Chapter 75: Chapter 75

When Primrose woke up for the second time, it was already quite late. She blinked a few times to fully wake up, then looked around the room. Perhaps by this time, Joel was in the kitchen cooking, so she also got up leisurely, folded the blanket, and went to the bathroom to brush her teeth. After that, Primrose put on her pajamas and went downstairs to find Joel yawning and tousling her slightly messy hair.

"Awake now, sweetie? Did you sleep well?"

Since he had heard the faint footsteps from the stairs, Joel knew that Primrose was awake. He took off his apron and hung them neatly, then approached to help Primrose adjust her slightly messy hair before pulling out a chair for her to sit at the dining table.

"Are you ready for breakfast? I'll get it for you."

Primrose was still not fully awake from her dream, her gaze flickering lazily. Water droplets from washing her face still glistened on her fair complexion, but Joel carefully wiped them away before bringing her breakfast.

As requested by Primrose, her breakfast consisted of a simple sandwich with eggs and cold cuts, served with hot chicken soup. Primrose was naturally pleased with the preparation, and she waited for Joel to sit across from her before happily having breakfast together.

Joel cut the chicken into small pieces, seasoned it just right, and cooked the soup with sweet corn and carrots, creating a flavorful and comforting dish. Primrose quickly finished a bowl of soup. Then she savored the warm sandwich in her hand, enjoying the rich taste of the fried egg melting in her mouth.

Joel's cooking skills were improving day by day, and each dish he made was something that Primrose loved. After finishing her breakfast, she let out a satisfied sigh and took a deep breath, lazily blinking at Joel like a small cat.

"How are you feeling, sweetie? There's still some soup left in the pot. Would you like more?"

Joel asked again, and Primrose shook her head. She had already eaten this breakfast and felt quite full. If she continued eating, she wouldn't be able to have lunch.

Joel had finished his meal earlier and saw Primrose finish hers, so he followed his usual routine of clearing the dishes, wiping the table, and placing the dirty dishes into the dishwasher. Then, he led Primrose to the living room to relax and watch some popular entertainment shows currently trending.

The steady and unhurried pace of these recent days made Primrose feel like she and Joel were a long-married couple living harmoniously through their golden years. They calmly faced a simple life, separated from the hustle and bustle of the big city. They watched the sunrise and sunset together, admired the beautiful nature, and held hands as they grew older.

This thought suddenly crossed Primrose's mind, making her blush slightly. It was like, if this were the reality, it would be very tender.

After fully recovering from her illness, Joel agreed to let her return to work as usual. They both woke up together every morning and went to their respective workplaces. Primrose's colleagues were all eager to know about her health condition since they were concerned after hearing about her fever and sick leave.

"I'm fine. Thank you all for your concern. When I was sick, my husband and I took time off from our work to take care of me, so these past few days felt like a relaxing vacation. Very comfortable."

Primrose finished speaking, noticing Nancy's sparkling eyes and smile. She could vaguely guess what Nancy was thinking, but she pretended not to notice, only accepting the expressions of amazement from her colleagues.

"That's good, then. Your husband is so caring and attentive."

"Exactly. When I was sick, I asked my husband to buy me a fever-reducing medicine, and he got angry and scolded me for being a bother. It's really pitiful."

A colleague sighed, and the topic quickly changed. Everyone started sharing stories about their husbands and boyfriends being inconsiderate.

The only two people who remained silent and didn't participate in the conversation were Primrose and Nancy. They couldn't speak ill of Joel and Brian because both of their partners were genuinely good, treating them like princesses with patience and gentleness. The colleagues around them expressed admiration and envy for both of them, hoping that their own husbands could treat them the same way.

"Oh, Primrose, I just remember that I've never met your husband. When will you bring him to our end-of-quarter party?"

A colleague suggested it, as it was common for colleagues to bring their boyfriends and husbands to company gatherings or trips. However, only Primrose had always been secretive about her relationship, and no one had met her boyfriend.

This suggestion made Primrose internally panic. She cleared her throat lightly to hide her anxiety, then replied with forced calmness.

"He's usually very busy with work, so I'm not sure if he can make it. But I'll ask him about that."

Ariel, curious like the others, asked further.

"So, what does your husband do?"

Primrose suppressed her inner turmoil, closed her eyes, and made up an answer on the spot.

"Oh, he's a taxi driver, so he needs to work every day. Otherwise, he won't earn much money, you know."

The car rental company was also related to cars, and being a taxi driver was also related to cars, so Primrose was satisfied with her response. After all, she and Joel had agreed not to reveal their identities to others, so a small lie with some truth mixed in seemed very reasonable.

Finally, no one asked any more questions, and Primrose let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. These topics were indeed quite dangerous. Every time she was asked about them, she had to worry about finding an explanation that wouldn't raise suspicion, always in a state of tension. She sighed inwardly, thinking that if this continued, she would consider publicly acknowledging Joel as her husband. After all, a lie couldn't hide the truth forever, and coming up with new lies was incredibly exhausting for her.

After everyone returned to work, Primrose also returned to her secretary's office, sitting on the chair bored, reading some literature books, and waiting for time to pass.

After what felt like half an hour of sitting idly, Joel sent her a message asking her to come into his office to work. Primrose stood up straight, picked up another set of documents, and pretended to seriously knock on the door before entering.

The two of them fell into their familiar routine, sitting side by side and working together. Joel was busy handling paperwork for both of their companies at once, while Primrose leisurely admired her beautifully manicured nails and tended to her potted plants.

However, every time their eyes met, a playful smile would appear on their lips. This job was truly a dream come true for Primrose. Her colleagues were extremely friendly, the CEO was very, well, indulgent towards her, and the workload was light. It felt like every day she only needed to show up, and at the end of the month, she would receive her salary without much effort.

Indeed, having a billionaire husband was an incredibly happy thing. No need to stress about work; no fatigue from going to the company; just leisurely enjoying life. Primrose thought to herself with a happy smile.
