Chapter 55: Chapter 55
After Primrose returned with a face that was both shy and gentle, she couldn't escape the interrogation of her best friend, Nancy.
"Primrose, tell me, how did that bad guy deceive you and make you come back with this expression?" Nancy asked. As she looked at Primrose and Joel, she couldn't believe her eyes and raised her eyebrows in surprise. Primrose used to maintain an icy and distant attitude towards Joel, so how could she disappear for two hours and come back looking so excited, as if she were immersed in love?
"He didn't deceive me; we misunderstood Joel and blamed him wrongly," Primrose replied with a dreamy look and a slight blush. She placed her handbag on the bed and then sat down, clearing her throat, before recounting the dramatic and emotional story to Nancy.
In the beginning, Nancy looked down on Primrose and thought she had been deceived by Joel's sweet and deceitful words. However, by the end, even Nancy was left astonished.
"No way? Why is everything so complicated? So, it turns out that all of this was caused by that shameless woman, Auntie?" Nancy couldn't help but mutter curses about Auntie, deploring her character and behavior a hundred times over in her heart. Primrose, on the other hand, remained much calmer and simply nodded.
"That's how it is. I feel that Joel was also a victim, so I don't want to compare anymore," Primrose explained. Nancy seemed to remember something at this point, and her eyes sparkled as she moved closer to Primrose, speaking with a hint of laughter.
"So, when do you plan to move back to Joel's place? Living together would be convenient for rekindling your relationship after so many days apart and longing for each other, right?"
Nancy's lack of formality was something Primrose had grown accustomed to, so she casually grabbed a thin blanket and covered herself with it before responding, "At the moment, I haven't decided to move back yet. I still need time to process all of this and figure out the depth of the feelings I have for him."
Misunderstandings had caused Primrose to avoid meeting Joel without taking the time to consider whether she had truly fallen in love with him or not. With a calm mind, she became confused and unsure of what to do.
"No worries, Primrose. Just take it easy and see how things unfold. Moreover, I can also feel that Joel cares for you and loves you deeply. Both of you might have mutual feelings," Nancy said, skillfully comforting Primrose, and it didn't take long for her to feel better. They talked until late into the night before finally drifting off to sleep, preparing for a new day of work.
The next day, as Primrose and Nancy arrived at the company, they heard the shocking news. The small media company they worked for had been acquired, and the CEO had been replaced by someone else.
Today was the day the new CEO would make an appearance, and he would attend the weekly department meeting. This unexpected change in the company's leadership left everyone stunned. It was surprising that a relatively successful company would be acquired, and even more unusual was the lack of changes in personnel or operations.
The only change was the CEO position, which had been given to someone else.
After hearing this news, Primrose and Nancy looked at each other in bewilderment, not understanding who this new CEO could be. Could it be someone with no business sense or just excessively wealthy, not knowing where to invest their money wisely?
Filled with surprise, they both entered the meeting room to attend the weekly media department meeting. Everyone in the media department seemed to share the same expression: a mix of astonishment and daze.
"Let's begin the meeting. The new CEO still has a board meeting to attend, and he will join us shortly," the head of the media department announced, trying to dispel the concerns and focus on work. After about fifteen minutes, while the meeting was still in progress, the door opened.
A man entered slowly. He had a tall figure and a handsome face, exuding a sense of aloofness. He wore gold-rimmed glasses, which added to his distant demeanor.
His thin lips were tightly pressed, his nose was straight, and his eyebrows were resolute. Everyone couldn't help but admire the new CEO's appearance.
However, Primrose wasn't overly impressed by his looks, as she was already familiar with them. Yes, the new CEO of her company was none other than her husband, Joel.
As Joel entered, he glanced casually at Primrose's seat, as if contemplating something, before quickly shifting his gaze elsewhere. He cleared his throat and calmly took his seat in the vacant chair reserved for him, speaking nonchalantly, "You probably already know, but I am the new CEO of this company. Today, I am joining this meeting to get an overview of the company and greet all of you, so no need to be tense."
With that, Joel signaled for the meeting to continue, maintaining his composed demeanor as he looked around the room. When his gaze fell on Primrose, a faint smile formed on his lips.
Primrose pretended to remain calm, but her heart was already in turmoil. Who could have expected that yesterday's cryptic words would lead to this? She gave Joel a stern look before trying to focus on the meeting, although it was hard to concentrate.
Today's meeting was mostly routine, with the department head inquiring about the progress of ongoing media projects and any issues they might be facing.
"Primrose, how is the current media project you're handling? Are there any problems?" The department head asked Primrose gently, as this was an important project for the company and he trusted her expertise.
Primrose also knew that she was highly regarded, so she answered with enthusiasm and seriousness. She reported the progress of the project and some of the achieved results. The department head was very pleased and encouraged her to keep up the good work.
"Good, that's it for the meeting. Joel, do you have anything else to add?" The department head asked Joel, who was sitting next to him, just before concluding the meeting. Joel casually cleared his throat and looked directly into Primrose's eyes.
"I don't have anything to add. Everyone can just naturally finish the meeting," Joel replied.
"But as the new CEO, I'm not familiar with the current media projects of the company, so I'd like the person in charge of this project to come to my office for a more detailed explanation. You're Primrose, right? Do you have time?" Joel maintained a cold and composed demeanor while he asked for more information.
Joel didn't reveal any ambiguity, but Primrose's heart was beating rapidly. She bit her lip and reluctantly agreed, inwardly scolding Joel. It was clear that he had no good intentions, yet he still appeared so straightforward.
The meeting ended, and Primrose followed Joel to his office, using the excuse of discussing the company's current media project. However, it was just a façade.
As soon as they entered the office, Joel quickly locked the door, put his hand on Primrose's waist, pulled her closer, and passionately kissed her lips.
"Primrose, do you remember your husband?"
