Chapter 52: Chapter 52

According to the plan, Primrose and Nancy were supposed to stay in country Y for a few more days, but ultimately, this plan couldn't be carried out. It seemed like Joel had said something, as Primrose's mother, July, had been calling her frequently to inquire about her current situation, making Primrose extremely tired.

On that evening, just after returning from the beach with Andrew and while Primrose was finishing removing her makeup, the phone rang right on time. It was her mother, July, calling. With Nancy eagerly waiting to hear the conversation, Primrose pressed her temple and answered the call.

"Primrose, what are you doing? Are you happy?" July spoke gently, her tone as slow and familiar as ever. However, Primrose couldn't help but be cautious because normally her mother never cared about where she went or what she did, and she rarely called to inquire about her current schedule.

But there was only one reason for this sudden change – Joel had asked for her help. Primrose sighed in exasperation. She never wanted her parents to get involved in this matter, as it would only complicate things further, but Joel had resorted to this method to meet her.

After chatting with her mother for a while, July finally sighed softly and said calmly, "Primrose, it's been a long time since you visited home, and your father and I miss you very much. When will you come back? Can you come over for dinner? Consider it a family reunion."

July was a gentle and noble mother, so her voice was always steady and slow, like flowing water and drifting clouds, showing no unfamiliar emotions. However, Primrose had long grown accustomed to her mother's personality and could only helplessly respond, "Yes, I will come home after I return. I will let you know in advance."

Primrose didn't mention Joel, and July didn't ask about him either, but between the two of them, there seemed to be a certain unspoken understanding. Joel would also be present at this dinner because it was a family gathering.

A family gathering meant that everyone in the family would gather together.

"Alright, then what do you want to eat? I'll ask the housekeeper to cook it for you," Primrose casually mentioned a few dishes, exchanged a few more words, and then hung up the phone. She placed the phone on the bed and lay down beside Nancy, feeling tired and exhausted.

"It seems to avoid this won't work anymore. At least for now, I can't avoid it for much longer," Primrose said with a sigh. Nancy, having heard the conversation earlier, had already understood the situation and knew that Primrose couldn't miss this dinner.

"It's okay. Consider this a chance to clarify and resolve everything. Your parents sided with Joel because they didn't know the bad things he had done. If they knew, I'm sure they would stand by your side and help you with a smoother divorce from Joel," Nancy said firmly, her lips slightly pursed in anger. Clearly, any good impressions she once had of Joel had long vanished, and now she saw him as a bad guy. Primrose let out a light exhale, realizing that this was probably the best way to handle things.

Perhaps still preoccupied with her emotional turmoil, Primrose's state of mind was not too good the next day. She often looked off into the distance with uncertainty. Nancy couldn't fully enjoy the trip either, so in the end, they both decided to return home earlier than planned.

Before boarding the plane, Primrose conveniently sent a text to July, telling her that she would come home for dinner. July happily agreed and even said she wanted to send the family's private driver to pick up Primrose. Primrose didn't refuse, as she didn't want to drive by herself at night.

"Don't look so downcast anymore. You are about to break free from that terrible man and the suffocating marriage. A bright future is waiting ahead," Nancy comforted her gently, and Primrose nodded before dozing off as soon as she got on the plane.

Everything should be put to an end soon. The prolonged entanglement was wearing everyone out.

That evening, Primrose chose a grey, figure-hugging dress that made her steps light and graceful. Since she was going back home, Primrose didn't bother with elaborate makeup like she usually did. She only put on a light touch to freshen up her face and applied a not-too-bold shade of red lipstick.

Perhaps due to the recent carefree days, Primrose's mood was relatively good, at least she didn't appear completely indifferent. Nancy admired her when she saw Primrose finishing her makeup.

Primrose happily accepted the compliment, bid goodbye to Nancy, and said, "Alright, I have to go home and put an end to the troubles of these past few days. Wait for good news, okay?"

Nancy followed suit, wishing that Primrose wouldn't be bothered by that terrible man anymore. Primrose swayed her skirt cheerfully and left. She had already given Nancy's address to July for the family's private driver to pick her up.

Primrose didn't think too much, but when she saw the familiar black Rolls Royce waiting in front of Nancy's house, she couldn't help but frown slightly. Without guessing, she knew who it was.

Joel seemed to have quickly noticed Primrose's presence, as he swiftly got out of the car and kindly opened the passenger door for her.

"You changed your job these past few days? From a CEO to becoming a private driver for my family, quite a decline," Primrose said with an unfriendly tone. However, Joel didn't react at all, acting as if he didn't hear Primrose's sarcastic words, remaining calm and gentle.

"I wanted to come to pick you up, so I asked your mother for the address. If you don't like it, I can leave," he replied.

Joel's appearance seemed even more disheveled than their last encounter, with darker circles under his eyes, and his face exuded a rare melancholy, making his voice hoarse. Primrose suddenly didn't feel like continuing to argue, as Joel's demeanor was too good, too gentle, making her feel unnatural every time she tried to provoke him. Moreover, she also felt like she was bullying him.

"Fine, drive on. I'm tired," she said.

During the journey, the two didn't exchange a word. Primrose didn't want to communicate with Joel, and he didn't dare to initiate a conversation either. He feared that saying the wrong thing might make Primrose hate him even more, and he would lose all chances to find her again. The sudden feeling of not being able to locate Primrose and the fear of living without her made Joel extremely anxious.

As they reached Primrose's house, Joel wanted to get out of the car to help her open the door, but she had already done it herself and walked in ahead. He had no other choice but to follow behind, maintaining a distance that Primrose wouldn't find annoying.

Seeing the two entering one after the other, July sighed but didn't say anything to advise them. She saw the helpless expression in Joel's eyes and remained silent. As usual, she came to Primrose and asked with a gentle smile, "Did you have a good trip, Primrose? I've seen your photos, and it seems like you really enjoyed the trip."
