Amber’s POV

I groaned, my body felt sore all over and I had a killer headache that made it almost to recall what exactly happened with me. I slowly opened my eyes, blinking a couple of times before studying my surrounding.

This’s not Alex’s house. That was the first thing that came to my mind. The first person that came into view was an unknown lady who looked like was keeping an eye on me.

“Y..you?”, I croaked.

“I’m Beta Nate’s mate. Emily.”, She said on which I furrowed my eyebrow and looked at her in confusion.

“What am I doing here?”, I asked her because it didn’t look like I was being kidnapped and everything was foggy and I could hardly remember anything about being landed in this place.

“I’m not sure but I think you shifted for the first time because nowadays werewolves outside packs, rarely do shift. And recalling the moment in which you came here, it looked like you immediately got into a fight after forceful shifting, which strained your body and mind. You have been unconscious for more than 40 hours.”

“Forceful shifting?”

“Yeah! It happens when the wolf is not ready to shift but because of some extreme level of emotions, especially pain, cause the wolf to shift before the actual time.”, She responded. “Right now, you’re in River moon pack and the Alpha of our pack is Elijah Davis.”, She added.

I tried to grab Emily’s words.

More than 40 hours was really a big-time period. And then I recalled her words regarding the forceful shift. I gasped when I remembered Alex’s condition.

“Al...Alex”, Immediately the girl name Emily lowered her head and avoided my gaze.

“You…you should rest, Ms. Lighthood. You will be feeling weak. It’s probably best if…”

“Emily”

I raised my voice and immediately the size of her eyes increased. But guess what! I don’t give a damn about that fact. I wanted to know where my mate was, right now.

Why my heart was pounding so loudly as if something was not right?

Why couldn’t I smell his scent?

Is he too far?

I had never felt this horrible void since I met Alex. Even though he used to stay away from us, I never felt an emptiness in my heart like I was feeling right now. I needed him.

“I will take you to him.”, She said and then guided me to another room. I was first shocked to see that they had kept Alex in a room, rather than in a hospital and when the door of that room opened, I gasped in shock.

Oh moon Goddess, Alex…

I quickly ran to his side and looked at him carefully, there was no wound on his entire body, not even a single one but he looked horribly pale!

My mate looked like he was in a deep sleep, not moving an inch, I couldn't even see his breathing. Machines were surrounding him, one helping him breathe, other linked to his arms, tubes going through and through.

It was really a surprise for him that he was still alive after that incident.

But then why couldn’t I feel him at all.

Tears were pouring down, and I breathed erratically, unable to forgive myself for his state.

“Ms. Lighthood, please calm down.”, I help a pair of hands on my shoulders. “I have mind-linked Alpha, he would be coming here anytime.”

“I can’t feel him at all even though he’s alive.”, I whispered, in shock.

I couldn't. My wolf was going nuts. Alex was right here in front of our eyes but still, I couldn’t feel him.

‘It generally happens when your mate is dead.’, I quickly shook my head at that thought. I kept staring at him. It made me feel like I was staring at an empty spot. Alex’s body was right in front of me but his soul was not there.

“When will he wake up?”

A long silence followed, making me look at Emily’s face. “I am asking when will my mate wake up?”

Once again, no answer. I tried to hold back my tears and removed her hand away from my shoulder.

“When?”, I screamed angrily. I couldn't take it. This heavy silence, this awkward and wary atmosphere.

“Ms. Lighthood.”, I heard a familiar voice and turned my head to face the owner of the voice. Mr. Davis was standing there with his beta behind him. I didn’t remember reaching here or any memories after those bastards broke Alex’s leg. “You’re using your Alpha Aura.”, He added, making me frown.

“I believe you didn’t do that knowingly. So, leave it.”, He said, more like talking with himself. “And about your question you asked with Emily, the doctors said your mate will…probably never wake up!”

“Is this some kind of joke?”, I asked that right back. “I can see that there are no injuries on his body then why will he not wake up?”

“There are no injuries on his body because we used a small amount of vampires blood to heal him.”

“Is this the reason my mate looks pale?”, I asked, controlling my anger.

“Yes!”

“You bastard!”, I almost jumped on him to kick his ass. How dare he used vampire blood to heal Alex, after knowing that was injurious for humans. But Nate came in between to save his Alpha. I picked him with my one single hand and threw him away.

He winced in pain, and Emily quickly rushed toward me.

“Ms. Lighthood, can you please calm down you wolf?”, Mr. Davis asked politely and stood in defense position. “Because I really don’t want you to lock in the bars for attacking my Beta for no reason.”

“You tried to kill our mate.”, I screamed.

“I didn’t. I just did what was important at that moment. And trust me, your mate was really in the bad shape when you brought him here. If we wouldn’t have used vampires' blood to heal his injuries then he would have been dead by now.”

I didn’t get it…I couldn’t process what he was saying. All I could think of was this horrible, insufferable sensation in my chest, ripping my heart apart. I closed my eyes, leaving my tears to flow out because I needed to break right now, I couldn’t contain it.

What was this nightmare I woke up into?

“I’m sorry, Nate.”, I apologized for hurting him in my anger. He just gave me a weak smile, knowing my state of mind.

“It’s okay.”

“Can you please leave us alone for a while?”, I asked on which Mr. Davis looked hesitant but finally they left from the room.

‘I’m sorry for not listening to you but I promise that I will never repeat my mistake.’, I apologized to my wolf who was damn too mad at me for bringing our mate into this situation. I took a seat on the edged the bed and caressed his cheek.

‘There are two ways in which we can save our mate.’, She responded on which somehow I felt a bit of hope.

‘What is it?’

‘Either convert him a vampire.’, I shook my head at that idea. Converting someone into a vampire was that easy, moreover, it would change the life of Alex, upside down.

‘Or?’

‘Or mark him.’, I furrowed my eyebrow at her suggestion. I mean both were the most important decision of anyone’s life and doing any of those procedures without consent was not right. But then, it was important for him to wake up from his deep sleep. His father was already in a coma, I didn’t want him to follow in his footsteps.

‘Are you sure, it will work?’

‘I’m not sure about the second one. Marking him won’t make him strong as a vampire but it will increase his immunities and it will connect him with us. In that way, we can search and find his soul back to his body if that has been lost somewhere then.’

I thought for a second. Weight the pros and cons of both the idea. I didn’t want to change Alex’s identity without his consent but then I was not even sure that marking him was a good idea. I meant, he now knew that I was his enemy and I didn’t know whether he want to spend all his life with me or not! I sighed, guessing I had no choice. I wanted him to come back to me.

‘Okay.’, I nodded and climbed into the bed. I straddled Alex’s sleeping body, making sure not to land on any of his tubes. I prayed silently to the Moon Goddess before leaning down and licked at the soft and smooth skin of his shoulder where I was going to mark him. After a minute, I finally bit him on his shoulder and then licked it for a while admiring my mark on his body.

I had never thought that I would have to my mate in this situation.

‘But never mind, planned things never happen in day-to-day life.’

I lifted my head from Alex’s chest when I heard a groan. I looked at Alex’s face as he slowly opened his eyes. I smiled at him but didn’t get any response from him in return instead I was surprised that he started glaring at me from the moment, he opened his eyes.

‘Mate is angry.’

After marking him as our mate, I could feel his feelings crystal clear. But I was not interested in knowing that he was angry with me because I could clearly see that in his eyes. I forwarded my hand to help him to sit but he stopped me showing me his hand and sat on the bed on his own as nothing happened to him at all.

I observed him looking at his own body. I was sure that he was finding it hard to believe that there were no injuries on his body but immediately he hissed. It seemed like I was too early to speak that he had no injuries on his body.

He left the bed and walked toward the mirror and turned around only to find a wound on his shoulder, which was obviously the mark of my teeth. It wouldn’t take the shape of my beautiful mark until he accept the mate bond.

“You bit me?”, He asked in shock and anger.

“I…It was important to mark you to increase your immunity and bring you back to life. And see it worked, just like my wolf suggested, after all, you are my mate”, I explained but his angry expression was not getting changed. I realized that he didn’t like what I did and he didn’t want to give a damn to my explanation. “I’m sorry.”, I whispered. “I know you might be hating me now for marking you without your consent. Also, you might be feeling disgusted by my presence as well after all you hated our kind all your life. So, I won’t trouble you more by staying here.”, I added the last word with a heavy heart and started to leave the room.

“And where do you think you will go?”, I heard his cold voice again. I didn’t turn my head to face him but I couldn’t handle his anger or his hatred for me.

“I….I…”

“And there I thought you werewolves never leave their mate.”, I heard his sarcastic taunt. I turned my head to face him. “What are you staring at? I have purchased a werewolf and there’s no way, I will let her go, at least not in this life.”

“You mean…”

“Just because I’m angry at you for putting your life at risk, that doesn’t mean you are allowed to walk out of my life.”, He said angrily on which I couldn't control myself and ran toward him only to hug him tightly.
