Chapter 167: Chapter 167

'I am sorry your Honour', but this doctor is lying', Jason said loudly and there was an uproar in court.

'Excuse me, Mr. will you tell me now how to do my job or would you want me to hand it over to you so that you could try doing it?'

There was laughter all round a d the judge was angry and hit his mantel.

'Quiet! he said and everywhere became still.

'And Mr. Campbell, if you do not comport yourself, I shall charge you with contempt of court. Now be seated and let's do the business for which we are here and I shall entertain no more interruptions from you'.

'But your Honour'....'

'Sit down or leave this instance!' he yelled.

Jason had no option but to sit. It was better for him to be in court and see what happens next than being outside. The suspense would kill him.

Nancy was asked to take the oath which she did.

'Can you introduce yourself to us Miss?'

the lawyer started.

'I am Nancy Jones and work in the Campbell's Enterprises as Mr. Campbell's personal secretary'.

'Could it be said that you also live with him?'

'Yes, he gave me quarters, behind his house to live because I had housing issues'.

'What would you say your relationship with Mr. Campbell was?'

'I do not understand!'

'What I mean, Miss Jones is do you have a romantic relationship with Mr. Campbell or was it merely professional?'

'Objection, my Lord, this line of questioning is irrelevant to this case' Hoberman said.

'I am trying to establish the reason for the enmity in the first place, your Honour'.

'Objection overruled. Answer the question Miss Jones.

'Well it was plainly professional at first until my boss started making romantic overturns at me'.

'Before the accident, were you having a romantic relationship with him? Did you encourage his 'overturns'?

'Well, he is a very attractive man and very persuasive. He is also my boss and very wealthy. I owe him alot. My accommodation, job and all, how could I survive if I was thrown out on the streets for disobeying or antagonizing him?'

Jason shit his eyes. 'This was not the way it was!' he thought in dismay. How low can these people stoop? He looked at the lawyer and damn the consequences, he would have gladly shot him in the head for putting Nancy through this humiliation.

'So because of all this, you went into a relationship with him?'

'Yes, I did'.

'And he knew you were carrying someone's baby?'

'He did. He was going to adopt him, or so he told me'.

'A gentleman taken advantage of the vulnerable state if a young girl who was supposed to be his ward. Amazing! Okay, tell me, what happened on the day all these fighting took place.

'Well, Jason had asked us to tail Rodney. We were to make sure that he did not come trouble us anymore. I didn't want anyone to get hurt but he had other plans in his mind and then there was a shooting and somehow I got hit and must have been rushed to the hospital because when I woke, it was in a strange place and a strange bed and I could not remember anything, not even my name but now, I can'.

'Thank you Miss Jones. Your witness' Mr. Hoberman, the attorney said to his learned colleague gesturing towards Nancy. Jason shook his head indicating that Nancy must not be questioned.

This was exactly what the defence knew would happen.

Jason looked at Nancy but she kept her eyes straight ahead. He knew this was not his Nancy. She had been brainwashed and didn't know what she was saying or doing. But he would see that all of these people responsible for this paid dearly for it, if it was the last thing he did.

He did not know how he was going to achieve it and it seemed like they had won but he would definitely make them pay even if he had to go against his principles to do it.

The Judge himself was surprised at the testimony of Miss Jones and so was all in the court. After her testimony, everywhere was quiet and then very noisy as everyone started speaking at the same time.

After bringing the court to order, the judge called for a recess till one pm.

He felt for Campbell. He had always respected him but what desire or love could make a man do this?

The Jones woman was supposed to be their star witness afterall but had revealed everything. The case was as good as closed though he knew that he shouldn't conclude yet, because surprises spring up when you least expected them but he didn't see anyway, Campbell could get himself out of this.

He knew that he would have to give his judgement before the end of the day and had given them time to put themselves together.

Outside the court room, Jason was pacing. He did not know what to do and the defence attorney did not allow him come close to Nancy and she did not even want to look his way and when she did, it was with defiance.

'They had even down a seed of hatred for him in her heart and she thinks of me as her enemy', Jason thought in dismay.

His lawyer was trying to calm him down.

'Jason, you were not able to make any video or recordings of the scene? But of course, how could you with guns blasting all round. It would have been foolish to have done that'.

Jason thought. He knew that he had made recordings but being unconscious and the other activities after he woke, the realization that Nancy was still in a coma, the attempt on their lives and Nancy's amnesia had made it skip his mind.

'Actually, I did but I do not know if it's still there or has been selected because there was a time we hen Richmond had my phone in his custody. I'm surprised he didn't smash it but he may have selected the video though I doubt he saw me making a video of them all and I do not know if it would be accepted in court or if what I recorded would be relevant'.

'Bring it let me have a look at it. Let's just hope it has not been deleted', the lawyer said, thinking wildly of all forms of possibilities and strategies he could use to still come out if the case victorious.
