Chapter 85: Chapter 85
Chapter 87 Sarah Olsen's Demand
Judging from Elly's reaction, John realized that something else was wrong.
Elly turned her face and tried to control her emotions. John's question rang in her ears:
"Elly, what's wrong?"
Elly shook her head.
'He's not yet ready. I can't even figure out how to tell him the truth.' She thought.
She was not a good liar, and John only needed a few tricks to get her to talk.
He asked gently, and in a more determined tone than usual.
"It's about my arm, isn't it? Elly, tell me the truth, what is the doctor's conclusion? I want to hear the truth."
Elly did not say anything but her eyes continued to shed tears; her expression was like confirming John's guess.
"Am I terminally ill and only having a month to live?" John jokingly said to ease the heavy mood.
"What are you talking about? Don't say that." Her heart almost jumped out from her chest; she covered John's mouth in panic.
There was a slight laugh that escaped from his throat; his hand clasped her wrist, and John smiled and softly asked, "Good girl, tell me what's wrong with my body?"
John's trembling hands were not as calm as his voice. Elly bit her lower lip and her eyes turned red again. The current mood was so heavy that it was hard to talk.
"Yes, it's about your arm. The wound is too deep, the internal nerves are injured, and you won't be able to use that arm."
Elly stopped, and the pain in her chest left her out of breath. Her words are difficult to understand, but she still brutally tells the truth. The doctor said he might not get to hold the scalpel again. But he suggested going abroad for treatment and there would still chance to recover.
She sat in front of John, who was also sitting on the bed, she raised her head and looked him in the eyes. "We still have hope, John. Do not give up."
John did not answer and just looked at her calmly; not even the bad news could make any changes on his serene eyes.
"You don't need to be strong, you can always pour your feelings into me. Don't be so quiet. You're scaring me, John!"
Tears were streaming down her face, she sobbed while saying,
"The doctor said that as long as you cooperate with the treatment, there is a good chance of recovery."
At this time, John asked with a smile. "So, what did the doctor tell you about my chance of recovery?"
"The doctor said that there's not a hundred percent chance. He said it is because each person's muscle and recovering ability are not the same."
"Elly, I have been a doctor for many years, and I know how low the probability of recovery is in that doctor's words. I also know that the treatment time would take long. So, don't comfort me."
John's calmness made Elly's heart more uncomfortable. She felt so guilty that she dared not look into John's eyes, her head bowed and her voice choked.
"I'm so sorry. It's all because of me that you got hurt. If it hadn't been for that knife coming for me, your arm wouldn't have been wounded."
"Do you want me to watch you get stabbed?" He shouted in anger.
Elly did not expect him to be so angry and was afraid to look up.
He held her face tightly with his cold hands, he screamed.
"Do you want me to watch the person I love get killed in front of me? Elly, why are you so cold? Won't you even allow me to protect you from harm?"
John's affection made it impossible for her to answer, and he just smiled bitterly and stroked her face. "Anyway, you don't have to go back to the hospital, just like what my mother wanted. I need to be a filial son."
Elly knew he said that on purpose, so she wouldn't blame herself. Thinking of his dream and passion of being a doctor in the big city for many years, she could not quell her guilt.
John continued to comfort her, "I can no longer hold a scalpel, but it's not exactly a disability. My hand will tremble and will affect in performing surgeries, but it will not affect my normal life, which is still good."
"Yeah" Elly helplessly agreed.
Seeing her sad eyes, John turned to a more comfortable topic. "I slept so much today that I even missed dinner. I'm a little hungry now. Can you buy food so we can eat together?"
John asked reluctantly. Elly's heart seemed to have been stabbed by a knife. She quickly stood up from the room so that he could not see the tears on her face.
The door of the room closed and his façade was broken.
Elly saw John through the small glass window. She saw the man who was leaning against headboard lose his smile; then she helplessly walked away.
Elly left with tears streaming down her face. She wanted to buy midnight snacks for him.
While crying, she walked quickly into the elevator and closed the door. Elly sat on the floor, buried her head on her arm, crying madly and sobbing loudly. As long as she remember John's broken arm, she knew that she owes him more than an arm.
With a hum, the elevator door opened, and Elly looked up in surprise when she saw that familiar face again.
Looking at each other for a few seconds, she quickly stood up and wipe away her tears then smiled reluctantly. "Miss Olsen, why are you here this late?"
She said asked politely, but Sarah Olsen did not respond and said dismissively.
"Is it not normal for me to visit my fiancé in the hospital? Contrary to you, a stranger in the hospital has been stalking someone else's boyfriend all night. What is your purpose?"
"No, it's not what you think it is." Elly hurriedly explained.
"Who knows what you really are up to?" Sarah Olsen's tone was venomous.
"Stop acting. I want to talk to you. You don't mind, right?"
"Yes. Yes."
Elly followed Sarah Olsen to the lower ground, and the two sat on the stone chairs under the yellow leaves of the old tree.
Sarah Olsen took out her cell phone and opened a picture to show Elly. The person in the picture was Mrs. Elliot, she was lying in a hospital bed, and the scene around her was definitely a hospital.
The photo surprised Elly. "Didn't you say that she just had elevated blood pressure? Is it serious enough to be hospitalized?"
"I said that so John won't worry." Sarah Olsen answered and took the phone, she sighed helplessly.
'I thought she had gone too far to me, but now I can understand how she feels.' Elly thought.
Sarah Olsen watched Elly's expression became guilty.
"For you, John once abandoned his career; and now, in order to save you, John lost his ability to continue the work he loves. I was so angry at you for staying in the hospital because you're also the one who put John on this condition."
Sarah Olsen just simply told the truth and not deliberately aimed at Elly, but her cold voice was hard to decipher that.
"It's mistake. It's entirely my fault." Elly murmured to herself that every word contained self-blame.
Listening to her remorse, Sarah Olsen looked at her indifferently, unconcerned and uncomforting.
"I'm telling you, I did not come here to listen to your useless self-remorse. I hope you leave him alone. Don't involve him anymore."
Sarah Olsen knew that what she said today would make John blame her and even hate her in the future. But how could she look at the man she loves again and again protecting another woman.
"Elly, you are a selfish person."
Elly remained motionless and kept silent. There are a lot of harsh words in her ears, but they are the truth.
"I hope you can fulfill Mrs. Elliot's wish and stay away from John. She threatened John, so he would work in the company to help her. I begged you to leave John because his safety is always at risk when he's with you. Can you do it?"
Hatred could be clearly seen in every sentence of Sarah Olsen. "You don't need to be forced by anyone. You can go back to John in the hospital. It's all your choice."
With those words, Elly felt like she was stabbed in the heart by a knife, and those facts made it irrefutable.
"I don't hate you because we are strangers. I hate John risking his life to protect you. As his current girlfriend, I ask you not to see John again."
Sarah Olsen's frank personality made the conversation much easier. In fact, even if Sarah Olsen did not talk to Elly, she has already made up her mind.
"Okay, I promise you." Elly was still feeling heartache and guilty.
"I will definitely leave, but can I take care of him for a few more days? At least, until his hands get better."
"There's no need" Sarah Olsen said
"You don't have to think about it." Refusing to agree to Elly's request was cruel, but she didn't give in.
"I'll take care of him. As for you, leave tonight and never appear in front of John again."
Elly sobbed silently.
Sarah Olsen did not give her another glance before she stood up, with disdain on her face, she turned around and went her way into the hospital.
Elly's heart was sore, her shoulder was shaking but she did not say a word.
