Chapter 37: Chapter 37

‘Yes, my very capable stylist. How are you?’

‘Ha-ha Lisa, you had better get here otherwise your baby here will go mad. Lexi said with a pout.

‘Huh, why go mad.’

‘It’s an emergency, I cannot discuss it on phone.’

‘En okay, I will be there just give me a few minutes.’

After finishing her video call, she went downstairs to wait for her friend as she tried to understand herself. Everything felt foreign to her. It was like her body was suddenly alive like she had been a dormant volcano that was suddenly showing signs of erupting. Look at her, she had only sat there for a while and all her mind could focus on was tony, his lips, how he talked, how it would feel to just kiss him. Damn, she was officially in deep trouble.

Omar woke up with a start to realize that he had actually slept in his car. It was then that he remembered that his brother was back. In as much as they did not consult him when they brought Lucas is back, he could still understand their need to be a whole family. Could Lucas be really okay and was he the one with the problem since he could not even forgive himself for what he did? Was he somehow punishing Lucas by having him stay at the mental hospital? After all, he was the only brother he had, was it even okay to do that?

Amidst all these thoughts, his mind went back to Lisa and his curiosity was piqued. Why had she gone to that hospital? He had realized that every time he had met Lisa even before the marriage day, she seemed preoccupied and tired. She had lost a few kilos too if the way the clothes sagged around her were evidence. How had he not noticed? He was seriously now curious about why all that was happening. Pushing the events of yesternight to the back of his mind, he started his car to his apartment. He needed to freshen up and handle some business.

Lisa finally arrived at lexis's place and she opened the door for her so dramatically it was comical. Her hair looked a mess and the only thing that salvaged her image was the nice crop top and shorts she had on.

“Oh, my baby, what is happening to you,” Lisa said as she struggled to keep up and sit beside her.

“Aiyo Lisa,” Lexi said in a dramatic way, with her shoulders poised in a certain way. “I’m done for.”

“Okaaay, I don’t get you what Is wrong? Did you kill someone and you want us to hide the body.”

“What the hell Lisa, be serious.” She said as she rolled her eyes. “Don’t get mad at me but Ilikeanthony.” She said it all in one breath with the words stringed together.

“Huh, please speak slowly and clearly, I did not get even a tenth of what you were talking about.”

“Okay, I like Anthony.”

“Now you are clear, which Anthony are we talking about by the way?”

“Duh, the one who works at your office.”

At that, Lisa spilled a mouthful of some drinking chocolate that she had sipped from her friend’s cup. “What the hell Lisa, tony, my tony.”

“Yeah, that one,” Lexi said as she bit her lower lip and hid her face behind her face. “I don’t know what to do.”

“Wow, I must say I certainly did not expect that. So, what about liking him is giving you a problem.” Lisa said as she trembled inside. She seriously doubted whether this was her Lexi, the very same one whose relationships and love could not be said in the same sentence.

“Well for one I can’t stop thinking about him.”

“And?”

“I don’t know whether he likes me back.”

“Okay…”

“And I want him to, though I’m scared of going after him.”

“Ha-ha Lexi, was this it? I don’t see any issue with any of this. And it should be easy to find out how he feels about you. You can flat out ask him what he feels about you and you could try using your looks and getting a confession out of him.” When Lisa finally lifted her head to look at Lexi, she was met with sparkling eyes that were full of mischief.

“Perfect Lisa, I knew you had the perfect solution.” She said as she hid a goofy stupid smile.

“How so,” Lisa asked as the mischievous eyes danced with joy. She knew instinctively that her friend was planning something way out of line by her look.

“Okay, so I want to make him confess to me, that he likes me. Oh Anthony, he just won’t even know what hit him.” She said as she started making plans on her phone and Lisa was effectively shut out.

Banging on the table, she got her attention. “Hey did you just call me to have me sit here, watching you do your own things?”

“Eh, my baby do not be angry, I am just strategizing, don’t you want your girl to enjoy love.”

“Ha-ha okay Lexi, you go on strategizing, I’ll leave you to your devices then. I love you baby girl and don’t overthink.”

Somehow, Lisa pitied the storm that she knew would go on for Anthony. She knew that Lisa could be pretty persuasive when she wanted something and she kind of looked forward to it. Standing up, she locked the door behind her as she walked out. The sun was already out and shining so bright it was blinding. Sniffing herself, she realized that she felt dirty and sweaty, it was time she went home and freshened up, then go to work and finally go visit Marya at the hospital. She had been progressing so well that they had hoped she would wake up by the end of that week.

Now that she thought of it, she felt weird because she had not seen her dad and Rosetta at Lexi’s place. as she waited for a cab, she called her dad and the line went through.

‘Hey dad, morning.’

‘Morning to you too baby girl, he said a little breathlessly into the phone.

‘I didn’t see you at lexis, what happened.’

‘Oh, about that, your mom and I just umm wanted our space for a while.’

Nearly choking on her saliva, her eyes widened as she realized that she might have stopped something going on with her phone call. No wonder he was breathing so hard. Her parents seriously. Ughhh. ‘Ha-ha okay dad, bye-bye, talk to you later, say hi to mom.’ She said as she quickly disconnected the phone. Even her dad was getting some. For a while now, she had regarded Rosetta as the mom she had never had, which had reminded her of her biological mom. She did not even understand what had happened to her, though she knew that her mom according to the engagement was supposed to get married today.

As much as she knew that it was irrational to think like that, she still craved her mother’s attention. At least some acknowledgment. Yet she knew it was a lost cause. She was supposed to be happy and excited to have a new mom who far surpassed her very fake mom but her heart just yearned for her. sighing, she clumped shut that department as the taxi she was waiting for slid just beside her. just as she opened the door, she felt a slight tingly shiver run down her neck as her hair stood straight on her neck. Strange, why did she feel like someone was watching her? turning to look around, she searched not knowing what she was looking for and when she did not find anything, she got inside the car and drove away.
