Chapter 64: Chapter 64

Amy and Charles walk up to Evelyn and Sonya where they were sitting not far from the party's venue. Evelyn stood up on seeing Charles.

"i thought you had things to attend to" she said and saw Amy behind him. she wave her hand sightly at her.

"Evelyn right? I've heard a lot about you" she said.

"is that so, its nice to finally meet you" Evelyn replied.

"you don’t have to pretend you like me i know you don’t and i know i deserve it"

"i have something to say to the both of you" Amy said facing both Evelyn and Sonya. then she told them about why she made Sonya go with her to the wedding five years ago and also why she tried to break Evelyn's relationship with her brother.

"i am so sorry and i will do whatever to redeem my mistake and i hope you wont hate me and my brother for this"

"i don’t know how heavy what you did is but i don’t hate you" Sonya replied.Evelyn was still trying to process everything when Amy saw that she was already connected to listen to their conversation. she has requested the other day that she want to hear from kelvin herself that she was deceived.

"what is it?" Charles asked her. she whispered to his ear to inform him.

"we can just listen to it with them. is not like they are stranger" he said and Amy ask them all to sit and place the device on the table in front of everyone and press a button

"explain everything that happened back then" they heard maxwell's voice and continued to listen. after listening for a while, all of them except Amy were shocked.

"so if not for Maxwell she would have been dead by now" Sonya thought and shiver at the thought.

"that idiot, how dare he say that about my dad. his dad was foolish and greed and end up killing himself and now his son also, set of stupid family" Evelyn said angrily as they continue to listen then they heard what kelvin said at the end about Sonya and they look around in fear.

"i think we should go back now. i believe he is just flaunting but we need to be careful" Charles said and they stood up to leave. Sonya took her phone and called Tom but his number was busy. she put her phone in her purse.

"lets go the car is parked not far away. am sure its best if we go together" she said and they walk toward where the car is. Tom also walk up to meet them and quickly open the car for them.

"ma'am, we need to get back now"

"i know lets go" she replied. then Sonya heard someone call her name and turn back to see who it was. Her vision was not clear but it looks like the same guy she saw in the restroom. immediately she turn to see him clearly, he fired a gun towards her. everyone also turned and before Sonya could react Evelyn rush to her front and the bullet hit her back. she fell on Sonya. Sonya held her in shock. when the guy saw that he missed his target, he fire another one again but could not target well as Tom charge towards him. Sonya push Evelyn away and the second shot hit her on her shoulder. Charles and Amy who were already in the car rush towards the both of them and held Sonya from falling. Charles went to Evelyn on the floor and tried to carry her up but his hand was trembling. tears fall from his eyes freely. Amy quickly took a phone she saw on the floor and called the ambulance. Maxwell got there and saw his car on the road. he park roughly beside it and got out of the car. he tremble when he saw blood and rush to Sonya.

"Sonya, Sonya" he called desperately. Sonya open her eyes when she heard his voice and point to Evelyn. Maxwell look at his other side and saw his sister. he move to her and carried her up from the floor.

"Evelyn, what happened to you?" he asked confused. then he felt something wet on his hand, he check it and it was blood. he scream loudly and panicked. just then the ambulance arrived and took them away to the hospital. Maxwell and Charles followed them while Amy drove the car there.

Maxwell whole body was restless he stare at her he hands trembled seeing the blood on her he didn't even realize his hands were stained with blood his heartbeat raced rapidly as he watch her struggling with the pain and his heart felt the pain, in no time they got to the hospital and they were rushed to the ICU Maxwell stayed behind with Charles staring at the closed door in front of them. Amy arrived there very soon and join them. they waited outside as they begin operation on the both of them. after few hours the doctor came out to inform them about Sonya.

"she is fine now. she got hit on her shoulder but she is okay now. she will be moved to a room now" the doctor said and leaves them.then Sonya was wheeled out. Maxwell held her hand and hesitated.

"don’t worry i will go with her. you should stay here and wait for Evelyn" Charles said and left with them. Maxwell sat down dejectedly and tiredly. Amy sat down beside and touch his shoulders.

"am sorry, i didn't know he has another plan. am sure she will be fine" she said.

they continue waiting for a while before the door open and the doctor came out. Maxwell and Amy sprang to their feet instantly and rush towards him.

"Mr Hart, she is out of danger now. luckily it did not hit her in a delicate place so its alright and we already called all our best doctors. so there is no need to worry" he told them.

"get the best doctor in the whole country for the both of them and make sure everything is perfectly fine. i want to hear she will be okay i want to hear they are okay" he said a little loud. the doctor quickly nod his head to indicate that he understands and went away....after getting to know that Joyce already quit and is no longer following their plan and Sonya is also not ready to see him, he decide to go see her himself. hHewent over to her apartment but it was locked. he waited for her there and when there was no sign she was coming soon he decide to leave. then loveth came and met him on the way. they both stopped and look at each other with a mixed feeling.

"its been a while" Simon said but loveth ignore him and wanted to walk away but he held her back.

"what is it? i have something to do" she said and shove his hand off.

"do you by any chance know where Sonya is?"

"i don’t know at all. you are her cousin shouldn't you know"

"she is not in the house and i tried contacting her and Evelyn but none of them is picking"

"today is the company's thirtieth anniversary celebration maybe they are still there"

"no i checked there already and they are not" he replied. loveth was surprised and quickly open her phone to check for news online.

"what are you doing?"

"news will be uploaded about anything that happens during the ceremony" sh answered.

"found it, the Hart's only daughter was shot by unknown gunman and has been sent to the hospital but her condition is still unknown" she read.

"oh my god! i need to get there now" she said and rush to get a cab.

"calm down i will get you to the hospital" he said and they entered Simon's car and head to the hospital. they arrive there in no second. they went in and ask for her but they were not allowed in. just then Micheal walk in and they were allowed in with him.

"you are here for Sonya right?" he asked.

"Sonya? did something happen to her?"

"i guess you don’t know yet but she was also shot" he informed them.

"what?" Simon yelled and held him.

"how come she was shot? what were you guys doing?" He screamed

"you better calm down or you wont get to see her. loveth you can go first" he said.

"lets talk" he told and lead him to a corner.

"what do you want to talk to me about?"

"am sure you know Joyce" he said

"am her brother. and i heard about how you tried to use her to break Maxwell's relationship with Sonya" he said and continue....

Simon left Micheal and went to where Sonya is. he entered and met Amy with her.

"where are you here?" he asked Amy.

"i will leave now since you are here" she said instead and walk out. Simon move near her bed and sat down beside her. he held her hand and kissed them. then he rest his head on the side of the bed.

"i must have lost my mind to think of hurting you at all am so sorry" he murmured. after some time, Sonya opened her eyes and look away. she saw Simon beside her and thought it was Maxwell. she touch his hair slowly and rub her hand on his.

"Maxwell" she called gently. Simon wake up on hearing her voice. Sonya saw it was him and remove her hand from his hair.

"are you feeling okay?' he asked eagerly.

"where is Maxwell?" she asked. Simon keep quiet not saying anything. Sonya turn her face to the other side.

"he is with his sister" he answered slowly.

"what happened? how did you get hurt?"

"is Evelyn awake?" she asked worriedly and tried sitting up as she remembered.

"i don’t know, but am sure a lot of specialist doctors will be attending to her right now but look, no one is here with you. you are in this situation because of them"

"stop it. Evelyn got shot because of me okay, she took the bullet in my place and Maxwell must be with her because she needs him as her brother" she snapped at him.

"i don’t mean it that way.." he tried to explain but was interrupted by doctors and nurse who came in to attend to her and ask Simon to step aside. they examine her and ask her some things.

"Mr Maxwell is on his way here so if there is anywhere you feel uncomfortable please do ring the bell to let us know immediately" the doctor in charge said and they all left.

"listen Sonya i.."

"you don’t have to explain. i know you don’t mean it in a bad way and all this is because you care for me but i also care about this people and they care about me too. am no more a kid am grown up and old enough to choose who i want to be with. i cant reciprocate your feelings back but you will always be my sweet cousin always" she said and hugged him. just then Maxwell open the door and entered. he walk up to them and Simon stood up.

"am leaving now. i will keep in touch with you on the phone" he said and walk out.

"we were just talking about something and i hugged him because..."

"you don’t need to explain to me its fine"

""really? are you sure you don’t want to know"

"seeing that you are still in the mood to hug someone then i guess you are alright"

"of course am a strong girl. a little wound on the shoulder is nothing and i also guess Evelyn is okay seeing that you are relaxed" she also said. Maxwell sigh heavily and hugged her tightly.

"am so sorry. i thought i had everything under control" he said and bury his face in her other shoulder.

"its fine. i was the one who disobeyed you and stayed back" she said and place her hand on his back.
