Chapter 52: Chapter 52
A week later.
~~~
It's been a week now and Amanda hasn't opened her eyes. I was depressed as I stared out of the windows.
She was supposed to open her eyes within four days. I sat on the seat close to her watching her day and night.
The doctors said she was healing and responding fast to the treatment.
Her heartbeat was getting better and that gladdens my heart.
Her parents gave me a call and informed me that they were in the states.
I gave them the address of the hospital and said they will be here soon.
I've lost weight, I didn't have the appetite to eat, and most times I was forced.
The doctors have removed the oxygen from Amanda's nose and said that her breathing was normal.
I was full of hope that she will be perfectly fine.
" Sir, The parents of the patient are here should I let them in," A nurse informed as she walked into the room.
"Yes, please let them in," I said feeling awkward this would be the first time I'd be meeting her parents.
I wish I could meet under different circumstances not when their daughter had an accident.
I've been planning on meeting them ever since I made up my mind about marrying Amanda.
"Oh my God!" An older version of Amanda which was her mum got in covering her mouth with her palms.
She had tears on her face and I stood there cowardly.
" I didn't hear this on time if not I'd be here baby," She cried as she held Amanda's hands on the bed.
Her dad stood behind the door tall and you'd know he's a no-nonsense man.
"How did this happen?" Her dad said walking up to me.
"She had an accident which was mistaken," I explained trying not to give them the full details of what happened exactly.
I don't know why am trying not to expose Angela or maybe because she said she didn't do it on purpose but she dares not try anything this time around, I'll make sure she wroth in jail.
"Are you Drake Triston?" Her mum asked.
"Yes, I am," I said.
"Nice to meet you, Ammy talks a lot about you each time I call her," She said sadly with a smile as she looked at Amanda.
' She did talk about me to her parents' I thought feeling bitter about what happened to her.
' Get well soon my love' I thought as I looked at her.
Annie and Max came by with flowers and we kept them by her bedside.
"Mum!' Annie said as she went over to hug Amanda's mum.
" I can't believe this is happening to her," Amanda's mum said bitterly as Annie comforted her.
Amanda's Dad was not a man that seems emotional but has a strong mind that his daughter will be well soon.
We all glanced at her before stepping out of the room.
We went to the visitor's room and sat on the seat as we were given some fruit juice to drink.
We talked and Annie was good at helping us take our problems for a while.
She's also the strong type who keeps her feelings to herself and tries to make others happy.
"What did the doctors say regarding Amanda's health?" Amanda's mum asked looking at me.
" She's responding fast to the treatment and she will be well soon," I said making their hopes high.
" I know my Ammy will make it out strong," Annie said happily.
I dare not tell them the real part of Amanda losing her memory that will only give them hypertension and heartaches.
"Is anything wrong with you?" Amanda's mum asked looking at me.
"No-no! Am fine!" I said forcing a smile on my face.
"You look depressed at the moment," she said concernedly.
Now I know where Amanda got her observation traits from.
Her dad was silent throughout as he just sipped on his juice staring at everyone.
"Yes, I just want Amanda to be fine," I sighed as I brushed my hair to the back with my palms.
" She will be fine," Amanda's mum assured me and I nodded.
We talked some more and I was glad that Amanda's parents were easygoing especially her mum.
"Do you have anywhere you can stay for the night?" I asked them.
" We are thinking of going to Amanda's apartment to stay there for the while till she wakes up," Her mum answered.
" No, you can stay at my place till Amanda is okay," I said.
"That's nice of you." Amanda's mum said smiling at me.
Amanda's Dad stared at me all along making me feel nervous but I had to brush it off and be bold.
They stayed for another one hour before announcing they wanted to leave.
We went back to Amanda's room to check on her before they finally left.
Amanda's dad came over to me.
"You love my daughter, don't you?" He asked in a deep voice staring at me.
"Yes, I do," I replied firmly.
He nodded, " Thanks for being there for her," He said as he patted my shoulder.
I smiled at him.
"Max takes them home and makes them feel comfortable," I said smiling at Max.
"At your service sir," He said with a salute and I rolled my eyes.
Amanda's mum waved at me as Annie's hands were in hers.
I followed them out of the hospital till they got into the car and left.
I sighed and went back into the hospital and went back to Amanda's room.
I went closer to her bed, her face as calm as ever.
I knelt on my knee as a tear escaped my eyes and dropped on her hand.
"I need you Amanda, please get well, "I said weakly as I kissed her hands.
I noticed something on the computer screen that showed how her heart was beating, it was moving fast and I stood up immediately.
I looked at Amanda and her body was shaking.
I got scared and pressed the intercom button.
"Please I need a nurse or a doctor right here now!" I said loudly as fear gripped me with panic.
I went over to Amanda her body still shaking as I held her hands.
She opened her eyes.
"Drake!!" She said.
