Chapter 42: Chapter 42

Everything she said pierced into his heart like sharp shards of glass. It hurt. Yes, why would he even think that there could be a chance between them given how badly he had hurt her and her family?

‘Believe it not Lisa, I’m sorry for everything, it was all my fault.’ Omar said, feeling defeated.

“Well of course it was your fault, or should it have been my fault.”

‘No, no of course you are not the problem. I’m truly sorry for all that heartbreak I caused you.’

‘Really, we are talking about heartbreak. Sweetheart, you didn’t break my heart, you still don’t have that power, you disappointed me. And can you please stop saying sorry, it's irritating, and if sorry could change things, then I wouldn’t be like this, and you wouldn’t be like that?’

“I know and I don’t know what else to do, I want to make up to you and your family for it.”

“Ha-ha you want to make up for it, wow, the most prideful man on earth wants to make it up to my family after ruining everything. Mmh, after costing my father his health, you think you can just slide back and apologize or do whatever you think is making up to us, and it's okay. No, it isn’t enough. That day my father nearly died. We experienced despair because of you. Now, I’m not even sure why I am meeting you here.”

At this, Omar started panicking, ‘I’m sorry Lisa, can we please stop talking about it, I don’t want to upset you anymore. Can we please talk about this some other time please? I promise I will explain everything.’ Omar said as he swallowed deeply. It hurt to see her so broken. It was all his work and he didn’t know how to make things right or better.

‘In any case, you were the one who brought the topic up,’ Lisa said as she noticed with an embarrassed face that they had quickly become a point of interest in the restaurant even though their voices had not been so raised. It was at that time that the waiter decided to show up. Apparently, he had already come and upon seeing them in such a heated discussion, wisely chose to wait. Lisa felt her face burning as she attempted to order something.

“I will have the house specialty thanks and a glass of red wine.”

“Great and what about you sir?”

“I will have some mashed potatoes and salmon fish kindly.”

“Okay, anything you would love to have before the food is ready, a glass of juice perhaps?”

“I think a glass of lemonade will do thanks.”

After taking their orders, the table was left with an awkward silence. Omar didn’t know how to start a conversation with Lisa anymore and neither did Lisa want to talk. Talk of the past had ruined the atmosphere and whatever closeness had grown between them over the past few days. Omar opened his mouth several times to start a conversation but he found himself ultimately just shutting up. Inside, he was beating himself up for bringing up the topic in the first place.

When the food was finally brought in, it was a relief because the tension that had been building between the two of them could have been cut with a knife. They dug in with a gusto that was probably faked because they just wanted to be done with the food and go, although Omar did try to open up a conversation by commenting on the food the only reply he got was an Mh.

Luca’s mind was still a mess with what he had found right there in the hospital. A baby and she looked so much like him it was uncanny, perhaps this could only be Omar’s offspring. When did Lisa have the baby, were they already back with Omar, and did he know about the baby? Thoughts of the other lady accompanying Lisa were now pushed to the distant past as his mind spun in circles. This was such a good surprise. His parents and sister did not know about the baby and so that had to mean something and he would find out. After watching her for a while, he moved from the hospital and took a cab home.

He already considered himself to have done some digging considering the scoop he had just got. He now just had to sound out his brother, and then get his lover and train her to love him. His sadistic mind kept turning thoughts of Lexi in his mind. He had to get her and he knew he would. Getting home, it was to meet his mom, who had already prepared food. He missed sitting around the table with the four of them together. He desired for his siblings to sit with him, together with his parents even though his father was already gone.

Remembering that fateful day that his father met his demise brought a sour taste to his mouth. Everything about it was so wrong. They had been coming back from having a fun day in the mountains, a picnic day as they had said it. they were smiling and laughing, while his father drove. The four of them had been at the back while their father was in the front.

‘Papa, I want to be a pilot when I grow up.’

‘Ha-ha mom, did you hear that, our little boy here wants to drive us all around.’

How could I not here, my Omar here is supper handsome and bright.

“Me too mama, I want to be a pilot,” Lucas said although he was a little slower considering there had been a little complication with his birth.

‘Ha-ha okay, then we will have two pilots in our house and then little Milka will keep her parent’s company at home, right.’ Harriet said as she turned to her youngest baby Milka to tickle her. it was at that time in the midst of their joy that a car came from the opposite direction, the owner obviously drunk, rushing towards them while moving in a zigzag way. Their father saw it and tried to excuse the driver but the lane was too narrow and it was only a matter of time. Looking at the back, he turned the car in such a way that almost all the impact was on the front part of the car, leaving it a mangled mess of iron.
