Chapter 15: Chapter 15
Lisa stepped through the front door to see strong shoulders in a black suit bending over the receptionist desk as Anthony conversed with him. Her heart raced at high a beat, thrumming like the west African drums within her cage. She could feel herself growing weak while wandering what had drawn him to that place. the Omar he knew now, certainly wouldn’t be coming to the place with honorable intentions. The nerve of the man to get into her space. She could feel the place constricting around her and in a flash of anger, she moved with purpose towards him.
Before she could get to him, he turned to face her and her heart palpitated with excitement. The man looked handsome and his blue eyes bore right into hers as he attempted a smile. Feeling enchanted she stopped on realizing that she was nearly smiling back towards home. What must he think of her? a cheap slut, who was worth nothing, she thought as the anger that had receded came back full force, angry at herself for succumbing to his charm. Really, just one look from a man who had betrayed and broken her heart into million pieces and the hurt of the past disappeared. How pathetic could she really be.
Striding with purpose and with anger fueling her thoughts, she reached him, and in a tone, she could not believe was from her, she asked him to leave. “I came to see you Lisa, I have missed you.” He said as the words grated on her ears. The nerve of the man. Now, fighting against the dams she knew would break as a result of her anger, she tried to control her voice to the coolest it could be. “Please, Mr. Omar, leave, haven’t you done enough. Right now, I have nothing of yours. Kindly leave before I do something both us will regret.” She was surprised she had been cool and collected, belaying the tumultuous emotions that were ravaging her brain.
“Lisa,” he said as he raised his hand. He took a step towards her and she moved from him, clearing the path for him to walk towards the door. She knew that she had to get him outside quick, before she lost all composure and made a fool of herself by crying. Could her day really get any worse and who had directed him to her. “I’m sorry, we need to talk.” He said, but even as he finished his statement, Omar already knew that he had no leeway with her.
Fucking get out of here. She said as she took a hold of his arm and dragged him out. Did she know that even though she had become toned she was still as delicate as a flower? Allowing her to pull him from the place, he knew that he had to re-plan in his mind because she would not listen to him in the state that she was in. never ever come here Omar, we have nothing left to talk about in this lifetime, you scum of a man.” Shutting the door with a finality, she walked towards her office in the back, ignoring the obvious concern etched on Anthony’s face.
Sinking in her chair, she held her head in hands as she felt herself shaking with anger and deep-down desire. The man was a scum, and he had the nerve to approach her after what he had done to her and her family. Because of him, her dad had nearly died and lost his memories, only regaining them slowly. When he did, he had been angry and wanted to come confront Omar, but she had held him, what would the man do to her father the second time. The man was too powerful and she had gone through a lot to risk losing her father all over again.
She remembered as she closed her eyes to the pain that those few years in a foreign country with a young pregnancy had caused her. the betrayal had gnawed on her self-esteem and everything around her had seemed bleak and distasteful. She had lost a whole lot of weight, not just because of the morning sick ness that accompanied her; like a leech, no, it was waking up at night her body thrumming with desire from a man who had betrayed her like no other.
During the day, she hated him but during her sleep, he was a recurring nightmare, driving her into insanity with desire. Those first few days had been a struggle to face her world and the fact that’s she now had a human being growing within her. she did not even know what to do, after her friend had given her some money for their flight, they had gotten a house where they rented with her dad. It had been tiny but they had to manage. The furniture had been old, left behind by the old tenant and not having to purchase had been a bonus.
She searched for a job, the fact that her tummy was still hidden proving a bit useful. However, the only jobs she could get that wouldn’t mind her pregnant stature were in hotels. She started off as a waiter and worked her ass off. Every time she went back home, her feet aching, and her back spasming in pain, she drew into her own cocoon of depression. God knew she tried to fight it off. She wanted to rise from the bitter hole that seemingly drew her close with every step. Rejection rang in her mind. Her mom had not wanted her. the only lover she had ever known had deserted her. her friends had also distanced themselves from her. was she really that unlovable?
