Chapter 71: Chapter 71
After returning home, Primrose and Joel took a bath and changed clothes before continuing to watch an episode of a show and then going to bed early. Recently, the weather had turned colder, so Joel had asked the housekeeper to change the thicker blanket for Primrose to keep her warm.
The two lay side by side, silently feeling the warmth of each other enveloping them comfortably, and they drifted off to sleep together.
Early the next morning, Joel was always the one to wake up first. He stretched and sat up, tucking the blanket back in for Primrose and adjusting her hair away from her forehead. To his surprise, he noticed that Primrose's forehead was slightly warmer than usual. Worriedly, he gently touched her forehead and spoke softly.
"Primrose, are you okay? You seem to have a fever. Your forehead feels a bit warm."
Primrose was roused from her sleep, lazily opening her eyes while her eyelids felt heavy. She let out a soft cough and then squinted as she looked ahead, replying weakly.
"Oh, really? I do feel a bit uncomfortable inside, and my throat as well."
Primrose's face was unusually flushed, and her body temperature was higher. Her voice was hoarse and different from usual, indicating that she was indeed unwell.
Joel became concerned and helped Primrose lie back down before quickly calling a private doctor to come and examine her. He then grabbed a clean towel to help her wipe her face. After a while, the private doctor arrived. After a careful examination, he looked at Joel somewhat reluctantly and said.
"She just has a fever. Giving her a fever-reducing medicine will be fine. Next time, you can proactively give her the medicine. This isn't a serious condition, no need to call a private doctor or go to the hospital."
When Joel had called, his anxious tone made the doctor think that Primrose's situation was more serious than it actually was. He had rushed over wearing his sleeping clothes and was slightly out of breath when he arrived. After examining Primrose for a while, they realized that she only had a mild fever and the situation wasn't worrying at all. This made Joel let out a sigh of relief in response to his earlier anxiety.
Joel, of course, understood what was implied. He sheepishly nodded, expressing his gratitude, and then escorted the doctor to leave. Primrose, who usually was healthy, suddenly becoming weak like this had worried him greatly. Furthermore, anything related to Primrose tended to make him lose his composure easily, which led to this slightly awkward situation.
Seeing that Primrose had fallen back into a light doze, he covered her with the blanket and then went to the kitchen to cook some porridge. He also took the chance to call his assistant to inform them that he wouldn't be coming to the company today and that he would be at home taking care of Primrose.
Even if it was just a fever, having someone else by her side to care for her was important. He didn't feel reassured leaving Primrose alone at home with the housekeeper. Therefore, within about half an hour, Joel was holding a bowl of steaming porridge and once again roused Primrose.
"Primrose, wake up and have some porridge. You should also take your medicine."
Primrose lazily opened her eyes, let out a soft cough, and then weakly lifted the blanket to cover her head.
"I don't want to eat. I'm really tired and just want to sleep."
Joel placed the bowl of porridge on the nearby table, slowly helped Primrose sit up, and leaned her against the headboard. Primrose's body was soft, and although her body temperature was slightly elevated, she obediently allowed herself to be cradled in Joel's arms.
"Primrose, do you want to eat on your own or should I feed you?"
Joel stroked Primrose's hair and tucked some strands behind her ear, looking at her with a gentle gaze. Perhaps due to her fever, Primrose's temperament seemed gentler and milder, and she blinked her eyes before softly pouting.
"I want you to feed me. My hand hurts, so I can't eat on my own."
Despite her hoarse voice, Primrose's words still carried a light, soft tone, akin to a small kitten nuzzling up to someone after waking up. Joel suppressed his desire to kiss her and instead scooped up a spoonful of porridge, gently blowing on it to cool it down before bringing it to Primrose's lips.
"Open your mouth, sweetie."
Primrose obediently opened her mouth and finished the spoonful of porridge. She chewed a few times and then swallowed, her lips forming a slight pout as she swallowed. She couldn't hold back from complaining.
"It doesn't taste good at all. I want something sweet."
Due to Primrose having a fever, Joel had made the porridge milder and plainer than usual. This seemed to disappoint Primrose, but Joel lovingly wiped the corner of her mouth with a tissue, using the tone of someone coaxing a child.
"Be good and finish this bowl of porridge. After that, I'll buy you something sweet, okay?"
Although Primrose wasn't entirely satisfied, Joel's patient coaxing worked. She reluctantly nodded and continued eating. By the time the bowl in Joel's hand was empty, he gently wiped her mouth with a tissue, then offered her some warm water to rinse her mouth.
"Sweetie, continue being good and taking your medicine, alright? Taking your medicine will help you get better. Then you can eat whatever you want."
Joel placed the fever-reducing medicine in Primrose's small hand and whispered softly into her ear. Primrose drowsily accepted it and placed it into her mouth, then drank the glass of water that Joel handed to her. After that, feeling tired, she leaned back onto the pillows. Joel, as usual, carefully helped her lie down in the middle of the bed and covered her with the blanket.
"You rest a little longer. You don't need to go to the company today; I'll stay home and take care of you."
In her drowsy state, Primrose simply nodded, not asking any questions. She closed her eyes tiredly. Joel looked at Primrose for a while, confirming that she was okay now, and then he tidied up the bowl and cup on the table before heading to the kitchen.
Subsequently, he busied himself preparing lunch for Primrose. He only ate a simple sandwich himself to avoid getting hungry. By the time Primrose woke up again, her mind was much clearer, and at least the dizziness was gone. She reached out to touch her forehead and found that her body temperature was just slightly warmer than usual, nothing to be concerned about. Feeling slightly lazy, she pushed the blanket away and sat up.
Looking around and not seeing Joel, Primrose blinked for a moment before slipping on her fluffy slippers and heading downstairs to find him. Perhaps due to the fever, she felt unusually attached to Joel and wanted to see him right now. She held onto the railing as she descended the stairs slowly, trying not to trip, and then made her way over to Joel, leaning against him with a slight nudge.
"Joel, I'm bored."
At this moment, Joel was in the midst of preparing a dessert for Primrose. He wiped his hands and walked over to Primrose, guiding her to sit down in a chair with a gentle expression.
"You're awake now? Do you want to eat something?"
Primrose shook her head. Having been coaxed to finish a whole bowl of porridge earlier, she wasn't particularly hungry right now. However, she did feel quite dull. Even if she had taken a day off from the company today, she wasn't quite sure how to alleviate her boredom.
"Do you feel tired or uncomfortable anywhere, sweetie?"
Joel gently stroked Primrose's hair and asked with concern, wondering if he should take her to the living room to watch TV. However, due to her fever, Primrose was more clingy than usual and outright refused to leave Joel's side, pouting her lips.
"I'm not uncomfortable, and I don't want to go anywhere. I just want to stay here with you."
Joel had no choice but to let Primrose sit still, while he continued to be patient and comforting.
"All right, you wait here for a moment. Once I finish making this dessert, we can go to the living room for some rest, okay?"
Primrose finally nodded in satisfaction. Her eyes were still a bit puffy from the fever, making her appear softer and gentler than usual. Joel gently ruffled her hair before turning to head back to the kitchen. He quickly decorated the dessert and then held out his hand to lead Primrose to the living room, where he settled her comfortably on the sofa.
"Here's your dessert, and here's some warm milk. If you want more, just call me, okay?"
Primrose softly nodded, her eyes widening with an obedient expression. It was as if all the prickly quills of a little hedgehog had disappeared, leaving behind only this adorable, gentle version of herself. Joel couldn't help but be overwhelmed with affection, wanting to step closer and kiss her until they were both breathless.
