CHAPTER 22

“ Pulse!” John exclaimed rushing to where he was lying. Hudson and Blink did the same. Squatting before Pulse, John turned him over, only to his chest bleeding.

“ He has been shot” He muttered to himself, his heart beat increasing in fear as it was hitting hard against his chest.

“ No. I can’t loose Pulse…not again” He mumbled under his breath.

Pulse was John’s best buddy since they were little. In short, they both attended the same military school. After both of them got ousted out of the military after the truth about them being mutants came out, the two best friends took it upon themselves to save as many mutants as they could. But unfortunately, on a rescue mission, Pulse got buried together with the collapsing building. Thinking he was dead and devastated, John left.

Unknown to him, the Sentinels arrived almost immediately, digging Pulse out and after attending to his wound, the took control over him.

“ We need to treat his wound as soon as possible, he is bleeding a lot” John said and Hudson remembered something immediately.

“ Alvara” He exclaimed making John and Blink turn to him.

“ Alvara can heal him, she….she has the ability” Hudson said.

“ What?”

“ Really?” John asked.

“ Yeah. I remember when my Dad was shot, she was the one whole healed his wound completely that one could hardly believe he was shot” Hudson revealed and John beamed.

“ We should head to the Underground right away” He muttered, swinging Pulse off the ground, carrying him on his shoulder.

“ Blink” He called giving her a “ you know what to do” look.

“ What about Polaris and eclipse? We can’t leave them behind”

“ Don’t worry, I’ll go help them out. You both go ahead” Hudson offered.

“ Will you be alright?” John asked, kicking against leaving them.

“ Yeah, I will. Besides our powers are back” Hudson assured.

“ Ok. Make sure to call if you need our help” John said as Blink created a portal and she and John stepped in before it closes up. Hudson ran off, heading to where the latter was.

Few minutes after Blink and John appeared inside the Underground, Polaris, Eclipse and Hudson arrived too. Rushing in together with the 4 other mutants they rescued, they met with John who has laid Pulse on a long couch. Hudson ran upstairs immediately.

On getting to their room, he didn’t see Alvara.

“ Fuck, where is she” He cursed rushing downstairs before heading to the garden. He pulled a brake on his leg when he saw Alvara and Maverick together. His heart skipped in pain on what he saw.

From the side he was viewing them, it was as if Alvara and Maverick were kissing while in reality, they were just going through the book Maverick brought. Sadness clouded Hudson’s heart and face. He didn’t even realize when he clenched his fist and his jaw tightened in anger.

When he couldn’t bear looking at the two of them, he rushed to them.

“ Alvara” He snapped making Maverick and Alvara look up. Seeing it was Hudson, Alvara almost hissed before looking back to the book.

Hudson glared angrily at Maverick as his jaw tightened the more. Only God knows that deep down, he wanted smitten his lips flat with a hot burner for kissing his Alvara.

Exhaling, he spoke up.

“ Alvara your presence is needed inside” He said and Alvara looked up.

“ Is there a problem?” She raised a brow at him.

“ Yes and your help is needed. Someone’s life is in danger” Hudson answered and on hearing that Alvara sprang up her feet.

“ Who’s in danger?” Maverick asked, standing too. Hudson glared at him almost hissing before turning back to Alvara.

“ Ok let’s go” Alvara said and they all ran inside. On getting inside, Alvara stopped on seeing everyone gathered around, worry written on their faces.

“ What happened?” She decided to ask and on hearing her voice, everyone turned.

“ Thank goodness you’re here” John heaved on seeing her.

“ What happened?”

“ Hudson told us that have the ability to heal wounds. Can you actually do that?” John asked.

“ Yes I can” Alvara replied and everyone beamed in hope.

“ Pulse over here has been shot in the chest, can you do something?” John’s eyes flashed in hope. Alvara walked over to the couch and John stood up for her to sit beside Pulse. Examining the wound carefully, Alvara’s face dropped.

“ Can you heal him?” Polaris voice came up and Alvara looked up.

“ I can try but…..” The tension holding everyone increased on them hearing the but.

“ His wound is deep. I.. don’t.. think he can survive” Alvara said and everyone’s heart, including John’s skipped in fear.

“ But you can try, right?” John asked trying not to loose faith.

“ I can try” Alvara muttered, slowly closing her eyes. Placing her hand on Pulse’s chest, everyone watched in anticipation as a blue emitted Alvara’s palm and shone on Pulse’s chest. The bullet flew out immediately startling everyone.

The blood surrounding the wound started drying up and the wound itself closed up completely. By the time was done, everybody present dropped their jaw’s open in dismay except for Hudson.

“ Wow” John mumbled as Alvara opened her eyes.

“ Will he open his eyes?” Hudson asked.

“ I don’t know” Alvara replied with a sad sigh. Everyone present was staring eagerly at Pulse, praying and hoping he opens his eyes. But unfortunately, he didn’t.

“ Erm, John, I don’t think he will open his eyes anytime soon. Maybe he needs time to rest” Blink spoke up.

“ I might go with what Blink said. He’s still unconscious but the good news is that he’s breathing” Alvara said.

“ Ok. I’ll…take him to the emergency unit then” John said carrying Pulse off the couch.

“ I’ll come with you” Eclipse offered and John nodded, heading to the emergency unit.

“ Ok then. Everyone can go back to their normal routine, Pulse is ok” Polaris announced and the tension gripping everyone gradually left them all as they all left.

“ Thanks Alvara” Blink said.

“ It’s nothing” Alvara replied and her eyes landed on the 4 new mutants. Her brow frowned in confusion.

“ Erm…Blink, who are these people. I don’t remember seeing them here before” She couldn’t help but ask.

“ Oh. Meet Olivia, Charlotte, Benjamin and Rylee” Blink introduced, pointing at the three girls and a boy.

“ Wait a minute…are…you guys coming back from a mission?” Alvara asked.

“ Yeah” Blink replied.

“ And…Hudson went with…you guys?” Alvara questioned once again.

“ Yeah I did. Why the question?” Hudson replied and Alvara’s face clouded immediately in sadness. Deep inside, her anger was starting to boil. Blink understood immediately what her facial expression meant.

“ Alvara it’s not what….

“ Ok” Alvara cut her off.

“ Listen it’s not…..

She didn’t let Blink finish before she left, heading upstairs.

“ What’s wrong with her?” Hudson asked in confusion making Blink glare at him with folded arms.

“ What? Why are you giving me that look?” Hudson asked with a shrug.

“ Don’t you think you need to explain things to her?”

Getting upstairs to her room, Alvara flung her phone away and it landed safely on the bed.

“ Why?” She asked, running her hands through her hair while trying to calm her anger.

“ Why?” She asked again but this time her voice was a bit high.

“ I thought Thunderbird banned us from participating in any form of mission but no…they took Hudson along with them, wow” She scoffed angrily.

Hudson entered the room and saw her pacing to and fro, her hands on her temple.

“ Alvara” He called approaching. Seeing him made Alvara’s anger boil the more.

“ What are you doing here?” She hissed angrily.

“ Excuse me…this is my room too” Hudson hissed back making her scoff.

“ Anyways, I’m here about the mission stuff” Hudson added. A loud snort escaped Alvara’s lips.

“ About the mission you say…

“What about it? Oh you mean the fact that it was amazing without me?” She scoffed.

“ It’s not actually how you think it is” Hudson replied.

“ It was an urgent mission, that’s why we left without you” He added.

“ Urgent…really?” Alvara scoffed.

“ Blink, Eclipse, Thunderbird, Polaris and you carried out the mission. How many minutes will it take you to come call me, hmm…tell me?” She half yelled.

“ When I came to the room to call you, you weren’t there and not in the library either” Hudson tried explaining. What he said made Alvara chuckle angrily.

“ I wasn’t in the room nor the library but…didn’t you know I’ll be in the garden?”

“ No, you knew but the truth here is that you never wanted me to join you guys which was why you never tried looking for me!” Alvara yelled at him.

Hudson was taken aback by her outburst.

“ Jeez, calm down Alvara, what’s wrong with you? Why are you yelling at me?” He asked.

“ Why am I yelling at you? How will you feel if you were in my shoes? Oh no…you can never be in my shoes, right?”

“ And you know what, I am percent sure that you were more than glad that I didn’t come along, right?” Alvara scoffed at his face. Hudson lips parted a bit in shock and his anger started boiling too.

“ How can she point this whole thing to me?”

“ Hey what’s wrong with you? How is all this my fault and why the fuck are you venting your frustration on me? I wasn’t the one who told you and your boyfriend to romance each other in the garden while an urgent mission was going on” Hudson snapped angrily at her.

What he said caught Alvara off track.

“ Boyfriend?” She mumbled in confused.

“ Listen. You weren’t close by, that was why we went on without you. How will I know you were spending quality time with your boyfriend?” Hudson hissed. He could feel his anger boiling the more as he recalled what he saw in the garden.

“ You know what Hudson, get the hell out of here” Alvara snapped not understanding what Hudson was talking about. A scoff escaped Hudson’s lips.

“ Didn’t you hear when I said you should get out of here?!” Alvara yelled at him.

“ Hey, why are you making look as if I wanted to come here at the first place?” Hudson yelled back.

“ For you information, Blink was the one who sent me here so you can go to hell with your anger for all I care” Alvara tightened her fist in anger as Hudson turned, heading to the door. He stopped and turned.

“ You know what Alvara, I wanted to try explain things to you but since you’re all dumb about this whole thing, I’ll tell you what you want to hear…

“ I was chosen to go to that mission without you because….they knew I was better than you and with me around, I don’t think there’s any use of you” Hudson said before barging out. On getting outside, guilt clouded his heart.

“ What the heck did I just say.. fuck!” He cursed, groaning in frustration.

“ Well, she deserve it” He added before heading downstairs.

Immediately Hudson left the room, Alvara threw a hard punch at the wall. Thinking about the last thing Hudson said made her punch the wall the more until her fist were already bleeding.

“ Who the fuck does he think he is, huh?” She scoffed.

“ What made you think you’re better than me?” She growled angrily staring at the door. Her fist tightened as she could feel the hatred she has towards Hudson triple.

Unknowing to her, as she was glaring angrily at the door, her eyeballs gradually turned flam red and was now glowing like a burning fire. Right on her two palms, a small ball of fire was seen levitating and this only points to one thing;

“ ALVARA’S DARK SIDE OF FIRE WAS GRADUALLY MANIFESTING ………
