Chapter 98: Chapter 98
The music ended and before Jason could excuse himself, Rebecca came for him again.
He had no choice but to oblige her.
Jason looked Nancy's way, he could not help himself and saw that she was still dancing with that young man.
The guy was particularly young and handsome and looked gentlemanly.
Jason knew who he was. He was from a respectable family. His family had a great departmental store and we're wealthy.
'So Nancy is attracted to him now tight? Has she also told him that she is pregnant?' Jason thought to himself as he danced with Rebecca but kept stealing glances at Nancy.
'I'll bet his family will never allow their son to marry someone who was already pregnant for someone else but what if Alfred insisted?'
Jason felt he was overthinking the issue. But Nancy was looking exceptionally beautiful and her outfit, the outfit he had bought for her, he thought arrogantly to himself was the best in the party. It became her so we'll that her beauty was further enhanced.
The gown did not enhance her beauty, he amended but she made the gown look very beautiful and becoming.
'I have noticed you looking at Jason alot. Is there something going on between you two? Because you see he keeps looking this way as well as though he would like to murder me'. Alfred asked.
'Eh who, Jason? I mean Mr. Campbell? Of course not. He is my boss.Tgat is all there is to it'.
'If you say so'.
The music changed to Waltz. And as the dancing went on, they had to change their partners.
Jason manovuered his partner so that they were dancing close to Nancy.
He pushed Rebecca to another partner we hile taking the place of Alfred.
'I see that you have found love in the arms of Alfred's, he said through his teeth.
'And you are enjoying yourself with your ex-wife and other ladies, she said giving him a fake smile for the sake of anybody who might be watching them.
The switched partners and came back together again.
'Rebecca means nothing to me. I am just being polite like a good host should but you? Everybody at the party is contemplating and betting on it that Alfred will soon pop the question'.
The partner switch took place again and when they came back together,
'I shall be the luckiest girl alive if he does. He is fun to be with and I am beginning to like him alot and I just met him. By the time we spend quality time together, I know that I shall grow to love him. It is easy to fall in love with him, you know'. Nancy said dreamily while still smiling.
Jason was furious and wanted to hit somebody. He knew that he would give Alfred a punch if he could.
'Luckiest girl alive heh? Better get to know his family first before you start entertaining such dreams and the both of you had better not hide anything from each other. Then you will know if you are lucky or not'. Jason said and the music ended with all the dance partners holding their partners in strategic and fascinating positions. Jason was holding Nancy like one who just saved her from falling and was trying to kiss her.
The audience clapped in merriment for the dancers and they all went back to their seats.
Nancy was tired and feeling dizzy and suffocated.
She went outside for some fresh air and stood resting on the terrace.
Alfred who had seen her go out came to her.
'Are you okay at all?' he asked.
'Yes, I am. I just in need of air. The hall is too hot'.
'It is, isn't it?' he agreed.
'How can we meet?'
'You already know where I work. You are free to visit me there during lunch hours'.
'Thanks for the invitation but I meant about a date. I have thoroughly enjoyed your company and I would like to see you again but this time not just in a party such as this one but in a quiet place where we can be together and get to know each other better'.
'When you visit me at my work place, we could see about that's, she said smiling.
Alfred smiled as well, squeezed her hands, gave her a peck and as he lifted his head, her earrings got entangled with his head and he had to bend again and they struggled to disentangle it.
Jason had been looking around for Nancy but couldn't find her. He decided to come out for a bit. The hall was really hot.
He saw Nancy and was about to call out to her when he saw Alfred dip his head and kissed her.
Jason stood rooted to the spot.
How could you Nancy? How could you allow another man to kiss you? And who was this Alfred to take what belonged to him?'
He felt like going over there and giving him a beating but that would cause a scene.
From Jason's point of view, Alfred had wanted to raise his head but Nancy had drawn him back to his him more thoroughly.
He watched as they struggled with the kiss. His fury building up. He could not watch anymore. His heart was in pain. He felt that Nancy had just betrayed him. How could she enjoy someone else's kiss after the way she had responded in his arms? Women were all the same! He had thought that Nancy was different but he had just been proven wrong.
After, being released from the hold of the earring, Alfred looked at Nancy and the both of them laughed.
'Your earring does not want me to leave you. It seems to be in support that we see each other again. And I shall ensure that I do not disappoint it!' he swore and they both burst into laughter again.
Jason who had been going in heard the sound of their laughter and that was the last straw. He felt that they must be laughing at his expense or because, they had enjoyed their passionate kiss.
He went in and Rebecca came again to be with him.
Phoebe saw all this but though it irritated her,she did not feel any more that Rebecca was a threat. She knew where the threat lay and she was going to do away with it like one removes a thorn in one's flesh.
