Chapter 163: Chapter 163
Chapter 165 Revelation
Aron didn't understand what Elly talked about from beginning to end. Her unusual attitude and words made him feel suspicious and couldn't help but asked. "What's the matter with you today? After you met Alex Hargreaves, you became different. I wonder if he had any effect on you."
When she saw his face faked a naive expression, Elly can no longer be patient. She picked up the backup recording on her phone and sent it to him.
"Here are some good audio. Let's enjoy them together."
As soon as the cold sound ended, the recording was opened. When he heard his voice clearly, Aron was so shocked that his body was so cold that his face sank quickly, his eyes sparkled, and the light of horror flashed in his eyes.
Elly observed the reaction on his face and was increasingly disappointed with him.
Not letting the recording end, Aron grabbed the phone and pressed the machine. The impact made Elly's hand tremble, and she quietly looked at him and waited.
He explained anxiously. "That's not what you heard. Please let me explain. The ultimate goal of the plan is to hurt Alex, not you. Leila, don't get me wrong, okay?"
The indifference and apathy on her face made him say a lot of things in a panic, and the feeling of despair was spread. "I never thought of hurting you. If I wanted to kill you, why did I leave you here in the first place, right?
"Is this recording a fake? Was the conversation arranged? Isn't that you in there?" Elly asked him anxiously.
"I admit that this recording is true, but it is all for a reason. I know you were with Alex. I want to bet that if he sees that your life is in danger, Alex Hargreaves will either save you or run away so that you can see his true nature with your own eyes."
"But I didn't think he would risk his life to protect me, did he? You ridiculed his character, what do you bet? Why do you want me to bet?"
Aron answered enthusiastically. "I just want to give you a reason to leave him and not to be harassed or entangled anymore."
"But you've endangered my own life!" Elly shouted.
Elly was out of breath with anger, and she put her cell phone in her pocket. When she looked up, her eyes were in a daze. She pushed Aron in front of her and went straight to her desk. She held a paper cutter and saw a knife in the pen tube.
"You want me dead, right? You can stab me." Her fingers were raised, the creaking sound reverberated and the cold transparent colored blade revealed a long sharp edge.
Her face was emotionless. She put the knife in Aron's hand, grasped his wrist tightly, turned the blade back to her chest, and straightened her neck mischievously.
Aron finally couldn't stand it, so he threw the knife on the ground and made a noise on the floor which clanged on the ground.
The air immediately became froze and suffocating, and the two of them fell into the most terrible silence ever.
Aron hesitantly reached out to touch her, but she flinched unconsciously. His eyes turned down and let out a long sigh.
"Leila, you have to believe me. I never meant to hurt you. I was always behind you that night, and if Alex left you here alone, you wouldn't be in danger. Please believe me." His sincere voice implored her eyes. "I didn't mean to harm you, I just took the opportunity to teach him a lesson. I wanted to do this a long time ago. He hurt you and made you suffer, but he never paid the price for his actions. I'm not going to let it slide."
As she saw through his sincerity, Elly hesitated. She was still skeptical about his contradictory words and actions, but there is no denying that Aron has never hurt her. He helped Elly a lot for more than a year. Finally, she gave in and chose to forgive again. She wanted to give him a chance.
Alex was shocked that Elly forgave Aron. The loss in his heart became worse.
"Are you sure? You still trust him more and I sincerely doubt his intentions." Alex's voice was indifferent as he expressed his thoughts and he was still clueless on how to ease the pain in his heart.
Without getting her response, he was disappointed and asked sadly. "Elly, why are you unfair to me? What's the difference between me and him? Do you prefer to trust him?"
Elly reiterated with her voice that is very stable, her attitude is not too concerned, and answered calmly. "Because of your prior lies! You once lied to me. From the beginning, you and Aron were completely different. Don't compare yourself."
Alex laughed at her sarcasm, and he asked her the question regretfully. Her sarcastic answer was like a dagger into his painful heart.
He took a breath and asked earnestly. "If you are you willing to forgive Aron and trust him, so can you consider trusting me now, too? I'm not bragging and forcing myself, but Elly, after all, we've been through, can you trust me again?"
Elly nodded unconsciously, suddenly remembered that Alex on the other side of the phone could not see the gesture. She blushed with shame and said softly agreed in a calm voice.
She deliberately said she was angry and hung up.
Elly looked proudly at Alex's phone number and the corners of her mouth curled when his assistant entered the probation room. "Miss Leila, did you have a good day? You have a good smile."
"Did I?" Elly was taken aback. "Why did you ask?"
The assistant laughed heartily. "As soon as you came in, I saw you laughing a lot. There must be something funny about it."
"Am I laughing? I didn't even notice."
"Miss Leila, do you have a relationship with Boss Aron? You look lovely when you smile as if you were in love."
Elly was startled, and her soft expression turned into a stern and tough voice. "Pay attention to your work and don't talk about my private matters. You don't want to work here anymore, do you?"
The assistant looked pale, hurriedly withdrew her curiosity, and respectfully handed her the documents in her hand. "I'm sorry, I have a lot to do. This is the meeting document for tomorrow, and there is another document that needs to be reviewed. Please sign it for me."
"Okay, I get it. I'll call you after you go out and sign."
When the door was closed, Elly has held the material in one hand and stroked the corners of her lips unconsciously curled. The assistant's words still splashed in her ears that made her body not calm for a moment. It took a long time for her to recover. She shook her head, forced herself back to reality, and have no illusions.
Even if she did smile just now, she would laugh because she was happy, not because she fell in love as opposed to her assistant guessed. Love is something that cannot exist between her and Alex. In his heart, she's fully aware of the years when she was a wife in name.
To comfort herself and to let her mood slowly stabilized, she flipped through the materials carefully. She no longer paid attention to real or false problems.
Elly deliberately avoided Aron. She forgave him, but she could not face him as usual, so she chose to escape.
Aron is older than her, mature, and knew a lot about the situation. He didn't disturb her. Instead, he texted her after work. "Leila it's morning already. Don't go to work, go home, and have a rest!
He knew Elly don't want to see him, but he doesn't want her to work overtime just to avoid him.
When she heard the assistant said that Aron had left the company, Elly packed up her things from work and went to the company gate. What she saw in her eyes was Alex's car parked outside.
He stood sideways, leaned against the body of the car, held a loose bouquet of flowers in his hand, and rolled a cigarette on his lips in the other hand. Tall, symmetrical in a luxurious suit, his face was cold, and his eyes seemed to put no one and exude danger. Alex is like a silent painting in the setting sun. He's so beautiful that she can't breathe.
Elly stood there for a few seconds, feeling ashamed that he and many female colleagues in the company were immersed in this confusion.
She inhaled and stroked her head, she pretended that nothing had happened, walked up to him, and pressed her voice. "This is in front of my company. Do you want to embarrass me? Hurry up and leave. I don't want to be the object of gossip and onlookers."
Alex had no intention of leaving. He put aside the eviction by his ear. There was a charming smile on his mouth. Contrary to his cold face and temperament that is was somewhat ferocious. If he is good to you, I am willing to let go, but now, he is not good for you, of course, I will bring you back to me.
The bouquet was placed in her hand after he had finished his speech. Elly had a round mouth and looked at the smile at the corners of his mouth. Her heart had a chance to beat wildly in her chest. Embarrassed and flattered, she had not yet found a way to deal with the situation. She feared that stories will fly back only when she saw that there is an outcry of the envy of passers-by.
The flowers on her hands are heavy, big, and beautiful. Elly half loves and hates them. She doesn't know if she wants to return them to him. Her voice is low, she composed herself. "Are you crazy?"
"Seriously!?"
His tenacious eyes startled her. It was found that there were more and more people around him, including several colleagues in the same company. Elly, without saying a word, pushed Alex and left after him.
Alex did not care about the eyes around him, regardless of what others thought of him, and his heroic voice was indestructible and resolute. "If you don't come back, I'll kiss you in front of them."
