Chapter 188: Chapter 188
Mattias took her to the new venue praying that he would still be in the men's trusted books.
Like he had foretold, the security was tighter.
But raising his hands and asking the ma'am to do the same, they were able to get within some inches of the place.
'Comrades', Mattias calked cheerfully. 'I am the ma'am came back from prison where we had gone to see the boss and he had ordered that the little girl be sent back to her parents and that was why we came here to get her. I didn't know that she was to come with me, she was supposed to have stayed at home while I brought the girl to her but she has trust issues because she has not had dealings with us before. She does not know that there is loyalty amongst thieves'.
But if that is the case why did you give us the prompt to vacate the place immediately?'
'The reason is because I was shocked that she had followed me to this place but she is our boss' wife afterall and it's her prerogative. If not for the fact that it will be somewhat risky, I would have asked that you call the boss and confirm. You know that if he has not given this order and I go against him, I am dead meat and he will hunt me down till he finds me and kills me. I wouldn't risk that. What I have said is the truth. She will help us take the child back to her parents and this will help us avoid the check points on the way'.
The men considered what Mattias had said and felt that it was his cup of tea. He brought the girl and if the order had changed and he was to take her back, then that was his business.
They beckoned on them to come in but getting in, they could not find the girl
Then they saw the back door ajar.
While they had all been listening to Mattias, the girl had made her escape.
But they were not too bothered because they felt that she couldn't have gone too far on foot.
They went through the back door but could not find her in the premises. Where could such a little girl have gone in such a short space of time? Some of the men ran to the road but could not find her.
Mrs. Richmond who had been around children for a long time felt that she could be playing hide and seek.
She started calling her and laughing to put her at ease.
'Josephine. Jose baby, you came come out now, all the bad guys have all run to the road in search of you. I am mummy's friend and she has asked me to bring you home and that is why I am here'.
No response
As she kept speaking, she kept going round, searching all the hidden corners until she found her huddled in one corner no one would have dared to look.
The little girl looked at her uncertainly as the ma'am pulled her up and put of her hiding place gently.
She was still staring at Mrs. Richmond when some of the men came back and were happy to see that she was already found but sighting the bad guys, Josephine ran out of the compound with the men running after her. Mrs. Richmond tried to stop them but they did not listen and she nearly got hit by an upcoming vehicle.
Thank goodness it was just a slight hit but she fell and Rodney's wife had to rush her off to the hospital to find out if anything was amiss like an internal bleeding or any such thing but thankfully she was okay but some drugs were given her and she was asked to go home. Mrs. Richmond made sure that she held her firmly in her grasp, she did not want any excuses this time.
She took her to her house and her children wondered who she was. She had her bathed, styled her hair and gave her food. She allowed her to rest. She had been stressed so much and though she knew the child was anxious to see her parents and be with them, she knew that she had to have rest as well.
So the next day, after breakfast, she prepared her for their trip to her parents.
'Is she going home now?' they asked.
'Yes, she is going home to see her parents. Her mummy has asked me to bring her back to her and that is what I am doing'.
' it mum, you did not tell us who she is. Is she a relative or something?'
'Yes, she is a kind of relative but you might not understand how related until you grow older but for now, consider her a very good friend'.
They all hugged Josephine goodbye.
The trip to Lake District was uneventful and surprisingly, they were not disturbed. Most probably because of the way woman and child were chatting and laughing.
She also made sure the child had all the treats that would keep her happy.
When they got to the Campbell's residence,Josephine recognizing her home leapt gleefully and as they walked towards the door, both Jason and Nancy came out to see if what Mrs Potts had informed them about the return of their child was the truth.
They saw Josephine who pulled her hands away from the kind woman and ran to hug her parents. She was so happy to be back home.
'Thank you so much', Nancy said to Rodney's wife, tears of joy and gratitude in her eyes.
She smiled her welcome and nodded. The scene before her eyes was a very touching one a d she was glad that she had been able to bring a little amount of joy to this family who evidently love themselves so much.
'Please come do come in. You are no longer a stranger to us but a very good friend'. Jason said, his gratitude evident in his face and voice.
'I need to be on my way back but I do not mind a cup of coffee'.
She entered the house and was offered coffee and some biscuits.
'Nice place you have here', she said looking round.
They discussed everything but the reason that brought her except to thank her profusely for her help.
'I did not have to exert much effort. Your visit to my husband already melted his resolve and I just added the needed push, so the work had already been done by you and if you had not come to tell me about it, I would never have known in the first place. You have a very wise woman as a wife, Campbell'
'Don't I know that?' Jason said smiling at Nancy who blushed prettily.
'If you had not still helped us, he might have changed his mind again. So you did well and you did not even ask us to come for her but took it on yourself to bring her safely back to us. That alone is worthy of commendation. So please do not be modest about what you have done for us. It is invaluable and we shall forever remain in your debt'
After her coffee, she said she must go as she had alot of things to attend to and left, happy to have been able to do this for them.
Josephine came and hugged her goodbye and kept waving till she drove out of sight.
