Chapter 89: Chapter 89
The next day, Jason went to work without seeing Nancy. It was just as well because he did not know how he would have reacted.
He had been able to control himself after other encounters he had had with her but the previous day's encounter was different.
He felt like he had made love to her in the complete sense of the word.
And she was now in his blood. She was like a virus in his blood. He could not stop thinking about her and how they had loved. Her words of love and desire kept re - echoing in his ears. He had been unable to sleep last night. He had wanted to go to her, spend the night in her quarters or invite her over. He had had to exercise an iron control on himself before he could stop himself. He felt impatient now to make her his. He wondered what he had been thinking the previous day.
They would have been lovers in the real sense of the word by now and it would have been difficult for either of them to keep apart from each other.
He knew that what they had was something special.
Jason was so taken away with thoughts of Nancy and what he would like to do to her that would make her scream his name that he did not see a car coming at top speed.
He saw it at the last minute and swayed to the side and the car drove past without even reducing it's speed.
Jason stopped at the side of the road to regain his breath because it had been as sudden as it was sho king.
It had been a close shave with death and so close to Christmas.
He became more cautious as he drove the remaining distance to his company.
'Nancy, you will be the death of me', he thought aloud as he packed in the slot reserved for him as the CEO of the company.
While Jason was in the office keeping appointments and trying his utmost not to think about Nancy and his overpowering desire for her, Nancy was also at home trying her best possible to forget about Jason.
She did not come out at all, not even to help Mrs. Potts the way she usually did.
Mrs. Potts came to see her thinking she might be unwell because it was unusual for her not to come help her.
She came bringing Nancy some breakfast and fruits.
'Are you okay? You did come to the kitchen today'.
'I am feeling a bit unwell and the activities of the past few days is making me restless' she said accepting the food she brought.
'What activities? You mean Phoebe's insulting words yesterday?'
Nancy could not tell her how close she and Jason had come to consummating their relationship. That Jason had been the sensible one between them.
'Yes. And I do not blame her but Mother Potts, I do not think that I can continue to stay here. Do you know of any agents, whose services zi could employ to help me in my house hunt. It is urgent. I have to go away from here!'
Mrs. Potts was alarmed.
'Why would you want to leave because of what another woman said to you?'
Nancy wanted to tell her that it was not because of Phoebe's utterances that she was leaving but because she could not trust herself around Jason any longer and not even the other way round.
She knew that Jason only had to touch her and she would fall flat like a pack of cards and she didn't want that. She had her dignity to preserve.
'Well, she is going to get married to Jason, Isn't she? What is left here for me?'
'The security of your child! You do not have anybody here to help you with your child when it is born. Could you not endure because of the innocent baby? Would you punish it because of the misendeavour of the adults? And by the way, I thought you were going to fight?' Mrs Potts asked disappointed.
'To what end?'
'Do you know that when Mr. Campbell came home yesterday, he had a serious row with Phoebe?'
That was news and she had been here torturing herself with images of the both of them making hot love and feeding her self pity.
'Why?'
'She felt that Mr. Campbell had come home early because of you and had gone directly to your quarters. I believe that she felt that something intimate happened and who wouldn't? He was looking really rough and unkept when he came into the mansion and he had been with you for a long time!' Mrs Potts said looking knowing at Nancy. Little escaoed her noticed. She had been happy at the outcome yesterday and that was why she had been pretty sure Nancy would come to tell her all about it in the morning or at least that her happiness would be visible but she had grown worried when she hadn't come and that was why she had come to her instead.
Nancy blushed when she heard what Mrs Potts said about Jason's time with her.
'It was nothing like that. I was sleeping when he came and he was about to go back when I sensed a presence in the room and woke.
He asked me how I was faring and we spent a little time arguing about staying at home or coming to work. I couldn't possibly stay home for too long. It would make me feel bored but that was what he wanted because he heard that the doctor recommended bed rest'.
'Hmmm, was that really all?'
'Oh Mrs. Potts, what else could there possibly be?'
'Nothing. But Phoebe obviously thought otherwise and confronted him and he gave her a piece of his mind. She followed him upstairs and the argument continued and Mr. Campbell asked her not to come here in his absence and that she could not pack in until he made up his mind to marry her and the plans finalized. I was so happy that I jumped. The woman needed to be put in her place. Look at what she acted yesterday and you are here feeling sf pity that will not take you anywhere.
Fight for your love because I know that you love Me. Campbell and seeing the way he defended you yesterday, I can say confidently that the feeling is mutual'.
'Okay, I shall stay because of the baby's welfare but if there are things I cannot endure, then I shall leave. Promise me that you won't stop me then?'
Mrs. Potts felt that there wasn't going to be any such thing and so,she felt very confident making Nancy the promise not to stop her from leaving if anything she could not endure happened.
'Now eat something. You do not have to starve yourself. You have to look and feel good for yourself and your baby'. she advised.
