Chapter 23: Chapter 23

: Attack

→Narrator: Asa

"Oh, you will be, when I'm done with you. I can put that snarky little mouth of yours to good use. Let's see what you can do with my dick in it."

I shivered a bit at Teriq's very offensive words. The look in his eyes... That maniacal glint in them was something I've seen before... On another.

But before I could recover from the effect of his words, Kam lunged at him, grabbing a fistful of his shirt, right hand poised but restrained from landing him a good punch on his left cheek.

His entire body was quaking with anger but Teriq only had on this amused, almost taunting grin, even though he was the one at the receiving end of a right hook.

"Now, listen and listen good, motherfucker." Kam growled lowly, his voice, sending shivers down my spine, raising the hair on my skin. I've never seen Kam this angry before...

And it kind of scared me.

All around us, the music had stopped, a small crowd, already gathering around us, eager to be entertained at our expense.

"I have no fucking clue how you talk to the women in your family, but Asa is my fucking girl and you need to fucking respect her."

He was livid. Breathing ragged and I know it was taking everything in him not to land a perfect punch on Teriq's smug face.

Teriq only retorted mockingly. "Listen, Kam. Asa be a low-key bad bitch. And bad bitches need trainin'. Which is what I'm tryna do. She don't need yo' mixed-race ass, you already pussy whipped, eating out of her damn palms. She need a real nigga, dawg, you ain't hood enough."

Jeezus, Teriq was asking for a beating but luckily for him, Kam was very good at restraining himself even though I can bet with everything I've got that all he wanted to do was beat Teriq to a bloody pulp.

As if that wasn't enough, Teriq suddenly guffawed and hollered at me. "Am I right, mami? You wanna be my bitch and gobble up this D, right?"

Oh my God.

I literally saw Kam go fuck it, and unapologetically smash his fist into Teriq's face.

I watched as Teriq crumpled helplessly to the ground and Kam followed suit, jumping on him and pummeling him into the ground.

I was shocked for a moment, my heart crawling into my throat when two of Teriq's guys lifted Kam up by the hand and held him in place. Teriq stumbled till he was standing, a lopsided grin on his face.

"You asked for this, bitch!" He proclaimed, slamming a fist into Kam's stomach.

I screamed in horror, watching him double over in pain.

"Stop!" I screeched, tears, blurring my vision. "Stop, please!"

I lunged at them, desperate to do something... Anything to help Kam, but somebody's hands wrapped around my waist, pulling me back and stopping me from going to my destination.

"Leave me, alone! Let me go!" I struggled.

"Calm down, Asa." Amir murmured softly into my ears, trying to soothe me.

"No!" I struggled, trying to get out of his arms. "Kam! He needs my help!"

"Doubt you'd be of much help, princess."

I glared at him, causing him to chuckle softly.

"He has help already." He jerked his chin towards Kam.

I looked to the direction and saw that Jordan, Jemi and Dave had suddenly appeared, shoving the boys holding on to Kam away from him as they took their stand beside him.

I sighed in relief when I saw one of Teriq's guys holding Teriq back in a deadlock- what was his name? Devin? Devontae!-  while he tried to struggle out of his tight hold.

"Tee, stop! We don't want any problem with these guys. They're just here to have fun. You need to calm the fuck down!" Devontae said to Teriq who was quickly losing momentum.

Teriq finally wrenched himself free of Devontae's grasp, glaring one last time at Kam before sauntering away with a few of his guys.

The music came back on and the crowd dissipated slowly, the tension, already leaving the atmosphere.

"Sorry about that. My cousin is a little too much to handle." Devon said to Kam with an apologetic look on his handsome face.

"Don't be sorry." Kam answered gruffly, shooting a livid gaze at the corner Teriq just turned into. "I'm not sorry for hitting him. Wanted to do him some major damage before these guys showed up." He glared at Jordan, Jemi, Amir and Dave.

The fact that Kam wanted to inflict more pain on Teriq, didn't sit well with me. I hated violence. Yes, I could stand up for myself and not shy away from a confrontation, but I would never advocate violence.

Kam... The look he had in his face while he completely pummeled Teriq... That livid sneer, that glare filled with so much loathe... It scared me. For the first time since I knew him, I was afraid of what Kam could do.

He turned to me, now and I struggled to remember the Kam I knew and loved in those eyes... But all I saw was venom and hate.

"He shouldn't have disrespected Asa."

Those eyes... A face flashed in my mind.

I love you, Selene.

I closed my eyes, feeling my heart rate accelerating, my breathing, off.

No... Not here... I can't have a panic attack here.

Bright spots danced in front of my eyes and I swayed on my feet.

"Woah!" Someone caught me. "Are you okay, princess?" Shook me a little when I didn't respond.

I felt like throwing up again.

"Asa!" I heard Kam's voice, worried and concerned. "Are you okay?"

He reached out to me but I flinched away from him.

Don't run away from me, Selene. I will find you.

Oh God!

I started hyperventilating.

"Asa, what's wrong?" Kam asked alarmed, surprised I was moving away from him.

The rest of the gang had gathered around me, I saw Jemi and Kosi gazing worriedly at me. Even that Devontae guy looked concerned.

"Just..." I gulped in air. "Just leave me alone for a moment, Kam... I need a second."

"Well, why do you want me away from you?" He reached out to me again. I moved away, my heart thudding inside me.

You can't have a boyfriend, Selene. You are mine. MINE! No one else's.

I held my head in my hands, whimpering. Get out. Get out. Get out of my head.

Mine!

The voice sounded so close. So damn close in my head, it felt like he was here.

"Are you... Afraid of me?" Kam asked, incredulous but hurt. "Asa, what is it?"

"It's nothing, Kam... I just need... I just need some water."

"I'll take her." Kosi decided, taking my arm. "We can find Lola and all go home together after that."

Kam looked like he wanted to protest. The sad, dejected look in his eyes tore at my heart... But I couldn't be around him right now... I didn't want him seeing me like this. I couldn't stand being such a mess around him.

"Amir, you should go with them, since she's perfectly fine with you holding her and not me, her own boyfriend."

It was then I noticed that Amir's hands were still around my waist.

"Kam, no-"

"It's okay, Asa." Kam whispered. There was an understanding look in his eyes. "I know I triggered something again. I'm sorry, I should know better than acting like a damn animal."

Oh Kam!

This boy was perfect... In everything... Someone as perfect as him was in love with me. How did I ever get so lucky?

"Thanks Kam. I... I love you."

His eyes softened as he gazed at me, lovingly. "I love you, Asa."

"Kam, I doubt Asa wants me babysitting her. She should be fine with the girls." Amir calmly negated, his hands still around me, protectively, like he thought I'd fall if he left me.

"I need to cool off before heading home and I can't be around her when I'm like this." Kam told him. "Take care of her, Amir. I know she'll be safe with you. If anything happens to her, I'll never forgive myself."

His eyes seemed to have a quiet conversation with Amir. "Can I trust you with her, Amir?"

There was silence for a moment as they stared at each other as if engaged in a silent battle.

Amir replied after exhaling a frustrated breath. "Yeah."
