Chapter 35: Chapter 35
: Snap
→ Narrator: Asa
Jemi snapped.
He hissed loudly, standing up and going to disconnect the music from the speaker, successfully ending our drunken night party.
"Will you stop that?!" He growled angrily, walking up to Kosi and snatching her away from Devon, glaring at her.
Jemi honestly looked like he was on fire. His face, red, hands fisted, making the muscles and veins of his arms bulge.
Kosi concealed her shock, frowning in annoyance, folding her hands. "Uh... Stop what?"
He gritted his teeth. "Stop acting like a goddamn slut!"
There was a collective gasp around the room. Everyone stopped, confused about what to do.
Kosi flinched, immediately masking her hurt with anger and taking a threatening step towards him, her voice, a strangled whisper. "What did you just call me?"
I stood up, trying to ease the tension. "C'mon, Kay. Don't take him seriously." I turned to Jemi. "Jem, it's just a game."
"Prolly like everything else in life is a game to her. I bet my feelings are a game to you too, huh?"
Oh shit! Is he really going to do this?
Right now?!
I started panicking, looking for a way to control this before it gets out of hand and he says things he doesn't mean.
"Bro-" Jordan tried to reach out to him.
"Stay out of this, Dan!" He growled, shooting him a glare before turning back to look at Kosi.
"Fucking Christ, Jem!" Kosi screamed at him. "Is that what this is about? I told you from the jump that I felt nothing, Jemi. Nothing!"
"You fucking liar. Was that before or after you fucked me, huh?!"
His words cut through the entire room and everyone glanced at each other, drunk, confused and nervous.
He was breathing heavily, his fisted hands shaking at his sides, formerly golden complexion, turning red in furious anger.
He's not himself. I realized. Jemi...
My heart rose to my throat as I swallowed down the growing lump.
Kosi took a shaky breath, her breathing laboured, trying to control her temper, purposely keeping the anger and hurt from her voice. "That was supposed to stay between the both of us. Be reasonable, Jemi."
"Fucking think, Kosi!" He shot, getting in her face. "How do you expect me to be reasonable huh?" His voice was a heart broken whisper, eyes, glassy with repressed tears. "Fucking hell! fuck!" He shouted, gripping his hair. "You know! You know exactly what you're doing to me! And you want me to be reasonable? Just fucking listen to yourself right now! Fucking me one moment and basically humping and tonguing down some other guy in front of me, like what the fuck were you thinking? I wouldn't lose my shit?!"
"Can you not act like this? Geez! I told you from the beginning that there was never going to be anything between us and you agreed! Don't turn around and put the blame all on me!"
Jemi laughed. A bitter, sarcastic chuckle that honestly made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. "God. God." He sighed, chuckling, like Kosi was being ludicrous. "You... Oh my God. Can you stop acting like a whore for one goddamn moment?"
There was silence everywhere. It felt like a slap on the face. Everyone knew how much Kosi hated being called a whore. Everyone...
Especially Jemi.
Kosi stumbled back, as if she just got shot in the heart, anger erupting out of her. "Do NOT call me that!"
Jemi barked out a harsh laghter. "Oh, and why shouldn't I? It's the fucking truth and you know it! It hurts, right? But you can't hide from it. Acting like the thirsty whore everyone says you are-"
The sound of her palm, colliding with his cheek, ricochetted throughout the room.
"I said, do NOT call me that!" She seethed, chest, rising as she glared at him in furious anger.
Jemi shot her a heated look, laughing sarcastically. "Truth hurts doesn't it."
"Well, I hope this truth hurts you even more. I feel nothing!" She stressed the words purposely. "You are nothing to me, Jemide Cashiel DaSilva! Do you hear me? Nothing!"
Her voice cracked at the end. She was fighting down a sob.
"And I don't give two fucks anymore! Go on and fuck every guy you want! I swear, I don't care anymore. You're just selfish and thirsty. Acting like your own goddam mothe-"
Slap!
She slapped him again, even harder than the first time, his face whipping to the right, in the direction he just got slapped in.
There were tears rolling down her cheeks. "Shut up! Shut up! Shut the fuck up!"
"Or what?" He yelled back at her, his eyes going red, with suppressed emotions. "For goodness sake, what the fuck else can you do to me, huh? You've already fucked me up and now you want your next victim!"
"Devon is not my victim!" She growled.
"Well, it looks that way to me. You don't want anything serious with him but you're successfully leading him on even when it's clear as day that he's fucking nuts over you. And then, you're just going to screw him and pretend like nothing happened like the fucking coward you are!"
Kosi was crying now, angry tears, streaming down her cheeks. Lola moved to hold her but she held her palm up, ordering her to stop.
"That's not what's going to happen, Jem and you know it! It's not even as if there's anything going on between you and I. There was never anything going between us, it was just sex."
Jemi froze, staring at her with a mixture of shock and hurt. There was silence for a moment, eyes wide in shock, anger, frustration.... Hurt.
"Just sex? That's all it was to you?"
Kosi's breathing was laboured and harsh. "Fuck yes, that's all it was! I told you! It was meant to be a one time thing."
Anger and wrath bubbled over inside him, spilling out in a loud guttural cry. "Fuck, I bared my soul to you, Kosi. I fucking told you how I felt! It wasn't just sex to me!"
"Oh my God!" She groaned, holding her hair. "I don't care!"
There was silence for a moment, and Jemi just stared at her, his face slack with shock, and then, it hardened in anger. His voice was as cold and hard as ice. "Spoken like a true whore."
She lunged at him, but Devon acted fast, capturing her in his grasp.
"No!" She struggled in his as, crying, kicking and screaming. "Let me go! I swear! I'm gonna kick his fucking ass!"
"Fuck you, Kosi!"
"Guy! Chill!" Kam moved to touch his shoulder but Jemi gripped his collar, shoving him against a wall.
"Don't fucking touch me!" He snarled, his grip on Kam's collar, tight.
Fear bubbled in my throat as I went to stand between them. "Jemi, please stop this." Gently Imploring him to let Kam go.
"Look, we're all drunk and you obviously don't mean a word you're saying." I whispered softly.
"I meant everything I said, goddammit!" Kosi shouted, still trying to struggle out of Devon's arms. "For fucksake, let me go, Devon! He needs some honest-to-God bitchslapping."
Jemi shot Kosi an angry look. "I'm done with this shit!" He growled, storming out of the room.
"Wait wait?! He's leaving?" She asked, sarcastic shock on her face. "Motherfucker is leaving? Where the fuck is he going?!" She bit down on Devon's arm, causing him to yelp and release her. "No, no! Don't go o! Come finish what you started."
But Jemi paid no attention to her
She stamped out of the room like a freaking hailstorm, marching up to her room screaming about how she hated his guts and how she didn't want to see his face again.
I watched sadly, gut clenching and twisting, my heart, breaking by the second.
*
"I guess we should get going." Sahar muttered sadly to me.
Kosi had grown tired from yelling and screaming and had retreated to her room, locking herself in.
Jemi came out minutes later, taking Jordan's car keys with him.
"Hey! Don't crash my baby!" Jordan called after him.
Jemi responded, by shoving the finger at him, not even looking in his direction.
"We're sorry for any problems." I apologized to Sahar. Devon kept glancing worriedly in the direction Kosi stormed off to.
It warmed my heart that he was still concerned about her after everything that just happened.
"Asa, we've got no qualms with ya." Sahar laughed, playfully shoving me a little. "Shit happens, okay." She clucked her tongue. "Too bad, Jemi couldn't make an honest fan out of me. I thought he was a really great guy."
"He is, Sahar... He is." I whispered, my heart twisting, when I rembered everything that just happened. "It's just... He's just heartbroken, Sahar... He's a great guy."
"He's in love with his best friend, Asa. I never stood a chance."
"Plenty more fish in the ocean?"
She only smiled wistfully at me, before tugging on her brother's hand. "Come, Dev. Let's go." She whispered, downcast.
Before he left, Devon bade all the guys goodbye. Turning to look at me, he thrust a piece of paper into my hands.
I looked at it, realizing he had scrawled his number on it.
"Text me when she comes around. I need to know she's alright." He said, urgently.
"Sure." I smiled at him as Sahar pulled him away.
