CHAPTER 58

They both stood and hurried to class, Mr. Adams wasn't there yet as they thanked their stars.

They occupied their seats as Laura waved and said hi to Liam.

He stared at her for a while and waved back without smiling.

(Oh my God! Did he just wave back at me? This is a work in progress) she thought smiling as she played with her fingers.

Agnes walked about the class as she shared the campfire flier.

She walked to Elena's seat and dropped one on her desk.

"I said I'm not intere--"

"I know, maybe you'll change your mind. Wish to see you and your friends there. Don't forget, it's on the 4th, on Saturday. Don't miss it" she said and walked up to Liam.

"Well, hello there, handsome," she said eyeing him as he scoffed.

"Miss James, back to your seat this instant!" Mr. Adams said walking to the class as Agnes grunted.

"But sir--"

"This instant!" He said as the class giggled.

"Hope to see you there handsome," she said dropping the flier on his desk as she walked to her desk.

He picked it and studied the flier as he scoffed.

"This is gonna be fun," he said shoving it inside his jacket pocket.

He glanced over at Laura who was still smiling and staring at him.

Elena folded the flier and dropped it on the ground as Mr. Adams called her.

"Miss Gilbert, do not litter my class. Pick that up this moment and put it in your bag!" He scolded as she flinched.

"I'm sorry Mr. Adams," she said going under her desk as she picked it up shoving it inside her bag.

She glanced over to Agnes who winked at her.

"I hate Thursdays" she muttered to herself and faced the board, looking at the topic Mr. Adams wrote on the board.

Sophia kept staring at Peter who stole a glance at her. Their gaze met as she glared at him.

He smiled shaking his head as he faced the board.

The bell was heard for lunch break as the students screamed for joy. They were tired of Mrs. Foggs distance and bearing class.

She would not stop asking them to come to solve difficult questions on the board and when they couldn't she would make a mockery of them.

"Let's take one more example before we go have our lunch," She said but the students wouldn't listen as they walked out of the class in twos and threes.

The Freaks got to their normal table and found Sophia and her girls on their table.

"Excuse me," Laura said to them but they wouldn't listen as they kept talking to themselves behaving as though no one was talking to them.

"You know at the campfire night, I'm gonna have sex, like sex," Rhoda said as the girls laughed.

"Well, I'm gonna make out with any lesbian I set my eyes on," Thelma said as Elena squeezed her face.

They never knew Thelma was a lesbian, no wonder she hates boys.

"Excuse me, girls. Can I have a word please?" Peter spoke as Sophia touched her ears.

"Hold on girls. Did someone just talk?" She asked as her friends laughed.

"Yh, I thought I heard the croaking sound of crickets" Anna added as they burst out in laughter making Alex mad. (This story is written by Naomi Innocent)

"Seems she finally got back to her bitches" Laura said lowly.

"Will you just listen!" Alex yelled at them as he banged his hand on their table making them flinch.

"What?!" Rhoda asked standing up now.

"We don't wanna cause a fuss. Just wanted to tell you girls that you are occupying our seats" Elena said calmly.

"We don't want trouble, we ju--"

"Can you please show me where the hell your names are inscribed on this table?" She asked half yelling as the freaks glanced at each other.

"See we don't want any trouble. Everyone in this school knows this is our table. Without causing much fuss, I--"

"Just shut up Laura. Screw you all" Anna said.

"Your dumb friend, Sarah is dead and her seat is empty, why don't you occupy hers huh?" Sophia asked with a smug smile.

"you dare not talk about her! You have to right to talk about--" Elena raised her hands to slap Sophia as a voice whispered her name.

"ELENA... " She stopped and brought her hand down as she looked around the cafe and receive a slap from Sophia.

"That's for trying to slap me you asshole!" She said as her friends laughed.

Students gathered and watched as they called Elena a weakling.

"You dare not--"

"Alex stop, please. I don't want a fight. Let's go" Elena said as Peter and Laura held her because she was imbalanced when Sophia slapped her unaware.

"Where are we going?" Alex asked.

"I don't know, anywhere but here," she said.

"You're so lucky she doesn't want any trouble. Else you would have seen the stuff I'm made up of" Laura said glaring at the girls.

"Fuck off bitch" Thelma said as the freaks walked out of the Cafe.

"I like your full lips though" Thelma screamed to her hearing.

"Screw you asshole!" Laura said showing her her middle finger as Peter walked back to them.

"I know why you are doing this and you should note that both of us can never work. Get that into your thick skull!" Peter warned Sophia as he walked away to meet the pace of his friends.

They walked till they got to the school garden, they sat under a big mahogany tree and were covered by its shades.

"Here's better," Elena said resting her back on the bench.

"Yh and the breeze are cool too. We should come here more often" Peter said as Laura sighted Liam running on the field.

"Guys, I'm coming. Have to catch up with someone" She said standing up as she raced to the fields.

"Good luck!" Peter shouted as she kept running.

"She's still into Liam?" Elena asked as Peter shrugged.

"I don't know why, I don't just like that dude," Elena said.

"Yh, me too," Alex and Peter said simultaneously as they all laughed.

She met the pace of Liam who was jogging and sweating all over.

She jogged with him and tried to catch his attention but he kept jogging without sparing her a look.

"Hi Liam, I'm Laura Saltzman and we do have classes together. What am I even saying? We are classmates actually and I'll like us to be friends" she said smiling.

"That's if you don't mind of course" she added.

She kept talking as he jogged and stopped at where he dropped his bag, the place was shaded by a tree. He sat down as Laura sat with him too.

"Here," Laura said handling the bottled water she saw in his bag to him.

He took it without saying thanks as he gulped down.

"I'm Laura and I know you are Liam," she said playing with her fingers but he kept gulping the water.

"I know. You said that earlier" he said dropping the empty bottled water on the field and knee hugged himself.

"Oh, sure you did. Didn't know you heard that" she said smiling looking elsewhere.

She glanced at her friends who were staring at them as she shrugged.

"I was wondering if you would be my date at the fire camp night on Saturday? " she confessed hoping he'd say yes.

"On one condition," he said as she smiled and couldn't contain the joy in her.

"Of course anything," she said smiling.

"You'll have to bring your friend, Elena with you," he said looking at her with his grey eyes and she became enchanted by them and was mesmerized.

"But why? Why the sudden interest in Elena?" She managed to say.

"You could easily say no if you're not interested."

"Sure thing. That's easy. Wherever I go, my friends always tag along. What are friends for huh?" She said smiling.

"Ok then. I'll be your date at the fire night camp" he said.

"Oh my god. Thanks a lot. And it's fire camp night, not the other way round" she said giggling.

"Yh whatever," he said lackadaisically.

'So... Can I have your number please?" She asked stretching her phone towards him, he took it and dialed his number on it.

"I prefer Chris to Liam," he said handing the phone back to her, she took it with a nod.

"Thanks, a lot," she said smiling, standing up.

"We'll meet at the treehouse then," she said as he nodded.

she raced to where her friends were sitting down with agitations and excitement.

"Hmm, that smile looks good on you," Elena said as she smiled.

"Yh, Liam, sorry, Chris agreed to go to the fire night camp with me as my date. He even gave me his number. I'm so excited" she said dancing about. (This story belongs to Naomi Innocent's Library)

"Seriously? I thought we wouldn't be attending that " Elena whined.

"Sorry. He already said yes so I can't miss out" she said sitting on the ground as a little boy from Bonnie's school walked up to Alex.

"Excuse me, can you help me with 4 bucks?" He asked stretching his arms towards Alex.

"4 bucks, wa--" he said searching himself as he stopped.

"Did you just say 4?' He asked the kid who nodded then it dawn on him that the number 4 he had been seeing wasn't just coincidental.

"I have 4 bucks on me," Peter said bringing it out from his wallet giving it to the kid.

"Thanks. Now I can buy the ice cream" the kid said running away as Alex remained dumbfounded.

"Is anything the matter?" Elena asked him as he looked up at her weirdly.

"I know this is bizarre, but I think the universe had been communicating to me but I'm not paying attention. I know Bonnie is kinda crazy but I think she is right this time" Alex said staring at them.

"Ok, go on," Laura said.

"I've been seeing the Number 4 lately. At the mall, on my way to school, at school, on Peter's shirt and just now this little boy just ask me of 4 bucks and that stupid fire camp night is holding on the 4th!" He said feeling as if he was going crazy.

"It's not just you, I've been seeing the number 4 too and a strange voice has been calling my name. It started from that waterfall Bonnie took us to. And believe me, that same voice woke me up at exactly 4:00 AM today. I think all these ain't coincidental" Elena expounded

"Me too, I saw a boy putting on a jersey with the number 4 on it. Edward ask me to do the laundry before 4 PM today and Peter is putting on a sleeved shirt with the number 4 on it, something he never does. This all makes sense!" Laura blurted out.
