CHAPTER 65

There was noise in the class, their economics teacher just left and they were waiting for their next class.

The students talked and played while some were busy with their phones.

"... And I was so drunk and I don't think I can still remember anything that happened at the fire night camp. I am so stupid, I didn't even have to get the kiss from Liam that I planned for and it's so.. " Laura stopped when she noticed Elena was not paying attention at all.

"Hey, Elena! Back to earth. I've been talking to you for ages and you seemed lost. What are you thinking of?" Laura asked jerking her back to life as Elena got startled.

"Oh my God, I'm so sorry," Elena said blinking and batting her lashes.

"Are you OK? You don't seem OK at all" Laura said as Elena held her head.

"What's inside your bag?" Laura asked touching Elena's bag noticing it wasn't books that were in her bag but tools.

"Give that to me," Elena said taking it from her.

"What are you up to?" Laura asked devastated as Elena looked elsewhere trying to ignore her questions.

Peter glanced at Sophia and her friends and found out Rhoda wasn't there, maybe she was badly injured by the gunshot last night that's why she didn't come.

He was still lost in thought as Mr. Alaric walked into the class and the noise in the class died down.

They greeted him but he didn't respond as he walked to the whiteboard and wrote the topic on the board.

Elena glanced back and met the gaze of Liam staring at her seriously.

She stared at him for a while before facing her front.

They brought out their history books as he started teaching. It wasn't up to 10minutes before they heard gunshots from outside the school building.

The students panicked because of the multiple gunshots.

"Everyone stay down and do not panic" Mr. Alaric tried to calm them down but he couldn't as they were screams and shouts from the other classes and his.

"Do you think Emily has carried out her threats already?" Peter asked Alex who nodded.

"Yes, I think so," he said as the students began running around in panic.

"Everyone stay down please," Mr. Alaric said as he was shot at his leg.

"Ahhhh" he yelped in pain as he struggled to get under a desk.

Elena looked backward and saw Liam was gone already.

"Elena! We have to get out of here now!" Peter shouted at her.

"I need to get to Bonnie!" Alex yelled.

"Elena!!" Peter yelled her name as she took the other route that leads to their school museum, carrying her school bag with her.

She began running while staying low as she got to their school museum but the place was locked, the guards on duty were no longer there because everyone was running from the wrath of Emily Bellos.

She brought out a bar from her bag as she began hitting the lock, trying to break it. She continued that way till it was finally broken.

She walked inside the museum and started looking for the time machine Sarah built. She walked around the big museum, the place seem dark, and in order not to draw unnecessary attention, she didn't switch the night on, rather she used her phone touch light.

She searched for it till she finally spotted it in a glass box, she smile and dropped her bag on the ground.

She began hitting the glass box with the bar till it broke. The glass pierced her palms, injuring her as she yelped in pain.

Her phone began to vibrate as she took it, seeing it a call from Laura, she ended the call and kept her phone on flight mode.

She had a plan to accomplish and wouldn't want any disturbance.

She took the time machine and pushed it inside her bag and it became heavy, she carried the bag as she find her way out of the museum.

She got outside and walked in the hallway as the gunshots became louder, she walked to their school cafe and followed the back exit door that led to the cemetery then she find her way to the cottage.

Alex, Laura, Peter, and Bonnie were home and lots of people had died at the school.

Emily is still carrying out her madness and the Police force had gone if they could stop her.

"We need to take Bonnie out of Mystic Hollow, all these are getting out of hand" Alex complained as he walked around the sitting room.

"But I'm not scared," Bonnie said as Laura held her.

"We know, this is not about being brave or scared. It is what we are required to do. We have to get you out of here" Alex said squatting beside her.

"And what about you guys and dad?" She asked not happy at all.

"We'll think of a way and dad would be OK. We have to get you out of town now" Peter said to her as she nodded.

"I'll take her to Bloomspring, my grandma would be so happy to have her around," Laura said as Alex nodded.

"You guys be careful," he said.

"I'll come back. And we are gonna put things in order" she said.

"Ok, for now, we're are gonna look for Elena and face Emily Bellos," Peter said as they prepared to leave.

Elena stood at the front of the old cottage, grasses had outgrown everywhere and it looked weird.

She knocked on the cottage and the door opened by itself again. She walked inside as the door closed immediately.

She opened the window of the cottage as the rays of the sunlight shown brightly inside the room that has the time machine.

"Hmm, this looks like the time machine Sarah drew in her drawing book the other day she showed me Logan's photo as the next target" she muttered to herself as she dropped her school bag and sat on the ground.

The cottage looks like a lover's nest, it has lots of love-shaped drawings on the woods that passed for the walls.

Some names were cleaned with fury, seems the lovers had a problem.

The room that would pass for the kitchen in the cottage was scattered and the love nest might have belonged to some High School teenage lovers.

She switched on the phone torchlight so she could see the spoilt part of the time machine.

She found out the time was broken and some parts were missed.

She brought out the time machine Sarah built in the school bag and saw that that one has no buttons to insert time so it can't time travel.

She brought the screws out and started losing some vital parts from the time machine. She used it and started fixing on the big time machine that seemed spoilt.

"Hmm, looks like someone spoilt this on purpose," she said removing the broken parts from the big time machine as she used the small one in Sarah's time machine to replace it.

It refuse to fit in and it was taking hours already, she was sweating profusely as she sat back to rest.

She took her school bag, bringing the bottled water out, she gulped down the whole content as she threw the bottle away.

"Whoa! Never knew I was this thirsty!" She confessed looking at the empty bottle.

She resumed duty as she tried to make the little parts fit.

She removed the rubber band she used in packing her hair, she tried using it to balance the part and it seem to work but won't hold for long.

"That would hold for now," Elena said as she walked to the engine that had the time to punch.

The engine was broken so were the buttons and it has just 2033 on the time.

"Guess I can only visit 2033 then. But who built this time machine?" She thought as she saw a red love shaped drawn on one of the engines.

She brought out her phone, removed it from flight mode, and began filming herself.

"Good day guys, my name is Elena Gilbert and I'm 17 years old. Not for long though, cause I'll be clocking 18 on 21st December. So, I was always hearing an unfamiliar voice whispering my name and when I decided to overcome my fears and trace the voice, it took me right to this cottage that seemed to be a love nest for some high school teenagers. I saw this broken time machine and I had to amend it, the year 1999, May 13 was written on the time machine and I guess that was the day this time machine was built. Right now, I'm going to 2033, 10 years forward from now. I don't know what I might see there, but I just have to go. But whoever destroyed this time machine, is trying to prevent something from 2033 to come into 2023" she finished filming and dropped the phone on the ground close to her school bag.

She took the phone from her school bag and placed it in her back pocket because she doesn't know what she might meet in 2033.

"Let's do this," she said and enter the time machine and set it. There was a heavy beam of light as the time machine and she disappeared to the shores of an unknown lake.

The band she used in holding the part was shaking as she came out of the time machine.

Her nose was bleeding, she's not supposed to be here.

She left the time machine as she began to walk down, not knowing where she was. The whole place looked destroyed.

She walked and saw some places on fire as she got confused.

"Was there a war here? What is this place? Where am I?" She murmured seeing the place ablaze as she became scared.

"You're in Mystic Hollow, December 21st, 2033," a voice said from her back said as she turned back seeing a very familiar face.

"Sarah!" She exclaimed as nothing became to make sense at all.

"Sarah, is this you? You can talk?" Elena asked perplexed as Sarah smiled and nodded.

"It is I, Elena, and I'm alive, I'm not dead. I'm the one that has been whispering your name. Welcome to 2033" Sarah said as Elena became very confused.

She has lots of questions to ask, how come she was in 2033 instead of 2023? why are they in Mystic Hollow but she doesn't seem to recognize it anywhere? Why is everywhere ablaze and how the hell was Sarah alive? And it seems, she was badly injured.
