Nancy cried and cried. She could not believe that she had allowed herself to be humiliated this way.

What was it with her that she could not think rationally anytime Jason came close to her?

She had virtually fallen into his arms. So he was right in calling her surrender to her attention by reminding her of her denial.

She slept and when she woke, she concentrated on looking for a dress that would flatter her as she went in her date with Alfred.

He had been jealous when she had done nothing with Alfred.

Now, she was going to give him something to be jealous about.

When they got back from their day out, Nancy knew because the children ran to her quarters chatting excitedly about all they did and their experiences.

Nancy convinced them later to go in, have a bath to wash off the dirt, eat if they felt like it and have a nap.

She read a little till it was time for her to get dressed.

She brought out the dress she had chosen, silvery ash gown, sleeveless, flared from the breast line down to her feet, with a slash that reached her thighs. She stepped into her silver sandals and put on silvery drop earrings.

She had spent the day washing and rolling her hair. Taking off the rollers, her hair fell in lovely golden waves.

Her makeover seemed like that made by a specialist.

During her college days, she had gone for a months training in makeups and makeovers.

She looked at herself in the mirror and was satisfied with her looks.

She knew that she looked very sexy and ravishing, what with the v-cut of her gown around the chest region that gave a glimpse of her full fair breasts.

Alfred arrived soon afterwards. He was right on time, Nancy grabbed her silvery purse and stepped out.

They walked to his car and we're about to get in when Jason came out. His eyes furious.

'Nancy, so you decided not to heed all that I told you, right? Well, there is no need talking now. I shall have to go with you'.

Alfred who didn't know what was going on, was shocked.

'Go with us? Whatever for?'

'For her safety!' he said shapely.

'I am not going to eat her up. It is just a date and she will be home soon. By the way, she is not a baby and can take care of herself!' Alfred said.

'Yes, but the situation is such that I need to be with her and keep watch over her always'.

'Jason, you are making a scene. Alfred is here to protect me, you need not bother yourself. He will take care of me', Nancy said, not believing how Jason was acting.

'Alright you will have to choose. Either I go out with you but at a distance, or you don't leave here at all.

After arguing for sometime, Alfred consented against Nancy's will for Jason to follow them at a distance in his own car and his table would be different from theirs.

'But Alfred....'

'No, Nancy, allow him. He is your boss afterall. I do not know what this security issue is all about but I know you will tell me when you are ready. We have already wasted much time talking, let's get going already. I don't know about you but I am starving'.

So they went to a five star hotel cum restaurant with Jason in tow seething that Alfred had taken his place by taking Nancy out on a date instead of him.

They sat and ordered their food. Nancy stole glances at Jason but most times he was not even looking their way.

Nancy was still not very comfortable that he was present in the same restaurant as they.

'Forget about him and relax. What if we had got here and found him with one of his lady friends? Would you have run off then? You are an adult and a beautiful one at that', Alfred said.

Nancy smiled and thought to herself that Alfred did not know the whole story. But she made an effort to look happy.

'I am happy that you agreed to go out with me today', Alfred said smiling at her.

'It was nothing. It is just one friend hanging out with another. There is nothing more to it'.

Alfred did not think so. At least that was not what he wanted and he planned to make Nancy see that they belonged together.

'Tell me about yourself', he requested.

'What is there to tell?'

'Anything and everything you are willing to tell me'.

'Well, I shall but let me know about you', Nancy said.

'I am the first son of my parents. They have a departmental store that is doing quite well, not being arrogant.

I am a lawyer but I still take interest in the store. I do not believe in being restricted to only one form of sourcing for income. I have a younger brother, Arnold and a sister Annette. We are a close knitted family and I do not joke with any of my siblings nor my parents. Their word is law but when I make a decision, they know I cannot be swayed and they respect my opinion', he said. 'I went to Yale for my education and I am single and searching. Now, your turn'.

Nancy was impressed and if she said she did not know what Alfred was after, then she would be a liar. She did not want to lie to him but it felt good to be desired and she just wanted to put it off for a little longer before telling him all she could about herself.

'I shall tell you about myself but let us drink the champagne that you ordered.

As Alfred popped the champagne to celebrate the fact that she accepted to go out with him, a slow music started playing and as they toasted to a greater and closer friendship that Nancy was skeptical about, Alfred gulped down his drink and asked Nancy to dance with him.

Nancy did not want to do that but remembering that she wanted to make Jason jealous, she took a sip of the champagne bearing in mind that she couldn't take much because of her pregnancy and stood up to the disappointment of Jason who had been hoping that his presence there would dampen their enthusiasm they might have going on the date together.
