Chapter 36: Chapter 36
She waved her hand until he disappears from her sight. Heaving a breath, Ihsan nibbled on her lower lip and walked inside the house, she unlocked the door and went directly into the living room. All her veins were put to a halt by the sight before her, Sadeeq together with someone she would forever deny to see in her house. Her handbag fell on the tiled floor with a loud thud and she gained their attentions by that.
Brown haired ogle, she stared at her as though the girl that had taken something as important as life is from her. Sadeeq stood up in a matter of seconds and took Ihsan's hand before she was able to utter a word, completely shocked from what she saw. He guided her to his room and locked the door behind them, intently looking at her.
"It isn't what you're thinking, Ihsan. Don't misunderstand this to be something it isn't, I can explain." That was when her tears rolled down successfully, she didn't know why she was even feeling the heaviness weighing down her soul, she looked at him in the eyes and scoffed; angrily wiping at her tears.
"Get out of my way Sadeeq, and whatever I take it as, shouldn't be your business." She cleared her tears and made way to the door when he blocked her way, shaking his head sideways.
"You can't go there, Ihsan. What are you going to tell her? To chase her out of the house when it's some minutes to midnight? Please, Ihsan, understand me," he begged, folding his hands and his eyes screamed his plea.
"Are you telling me she won't leave this house tonight? Because you care about her to let her out or what? Sadeeq, for the last time, give me way. She shrugged his hands that were on her shoulders and turned the door knob in a swift, and she was in the living room in a matter of seconds.
"Get out of my house!" She roared at Noor and flung her handbag at her, staring at her wide eyes that turned bloodshot.
"She isn't going anywhere, Noor; let's go, you need to rest." He walked past a tongue tied Ihsan and lifted Noor up, entwining their hands. Ihsan watched as he moved past her and guided Noor out of the living room, she wasn't awestruck until she saw him led her into her room and told her to lock the door and not open it until in the morning.
He came back into the living room and his hand went out to her cold hand, she took hers back. "Don't touch me, Sadeeq! What is this? What are you doing? Are you out of your mind or perhaps drunk?" She drawled the words just as her tears made a fountain of her face, she couldn't believe it, her heart couldn't assimilate what Sadeeq had just done.
"I can explain," he started but she shut him up, roaring out her words while she took off her veil and head gear.
"Explain my foot! Me being a sickle cell patient doesn't make me blind or dumb you idiot! How I came in and met you isn't an enough proof? You can explain that? Or you taking her to my room and telling her not to open the door until tomorrow is explainable, tell me; is it?!" She clamoured and put her hands at akimbo, looking at him with so much disgust and pain, tears pouring down her cheeks.
"If only you calm your self down and sit down, you can't be acting like a mad lady Ihsan!" He roared back and she slackened upon the timbre of his voice.
"Oh, you're calling this madness? I'll show you how mad I can be that even the psychiatric hospitals in Qatar couldn't handle my madness. Their mad people here are the ones with normal sense in Nigeria you know? Just wait and see," she thundered back and she was out of the living room in a swift. The next thing Sadeeq heard was a door being knocked on as if it were to be dismantled.
He rushed out of the living room and met her violently beating at the door with the engine of their blender, seething with rage. "Open this door you pathetic woman! Wallahi you must leave this house today, it's either you open up in peace or you'll be dealt with in the cruel way your pathetic skin colour can't take!!!" The plastic shielding the engine were being splashed at and some of its parts were dropped on the floor.
"Stop this, Ihsan! What do you think you're doing?! Are you out of your senses?!" Sadeeq thundered and tried holding her hands but she shrugged him off.
"You said I'm mad right?! Sadeeq I'll show you the preamble of my madness, wallahi it's either this whore you have hidden in MY ROOM come out or I'll do something that'll take us to the police station early morning tomorrow!" And she banged the door with so much intensity the blender hit the door so hard it made the building shoot and fell on the ground.
The next thing Ihsan felt was a loud striking slap on her right cheek and then her left, it took her minutes before she lifted up her swollen eyes and set them into Sadeeq's infuriated ones. "What did you do? You aren't the one that slapped me right?" She asked out of disbelief, her left hand fondling between two cheeks.
"I did, and I'll do more than that if you keep acting like a mad woman! Get a freaking hold of yourself, why are you even acting like this? Aren't you the one that said we're just one year gap partners? I'm just your partner, more of an apartment mate, we don't even sleep in the same room to start with. Are you jealous? Why would you be jealous when we had an agreement that we'll be divorced before school ends and you'll marry the one you love and I too? What are your reasons for pulling up this tantrum? Do you have any? And don't even say you're my wife, because you made it clear that one year gap isn't strong enough to make me call you my wife. So, let my girlfriend live in peace, you're just my sister in the eyes of the people living in Qatar, act like one. If you like, you can come to my room and sleep there, if not, do what you think will suit you well."
Before she recuperated from his words, all she saw was his retreating back as he entered his room and left the door unlocked, she knew what he meant, but there is no one in the world that will make her sleep in the same room with that boy ever again, where can she file for a divorce?
She dragged her sloppy legs back to the living room and fell on the sofa, bursting into a series of tears. "Why Daada? You caused this upon me, what do I do now? I can't stay in this marriage again, I want to be out of it as soon as possible, it suffocates me," she cried, clutching unto her chest and started feeling the souvenir she took along with her from that restaurant, the souvenir that came after taking an ice.
She scanned for her bag around the living room and found nothing, and then she remembered, the first time Sadeeq guided her to his room, he took her handbag along. And ego, this three letter words that had broke more marriages than she could ever imagine, more lovers she could ever think of and more friendships she couldn't mind listing; stopped her from going to Sadeeq's room and ask him to take her to the hospital.
She curled herself into fetus position and wrapped her shaking hands around her chest, crying profusely. She knew she would surely pay for that ice, and what Sadeeq did to her? That can wait. Amidst her tears and painfully hurting joints and body, sleep managed to took her consciousness.
●
Sadeeq waited for her and he knew she wouldn't sleep in his room after an hour of her silence. He slept in without waiting for her and when the fajr salah was proclaimed, he rushed to Ihsan's room and whispered to Noor to unlock. She unlocked it and they rushed together out of the house in a swift, they were driving out of the compound.
He didn't come back until he prayed his fajr salah, and he directly entered the living room. He found Ihsan curled up but her left leg was shaking, he wondered what kind of sleep that was. He proceeded into the room and stood by the sofa she was laying on. He called her name numerous but got no response, he thought she was still mad at him and he hissed, walking back to his room.
"You can die for all I care, Idiot." Those were his words before he walked out of the living room completely.
