Chapter 14: Chapter 14

Lisa woke up with a start. “Shit” she swore as she struggled to get past the tangled mess of bedsheets. How had she foregone the alarm, she thought as she looked back and realized she was in the same bed with Marya, and if she was not careful, she would have her energetic self-awake, which was something she could not manage as of then. So slowly, she lifted herself out of the tangled mess and rushed into the bathroom. Quickly she had a shower and within twenty minutes she was ready to go. Her hair held in a loose bun above her head while her black pencil trousers traced her body perfectly.

She did not feel the best but it was something. Haling a cab, she went on to the meeting she had with her wedding clients. The bride had requested for a meeting and she had agreed that they meet by 7;30 and she knew at the rate at which the morning traffic was moving, she would be there nearly ten minutes late. She hated any time she was late for an appointment because it also grated on her nerves once someone chose to be late for her appointment. Stopping by the hotel, she rushed right into the foyer, scrambling to get the names of her appointment out.

Mr. Evans and his fiancé eve were waiting for her and the way miss Eve was tapping her nails on the table, she knew that she was already irritated more than everything else. When she finally sat down, the woman did not even take look at her, rather she threw a cursory glance at her which then turned into a frown of distaste. The scowl now marking her face made her fiercely made-up face look distasteful. She knew then that she was in for it and she could not help the flash of irritation that rose from within her. her client had been a tad impossible. The man had been okay but once the woman started talking, she would start changing over and over and Lisa, for the sake of starting off well had been patient enough to ignore her demands.

She made amendments after every moment. You would not believe they had started off with red roses for the walk way but had changed with time to beige. Where was she supposed to get them? Now she was giving her nonexistent colors and the problem was not the nonexistent colors, rather it was the constant change that was nearly driving her insane. She now had only two weeks to the day and she had already purchased the things they needed. Every whimsical change caused her to dip into the money and when she had tried to talk to the lady, she had said that she was paying way too much not to get whatever she wanted.

Taking a deep breath, she looked at them and schooled her emotions into a business mode. “Good morning Mr. Evans, miss Eve. I’m sorry for the delay. Would you mind if we get down into business immediately? “

Sorry, baby, she says she is sorry after keeping us waiting for nearly an hour, the nerve.” Eve said as she turned to glare at her.

“Babe, it really was not even more than ten minutes, don’t you think we should do as she says.”

“Don’t try to patronize me Evans, are you trying to undermine my status before her. she has to explain why she was late to our meeting.”

Evans, on realizing that his meddling was only worsening things, decidedly stopped talking and started eating. Realizing that she had to face the devil on her own, she attempted to slow the anger that was bubbling just beneath her lips.” I’m sorry miss eve, unfortunately my alarm did not ring, and I had to stop a cab, which is why I’m late.”

With the amount of money, we are paying, you should be able to deliver on point. We don’t pay you to sleep. And it would have been good if you were delivering whatever we want. But no, you are hell bent on not doing anything right, ruining my day, she said as the water dams were threatening to flow, she turned to Evans.

Looking at the man, Lisa could not help but wonder what he was thinking getting married to the drama queen. She was a difficult woman and also annoying. She wished she could stop working for her. she already had a lot on her plate without added work.

Sighing, she apologized before they started talking again. To be honest, the wedding preparations were already grating on her nerves and the migraine she could feel starting made her want to just go and curl on her seat. Yet she realized nothing good came easily. Working, on her anger, she walked on to her office, where she would at least take breakfast and some coffee to jumpstart her day. This day already had the starting of a bad day and she could not help curse the failure of her alarm.

When she finally got in, carrying a cup of coffee, she was feeling oddly exhausted as though she had walked millions of miles with a heavy luggage strapped on her back. When she got there, she saw Antony, the Italian guy she had hired waiting just outside and she didn’t know why, she felt a breath of fresh air. Opening the shop, she left him after delegating some duties and went to the back office where she tried to relax while taking her coffee. She had to get everything in order and also register her daughter into a school. And so, after relaxing, she went and the St Theresa school attracted her.

Within a short while she had the admission forms and the next day, she could bring in her daughter. Now the only thing remaining was to get her school uniform and try to relax the rest of the day out. In the afternoon, she came back to the office, to find a red Ferrari parked just outside her shop. Somehow, a sense of apprehension and trepidation caught her in a tight grip as her mind tried to fathom who could be here yet her heart already sensed who it was.
