Chapter 70: Chapter 70
Chapter 72 Like His Mother
"Madeline Russel?"
Elly heard Emily mentioned Alex's ex-wife before and now the worker said that he was sure that Alex loved his ex-wife very much.
"You seem to found out what you have a lot in common."
As she remembered what Elly said to her, she asked carefully "I heard that Mr. Alex's ex-wife had died."
The staff's face was heavy again and his voice was full of sadness and answered. "Yes, Miss Maddie died in a car accident."
Elly hid her shock and felt a sudden pain in her heart. The staff became frightened as he talked too much and hurriedly ended the topic. "Miss Elly, have a rest. I'll make you have something to eat."
The door closed as Elly looked around. The more she looked at the things in the room, the more familiar she felt. Familiar as if she lives here.
Elly sat on the bed, the door was opened, and a small figure pounced on her.
"My dear Elly!" Kitten's little head kept rubbing her heart jumped and said happily. "We haven't been seen each other for a long time. I missed you so much!"
As she looked at Kitten's lovely face, Elly's heart melted and she gently stroked Kitten's cheek. "I missed it, too! But I've been so busy lately that I can't come with you. are you angry at Aunt Elly? "
"Of course not." Kitten kept shaking his head, put his arms around her neck, and kissed her face. "I want to sleep with you tonight."
Elly never refused Kitten's pleading eyes but she is worried that it is not good. After a moment of hesitation, she asked him. "But you need to ask your father's consent."
"It's no big deal." Kitten jumped to the ground, put down Elly's hand, and ran out of the room.
In the master bedroom, Alex was reading at the bedside when he saw the door open from the outside and Kitten's mischievous head poked in.
"What are you thinking?" Alex asked excitedly as he looked at his suspicious son. "Do I look like a thief?
Kitten went to bed, opened his eyes wide, and begged. "Dad, can I sleep with Aunt Elly tonight?"
Alex was surprised at his son's request. "Why do you have to sleep with Aunt Elly? When you grow up, you should get used to sleeping alone."
"Because it's my beautiful Aunt Elly, I want to sleep with a beautiful woman." Kitten answered quickly.
Because of this, his father refused and Kitten should sleep alone. Kitten bowed his head, clasped his lips, and his two small hands twisted together for a long time before confessing.
"Because Aunt Elly looks like my mom"
He said in a weak voice, Kitten was afraid that his father would be angry with him because he mentioned his mother and his father doesn't want it. However, he didn't know that his words broke Alex's heart.
Madeline died in a traffic accident. Kitten has not been loved by his stepmother since he was a child. Alex believed that Emily might regard him as her own son. However, he made a mistake in his choice because he was abused and let his son bear a lot of warmth.
Kitten has no mother or even a father figure because he often works overtime at the company or doesn't go home, and failed to fulfill his responsibilities as a father. He owes Kitten too much.
Alex suddenly came up with an idea and asked Kitten. "Do you want Aunt Elly to stay with us forever?"
"Yes, sir!" Kitten answered without thinking, but he served him at will. "But then she left before, and I didn't like it. You should lock her in the house and let me play with her."
Alex raised his forehead and tried to analyze how this four-year-old boy would understand in the easiest way possible "Let's not lock up other people for them not to leave us, I like Aunt Elly, but I want her to love you very much and won't run away from us"
"How would you do that? Tell me, I will make Aunt Elly love me" Kitten innocently asked.
Alex had a plan. He kept his thoughts of Kitten in mind and whispered in his ear "How about you persuade Aunt Elly into agreeing to stay in the Hargreaves' family"
Kitten rushed to Elly's room with his father's grand plan. "Aunt Elly, I promised to sleep with you."
The two of them played all night, and when it was time to go to bed, the kid turned around and refused to sleep. As she saw the time, Elly persuaded helplessly. "I promise I'll do everything so you would sleep already. Come on, close your eyes and get some sleep"
Kitten closed his eyes carefully and opened them again a few seconds later. "Read it so I can get some sleep." He asked.
After Elly read three stories, Kitten still had his eyes open, but he was too sleepy. "Aunt Elly, I can't sleep." He turned and looked at her with a smile while he was in Elly's arms. "You promise me one thing, and I'll go to bed."
Elly laughed. "From whom did you learn to make this offer?"
Kitten yawns answered "Dad."
The kid's innocent answer made her heart tremble slightly. 'I wonder if Alex still has a fever. Was he sleeping?' Elly thought. She shook her head and erased Alex's image from her mind. She then asked Kitten. "What's the deal?"
"I want you to promise to stay with me forever." Kitten's words made her smile stiff and her eyes sparkled with surprise. Kitten's face was naive and waited for her answer patiently.
Elly could not agree to this, but she did not know how to explain it to Kitten. She was afraid that saying no would make him sad and cry. She finally did not answer and turned to the topic that all the children liked. "Kitten, if you're not going to sleep, I'm going to tell other stories. Close your eyes, okay?"
She did not let Kitten answer, she immediately picked up the book and read it in a sensible tone. Because it was too late, and because it was easy for the child to fall asleep when she was whispering around him, he was dumbfounded and soon fell asleep.
As she looked at Kitten's innocent face, she sighed.
If she hadn't been too tired, she wouldn't have agreed to sleep at Alex's house tonight. She knew who she was, so she would never promise such things.
In the master bedroom not far from there, Alex was still awake.
James pushed open the door of the master bedroom and immediately scolded Alex when he saw that Alex was leaning against the head of the bed to check the materials in his hands. "Your fever has just gone down, you need to have a good rest, no one likes it, and you can't run away from your job, don't drive yourself to exhaustion. You're so stubborn!"
"My ears are going to become cocoons because you talk nonsense like an old woman." Alex did not raise his eyes but still stared at the file set in his hand. "James, why don't you go home? Are you going to sleep here?"
"Wow, what a great welcome! I drove myself back in the middle of the night for the sake of your health." James pinched his nose and made an understatement; he was sitting in a chair and saw around an open economic magazine. After looking at it for a while, he didn't understand. He threw it back into place and asked the question in his heart directly. "What's your on your mind?"
"You can ask whatever you want." Alex finally looked away from his work.
"Emily has lived here for three years and has never set foot in that room. Why would let a little secretary sleep there?"
Alex frowned and did not answer. He folded the document in his hand and looked at him carefully. "James, do you know how to restore a person's memory?"
"Why did you asked?" He asked a question, which Alex answered with an inexplicable question.
"Is there any way for people who have amnesia after an accident to restore their memories? How can we restore our memories?" Alex reiterated the problem.
James was shocked for a few seconds, and when he mentioned his medical major, he became more serious. "How long does the patient lost memory? Usually, after the loss of memory after a traffic accident, the patient will recover the forgotten memory in a short time. There are also those caused by psychological trauma that will never be remembered. The brain can be stimulated by recreating the scene of the accident, but there is little hope of recovery."
"Recreating the scene of the accident? Isn't that too cruel?" Alex remembered the horrors of three years, and his voice trembled a little.
"Doing so, we can use hypnosis instead of causing the patient to have an actual accident again." Dr. James was unable to understand Alex and was suddenly startled. "Why do you ask this question all of a sudden? What did you forget when you had a fever?"
"It's not me, it's a friend. She forgot something very important." Alex coldly answered.
"Who is she?" James was curious but could not get the answer. He said something fair. "The human brain is a very amazing thing, there is a lot of humans who want their memories to forget. Usually, through accidents, stimulate the outside, it's made them forget what they do not want to remember. Why would you ask someone who wants to forget to restore his memory?"
