed her expression, relaxed her muscles, and marched forward with a smile.
"Young Master Kong looks in good spirits today," Wei Feng chimed in smilingly.
Kong Zifeng and Wan Chu’er both turned their heads towards her, as Kong Zifeng revealed a rather meaningful smile on his face, giving Wei Feng a lot of face as he said:
"Miss Wei, you really dazzle the eyes today." Then, with a mischievous glance, he looked towards Wan Chu’er and laughed: "Today you and Miss Wan are truly battling in beauty, becoming the brightest scenery at my party today. You’ve even overshadowed our little Xinxin."
The Xinxin he mentioned was his fiancée, who was not a traditionally stunning beauty, but rather a fresh and appealing young lady, exuding a wholesome and pure vibe.
As soon as he made this remark, it immediately attracted a lot of attention from the crowd. Only the host of the party dared to say this without fearing his fiancée’s anger.
However, Kong Zifeng’s fiancée just pouted at him and playfully scolded him for being annoying, which was quite generous of her.
The crowd’s attention turned even more towards Wan Chu’er and Wei Feng, and a buzz of discussion started. They all agreed that both Wan Chu’er and Wei Feng were equally breathtakingly beautiful, but Wan Chu’er’s luxurious dress suited her better thus giving her an edge. When Mai Qiqi heard this, she was delighted and thought she should tell Wan Chu’er so that she could revel in it secretly.
Wan Chu’er, however, glared at Kong Zifeng, her eyes threatening, signaling him not to make trouble. She thought to herself, whoever wants to compete with Wei Feng can go ahead, she would just trample Wei Feng underfoot.
Wei Feng also felt slightly awkward and uncomfortable, but she dared not glare at Kong Zifeng and instead coyly said: "Thank you for the compliment, Young Master Kong." Then she turned it around by genuinely complimenting Wan Chu’er: "Still, Chuchu looks more beautiful." After saying this, she felt pretty good about herself, thinking her generosity only made Wan Chu’er look petty.
What does it matter if the clothes are beautiful? If the person is petty, that’s truly fatal, she thought with an even brighter smile.
Wan Chu’er, unaware of Wei Feng’s thoughts, only found Wei Feng’s smile irritating and proudly said: "Of course, I am younger than you and my clothes look better, naturally you can’t compare to me."
The crowd was stunned, not expecting Wan Chu’er to be so bold, and they all held back their laughter, turning to see Wei Feng’s reaction.
The smile on Wei Feng’s face instantly stiffened, and she almost contorted her expression but held it back and quietly said, "I’m sorry" before quickly leaving the spot. Staying any longer would only make her a laughingstock, yet deep down she resented Wan Chu’er immensely.
A beauty in despair always evokes pity; those who were just enjoying the drama felt awkward all of a sudden, some thinking that Wan Chu’er was too oppressive, and their looks towards Wan Chu’er turned rather unfriendly.
Furthermore, since Wei Feng usually mingled among the famous ladies of Beijing and had many friends, immediately a lady spoke out: "What’s the use of being beautiful if one has a vicious mind and shallow insight? This dress must be from some small workshop, right? What cheap material, so garish."
But this was Kong Zifeng’s event, and seeing that Kong Zifeng was quite familiar with Wan Chu’er, she didn’t want to embarrass him, so after berating Wan Chu’er, she apologetically said to Kong Zifeng:
"Young Master Kong, sorry for disrupting the atmosphere of your party. I am just straightforward and can’t stand to see my friend being bullied, so if there was any rudeness, let me apologize to you first."
This way, by lowering her stance first, no one else could really say much afterward.
Kong Zifeng curled his lips in a mockingly smile, then turned to Wan Chu’er and said: "It seems you’ve really provoked the crowd."
Wan Chu’er sneered disdainfully and asked the woman still standing in front of her: "Is your family newly rich or something?"
The woman turned pale and choked out: "What do you mean?"
Seeing her so guilty, Wan Chu’er couldn’t help but laugh, thinking she had accidentally spoken the truth. Deciding that arguing was pointless, she ignored the woman and said to Kong Zifeng:
"This party is really boring. I’ve been bullied since I came, I’m leaving."
Hearing this, Kong Zifeng was taken aback and quickly grabbed her arm, no longer daring to enjoy the drama, and said with a forced smile: Follow current ɴᴏᴠᴇʟs on 𝙣𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙡·𝕗𝕚𝕣𝕖·𝔫𝔢𝔱
"Mistress, I was wrong. Don’t just leave after arriving, where would I put my face if you leave? Rest assured, if anyone dares to bully you again, I’ll have them thrown out. Besides, it was you who made someone leave in anger."
