Chapter 211: Chapter 211
Chapter 213 Truth
Mrs. Hargreaves had a rest all afternoon. When she went down to the living room, she saw Kitten who came home from school, he was seated while watching cartoons.
Looking at the small shadow, Mrs. Hargreaves felt guilty about her grandson.
The undeniable truth is that Alex left his child motherless and devoid of maternal love since birth. As Kitten's grandmother, she was not able to take good care of him, which made Mrs. Hargreaves's heart really heavy.
When Alex saw Mrs. Hargreaves walk in to the living room, he immediately patted Kitten on the shoulder and pointed behind him. He turned around and saw Mrs. Hargreaves standing on the door, his small eyes round and staring blankly.
"Stand up, and welcome your Grandma!" Alex urged.
Kitten closed his mouth and could not speak. After all, he had never met Mrs. Hargreaves before. He knew what grandma is, but he got a little hesitant.
Mrs. Hargreaves quietly observed Kitten, she secretly admired the consanguinity gene, and saw Alex in Kitten when he was a child.
She walked slowly to come near Kitten. "Hello! Kitten you are so handsome."
Kitten didn't answer, his eyes were twinkling. He liked the stranger's praise. But when Mrs. Hargreaves sat beside him and reached out to touch his face, Kitten suddenly jumped out of the chair, rushed and got into Elly's arms.
"Mom! Give me a hug!"
No one expected Kitten's reaction to be so intense. Mrs. Hargreaves's hands were frozen in the air, and her face flushed so shyly that Elly could only laugh reluctantly.
Alex shook Mrs. Hargreaves's hand and diverted her attention into something else. "Mom, when you told me that you'll be back home, I specially prepared some beautiful flowers. I'll show you."
When the two were left in the room, Elly turned to Kitten and made him sit on her lap. "Baby, that's your grandma. You might have never seen her before, but she's always been fond of you. Your behavior may upset her."
His eyes full of doubt. "Why have I never seen her before?"
"Because Grandpa is in poor health, and Grandma has to take care of him. That is why she can't arrange time for a visit."
He nodded and listened to her gentle persuasion, though it made sense. "Grandma is very sentimental. She will be very sad if you run away from her. Kitten is a smart and courteous boy. You don't want to upset others, do you?"
"Are is my family, too?"
"Yes! You will meet Grandpa soon. He is also a member of our family. We should not make our loved ones sad."
Kitten lowered his head and bit his lips to think, and for a moment he raised his bright eyes. The boy knew what to do.
As she Watched her son run out of the garden, Elly laughed happily. She thought that Kitten was getting smarter and wiser. She was really blessed to be his mother.
In the greenhouse, Mrs. Hargreaves looked at the rare flowers specifically sent by Alex for her. She was very happy and put aside her estranged sadness because of what happened in the living room with Kitten.
"These flowers can't make me totally happy, so they will just be wasted in here." Mrs. Hargreaves sighed regret. As soon as she finished talking, the hem of her coat was suddenly pulled.
Mrs. Hargreaves bowed her head and saw a pair of lovely round eyes
"Grandma."
"What did you call me?" Mrs. Hargreaves was startled by the shrill cry.
"Grandma."
Mrs. Hargreaves, with tears streaming down her face, sat down and kissed Kitten's face fiercely, and a satisfied smile bloomed on her lips. "That's so nice of you!"
Alex breathed a sigh of relief as he watched them hugging each other. Alex looked at Elly with gratitude in his eyes. He knew who influenced Kitten's acceptance of his grandmother.
After dinner, Mrs. Hargreaves wanted to read a story to Kitten, but when there were only two of them in the room, Mrs. Hargreaves curiously asked Kitten.
"Kitten, to be honest, is your dad's girlfriend nice to you? You need to tell me, does she treats you as a family?"
"Which girlfriend are you referring to?" Kitten was puzzled, in the twinkling of his eyes and had a bad tongue. "Who did dad sleep with again?"
"Isn't Elly your father's girlfriend?" Mrs. Hargreaves asked strangely, how does he treat his child? "Does she bullies or scold you?"
Now, he realized that her grandmother regard his mother as his father's girlfriend, and he answered without thinking. "She's my mother, not dad's girlfriend. She is very kind to me. I love her more than my father. I love her most!"
Mrs. Hargreaves felt a little distressed when she heard him scream. She thought that because of the child's lack of maternal love, he can act whatever he wanted and so she had to correct it immediately. "Baby, she's not your mother."
"She's my mother! Father went through a lot of things just to make her agree to marry him, and she also worked very hard to take care of me. If my mom would hear Grandma's words, she would certainly leave us again."
Because of that thought, Kitten's eyes turned red, warm and annoyed. He pushed Mrs. Hargreaves and screamed, "She's my mother!" Then jumped out of the bed and run out of the room.
Mrs. Hargreaves was so confused about Kitten's reaction that she came after him and found that he had slammed the door of his room. As it was too late, Mrs. Hargreaves decided to coax him the next day.
One of the original intentions of Mrs. Hargreaves's return to Italy was to meet his girlfriend Emily, who had been with Alex for three years. But she heard that Emily and Alex already broke up, which surprised her.
After all, Emily was Elly's sister, and Mrs. Hargreaves, as the older generation, could still give wedding gifts late.
When the two met, looking at the exquisite diamond necklace in the box, Emily hurriedly closed the lid and pushed it back to Mrs. Hargreaves.
"Ma'am, your gifts are too luxurious for me to accept."
"It's nothing, just a simple gift that represents my blessing to you." Mrs. Hargreaves pushed the box in front of Emily and smiled, "Wow. I didn't expect you to get married so soon."
Emily bowed her head sheepishly. "Kitten will not accept me to be his stepmother."
"Don't worry, he will accept you one day." Mrs. Hargreaves gave a few words of consolation and then walked into the main topic of the meeting. "I remember you lived with Alex for three years. Why did you break up? Is it because Alex's new girlfriend sabotaged your relationship?"
"Alex's new girlfriend?" Emily was at a loss. "Isn't this Elly?" Auntie, have you forgotten Madeline?
Mrs. Hargreaves did not understand what Emily meant, but she had an indescribable feeling in her heart. What, Madeline? Isn't that girl Elly?
Madeline is also Elly, both my sisters.
"What did you say?" Mrs. Hargreaves stammered, frightened and could not interpret what she had just heard.
"After the car accident, she had plastic surgery, which changed her appearance a lot. She wanted to start a new life, but a lot of things happened, and she went back to Alex, which was the fate of the two of them."
Emily did not mention Elly's revenge against Alex, nor did she mention her amnesia. Emily's voice was unhappy, but she can laugh easily.
"In fact, Alex has been with Elly for many years. Even if I stayed with him for three years, I can't replace Elly in his heart."
After a pause, Emily spoke out all her thoughts in one breath. There were some things that took a space in her heart, but she won't find out what's important until she lost it. "Auntie, their fate is to be together."
After returning to Alex's house, Mrs. HargreavesLinda locked herself in her room.
Elly got off from work later than usual that day. As soon as she got upstairs, she found Alex standing at the door of Mrs. Hargreaves's room with dinner in his hand.
"What happened? Did you make her angry?" She has doubts on her mind.
Alex shook his head innocently. "Since I came home from work, my mother locked herself in her room and didn't have dinner."
Elly glanced at the closed door and suggested. "Let me try."
She took the tray of dinner in her hand, she knocked on the door and whispered. "Auntie, it's me, Elly. Would you like something to eat?"
There's no response.
"Maybe you can go downstairs, maybe you're with me that's why she doesn't want to go out."
Alex walked into the living room with injustice.
She continued to knock patiently and the door suddenly opened from the inside. Mrs. Hargreaves told her, "Please come in."
Elly walked in happily and persuaded her gently. "This is your favorite dish that Alex specifically instructed the cook to prepare. You should eat a few pieces to make him happy."
But Mrs. Hargreaves stood by and watched her without taking the food tray. She had to put the tray on the small table beside her bed.
"Please eat. It would be bad for your stomach if you starve yourself. I won't disturb your rest now." Elly nodded and turned her back.
Mrs. Hargreaves suddenly stopped her. "Wait, wait."
Elly turned inexplicably and watched Mrs. Hargreaves walk forward. She held her hand tightly, stared at every line on her face, and finally stopped on her eyes, which worried Elly.
"Auntie, what's wrong?"
"Don't call me aunt, call me mother."
Elly said nothing, and she saw the red eyes of the person opposite her.
"The Hargreaves family is at fault. Alex's stupidity, arrogance and ignorance have made you suffer a lot of grievances. You are such an honest woman. If you don't hate him, that's his blessing. Thank you! Thank you for forgiving my son."
"You... already know?" Elly couldn't find a word. She was surprised.
"Today, I took the initiative to see Emily and wanted to ask Alex's new girlfriend through her to see what kind of person you are. It was the third person who interfered with the happiness of Emily and Alex. I didn't expect you to be Elly, my poor daughter-in-law."
Mrs. Hargreaves spoke bluntly and observed her carefully. "Although you have changed your appearance; I can still see Madeline in you. It doesn't matter. No matter how you look, you have always been my daughter-in-law." She said, full of adoration.
Elly was moved by Mrs. Hargreaves's words. When she got married five years ago, the emotional foundation between her and her mother-in-law was very fragile and was banned by Alex, so she did not had a chance to get in touch with her overseas.
But now, she knows that when Elly's identity appeared, she does not hate her, she was really happy. Happiness for the first time in life is the blessing of the elderly to the relationship between men and women.
Mrs. Hargreaves Lindasmiled into her wet eyes.
Elly opened her lips and finally spoke up. "Mom."
She doesn't remember how long she hadn't felt maternal love, and now Mrs. Hargreaves warmed her up.
The two of them hugged each other, not noticing that Alex was already standing on the door.
Watching the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law live in harmony, Alex's heart was full of self-remorse.
He regretted being ruthless to her in the past. Alex left in silence, feeling guilty. He knew that his feeling of remorse will last until death, and even if she forgave him, he won't forgive himself.
