Chapter 115: Chapter 115
Jason cold not think of any reason, Rodney would want to speak to Nancy and he. But he had never been one to back out of difficult situations.
'Since you would want to speak to us alone, you'd better come with me into my study, I believe we shall have enough privacy there'.
The three of them went into his study which was very spacious and we'll furnished.
Nancy had never gone into his study before. She had thought that it was always a small room in a house but this study was befitting a mansion such as the Campbell's mansion.
'Please sit!' Jason said, all at once, the perfect host.
Chris.followed his wife and children upstairs, he had really missed them. Phoebe felt that she could not go anywhere. She had to find out what the man wanted to speak to them about.
'I shall ring for coffee's, Jason announced.
He rang the bell and Sandy came in with a steamy jug of coffee in a tray with cups.
Jason dismissed her.
'You said you had something to discuss with the both of us?' he said as he poured himself a cup.
Rodney poured a cup for himself and sipped before saying anything.
Nancy declined, saying that she was already full but the fact was that the taste of coffee no longer agreed with her and this had been so since she became pregnant.
'Nancy, aren't you going to introduce me properly to your boss?' Rodney asked looking straight into her eyes and smiling.
What was Rodney up to now? Nancy thought to herself. Why had he come now to reopen old wounds?
She had worked hard to forget about him though it had not been easy because of the life growing in her womb and she had thought that she would not see him again. So what was this?
'Nancy?' Rodney prompted.
Jason did not know what was going on but whatever it was, did not seem funny. He had never trusted Richmond and here he was asking Nancy to introduce him? What did the both of them have in common?
'I shall if you can't' he said and would have said more but Nancy chose that moment to speak.
'Mr. Campbell, Mr. Richmond here is the villain who got me pregnant while keeping me in the dark about his marital status. There is nothing more to it. We have since gone our separate ways from the instant I knew of his deception and duplicity, though I wonder why that he is here'.
Jason was shocked. Richmond was the father of Nancy's unborn child? He looked from one person to the other.
'So, now she has introduced you to me. What else?'
'Well I am here to take her with me'. Rodney said.
Both Jason and Nancy were dumbfounded. They found their voices and shouted simultaneously:
'Take me back with you!'
'Take her back with you?'
'Yes and why not?'
'Well for one, she is pregnant with my baby and I am now ready to take full responsibility for it'.
'Take responsibility for the child you wanted me to abort? You left and revealed to me how you didn't want me destroying your home, because I refused to terminate the pregnancy. Now you are claiming it? What if I had aborted it?'
'Well, thank goodness you didn't and since the baby is still growing in your womb, it cannot be denied that it is mine. And I have full rights on it'.
Jason felt deflated. He had feared this sort of thing would happen. Even his sister had said the same thing. That had been the reason she hadn't wanted him marrying Nancy. She had guessed right that a time might come when the father of Nancy's baby would come to claim it but he had not expected it to be this soon.
'How did you find her?'
'Oh, I saw her picture and yours dancing at a function of some sorts recently. It would seem that you threw a party to advertise your company. That was when I realised how much I had missed her and how much I couldn't allow her to raise the baby on her own. But I was not sure she kept it and I had to find out or get her pregnant with another but I can see that the baby is still bouncing and men, am I glad!'
Jason wanted to hit him. To murder him but he kept a tight leash on his emotions.
He wanted to put this imbecile in his place but he did not want to jump to conclusions. He had to know what Nancy thought. Who knows, she just might want to return to him, afterall he was her first love and the father of her unborn child.
'Nancy, do you want to go back with him?'
'How can you even say that? If you had not saved me, would he have cared if I had died or not? Would he be here claiming his paternal rights? He abandoned me Jason. He neither cared if I lived nor died. He was more interested in saving his marriage, which is as should be but he should have intimated me about his marital status and then if I were foolish enough to dance to his tunes, then I would have known I was the architect of my own misfortune but he didn't until he learnt of my pregnancy and my refusal to terminate it'.
'Richmond, you heard the lady. She does not want you and since she has been able to take care of herself so far without any help from you, she will continue without your assistance. In fact, I shall give her every necessary assistance she may need. You do not have to bother. You have lost all right to her baby when you rejected it and would have had it killed. Now, both the mother and child want nothing to do with you. I have decided to adopt the baby as mine. In fact, I consider the baby mine. I already have a connection with it that you may never have'.
'And who are you to say all these?'
'I am someone who wants to marry her and give her child my name and home be ause the baby is mine'!'
'Can you prove that in a court of law?'
'I am ready to go anywhere to prove my point. Being a father is not just by getting a girl pregnant but by being responsible enough to take responsibility for the action. I am sure your wife will assist us in this suit.
By the way, you rejected her to save your marriage, what happened all of a sudden? You are no longer interested in saving your home?'
Rodney was shocked and went deadly pale. He had not expected this.
Nancy who had been shocked and had been staring at Jason, her mouth wide open in surprise as a result of his marriage declaration a moment ago, turned to stare at Rodney.
'Yes, why did you suddenly have a change of heart? Did your wife suddenly decide she can share you with other girls? Or you no longer care about your home?' Nancy asked looking at him menacingly, awaiting answers.
