Chapter 50: Chapter 50

'I know I said bring your boss/lover over for dinner but I met someone and we're going to be spending a week in Paris getting to know each other... I'm over the moon. I think he might ask me to marry him. So please Let's reschedule ok'. Sophia read the message for the hundredth time shaking her head.

"Oh my gosh, not this again, but at least she'll stop bothering me while her new flame is still burning hot."

Her phone pinged and she read through the text that was sent by Bianca.

'End of the month party at your house tonight. Don't complain, cause you have a lot of cash that you don't spend, and also this party is low-key to celebrate you and Lennox getting together, so set everything up.

"Is she serious or tripping, and using my relationship with Lennox, that is desperate much" she said but she was grinning, because she loved the idea. "I gotta make calls or else this party would be the most boring ever".

******

The party turned out pretty great, and Sophia walked around saying hi to everyone that her friends had managed to invite from the company, including her old team who never seemed to miss out on any social gatherings.

Sophia walked over to her friends.

"So what do you think? Does it lives up to your expectations".

Bianca grinned as she tossed her drinks back. "More than lives up to it. This is the best house party ever. I'm having a blast and all my workmates are here and there's alcohol, what in the world am I going to complain about" she yelled over the music.

Sophia punched the air. "Yes! I'm a freaking genius".

"You definitely are" Sana hyped as she got up from her seat. "Oliver is out back, gotta go see if he needs anything".

"Yeah, run along to baby your boss" Bianca teased and Sana just rolled her eyes as she stalked off. "Y'all are so in love and it's so cringe. Where's Lennox. I mean Andria has been pressed up against Jonathan ever since we got here so I don't need to find her, but I haven't seen Lennox since I got here. You're throwing the party in his name and giving everyone presents so where's he".

"Something came up so he can't make it," she said and shrugged. "It doesn't matter tho, cause I already made provisions for his presents".

Bianca smirked. "Well I guess that's that. So how does it feels to be dating Lennox".

"Shh," Sophia glanced around to see if anyone had heard her. "You can't just blurt that around cause we're kind of going low profile".

"You deserve better than low profile, if he asked you to do that, you should dump his ass," Bianca said, her voice hardening.

"I was the one who told him to" she confessed.

"Oh! Oh. But why".

Sophia sighed. "Cause I don't want people to start gossiping about me or giving me looks, or start assuming that I got this position by sucking his dick," she said and slammed her hand against her mouth in shock as Bianca stared wide-eyed at her. "I haven't done that yet".

"Ah! Yet... I get it, you don't need to elaborate".".

"No that's not what I meant...I'm serious" she choked out and Bianca would have teased her further but a lady was approaching them. They both turned to face Jenny Mark who gave them a sour appraising look.

Bianca turned her champagne flute upside down. "Whoops, I think I ran out of alcohol. I'm going to go get more and leave you two to talk" she said, nodded to herself, and walked off.

Jenny watched her unflinchingly, her lips twisted in a grimace.

Sophia forced a smile, clenching her wine glass and trying to sound polite because she hadn't remembered inviting outsiders to the party, but then maybe she had a friend at the company who in turn invited her. "Hi, Jenny. What do I owe this visit"

She shouted above the music and Jenny looked like she'd slit her own throat before she raised her voice above the noise. Sophia fought her eyes from rolling.

"I came to talk." She got out, her voice barely audible over the music. Sophia sighed, almost sure of the direction the impetus discussion was going to go, and motioned for her as she made her way out of the house until she found a quiet spot for them to talk.

Sophia turned to face Jenny who still looked grim. "We're here, so say what you have to".

"You know why I'm here" she stated.

Sophia shrugged. "Maybe, but I don't want to make assumptions so if you have something to say just go for it. I'm missing out on having a great time as is, so If you..."

"Break off whatever you have with Lennox" she cut in.

Sophia stared at her. "Excuse me".

"You heard what I said, and I won't be repeating myself because you're not worth the effort".

Sophia scoffed, muttering under her breath as she stepped closer to Jenny. "I don't know who you think you are but I will not stand here and have you disrespect me in my own house so I'd like it if you speak to me a bit more nicely, and oh, about your request, I won't be able to grant it. I'm not going to break up with Lennox because I love him and I don't care what you think or have to say. You know what, I don't even want you here, so you should go".

Jenny's eyes widened, her iris swirling with rage. "How dare you speak to me in that manner. Do you know who I am".

"I don't give a fuck who you are".

Jenny sputtered, then seemed to take hold of her emotions, her gaze chilly than the air that howled around them. "You must be riding such a wave because you managed to hook your little money snatching claws into Lennox but that will all change once his mother finds out about you two and I'll have you know that it won't be pretty, so you better take my advice now before it's too late".

Sophia smirked, crossing her arms. "I'm not bothered about anything Jenny, or do you see me trembling over here. I and Lennox will solve our problems, because it's ours, not yours and for my money-grabbing claws, Lennox is over the moon to have it in him. You've overstayed your welcome, leave".

Jenny's face turned red and Sophia could almost see the steam coming out of her ears as she clenched her dainty fingers. Jenny exhaled, and gently pushed her hair back, her face grave after the act.

"I'm speechless Sophia. You have guts and I love that but you're barking up the wrong tree and if you're not careful enough, you might end up falling and breaking your pretty little neck" she said, a thin smile stretching across her lips. "Consider this a fair warning," she said, turned, and walked away from her.

Sophia stared after her, hating that she'd got away with the last word, and also dared to threaten to hurt her If she didn't do what she'd said. It took a lot to faze Sophia but she'd paid attention while jenny had been rambling off her nonsense and something told her that Jenny was dangerous. The look in her eyes was too chilling. It was almost as if she was considering murdering her if a lot of people hadn't been around. There was something off about Jenny Mark and she planned to find out what it was.
