Chapter 38: Chapter 38
*Laura Point Of View*
School was over and we all went our separate ways.
I went home...to Mr Howards home and I strolled inside. I couldn't see anything and I was a bit scared. It was scary....
"Who turned off the light?" I asked, wanting to shout out Luke's name.
"Surprise!!" My eyes were blind suddenly by light, balloons and confetti.
"What is all this? You guys scared me to death!" I breathed, with my hand on my chest.
"That was part of the plan," Kat grinned and I rolled my eyes.
"The main part of the plan was to excite you," I heard and I turned swiftly. Is that...Gab!
"What are you doing here?" I turned to him, feeling confused.
Just like that my friends came into view and my eyes almost popped out of their sockets.
"You must be kidding me!" I gasped. "How did get here before me"
"Fred helped us. And I am sure you didn't realise when he slowed down."
"I didn't know..." I chirped as I shook my head.
"Wow!" My eyes finally caught the way the place was decorated.
"It's beautiful," I complimented. "My dad is the one responsible. He said that he want you to...." Luke trailed off.
"Well, he'll tell you himself," he shrugged and I huffed. You could have just told me, to give a heads-up.
"But for now let's get you dressed," Kat beamed, as she dragged me upstairs into my room.
"Wait here. I have a dress for you," she spoke after her observation on me.
She ran out of the room, probably to her room and a few minutes she came back with a greenish-brown gown. She was smiling sheepishly at me and I just stared at her. What does she expect me to do.
"Do you like it?" She asked and I nodded. It was not that short or long. It was had a cool design. The back of the dress was long while the front was short.
She helped me put it on and I stared at my reflection.
"You look beautiful," she clapped and I sighed. "Let me get your makeup done."
She made her way to me but I stopped her. "I'm okay with this."
"But-"
"No buts. I don't do makeup Kat. No offense, Kat. It's not even my birthday..."
"It doesn't matter if it's your birthday or not. You can have a party," she shrugged and I sighed before brushing my dress with my hands.
"Okay. Let's go, dad wants to talk to you," she said and I nodded before following her downstairs.
We walked back to the living room and I was surprised to see more people there and Mr Howard standing in the middle of the crowd.
When he saw me, he smiled and beckoned me to his side.
"Everyone can I have your attention!" He shouted out and the chatters that once filled the room seized.
"Thank you," he stared at me. "I have to say some few things today...."
"I don't know how to start it," he chuckled and I smiled. "Laura, you have been the long lost glue in my family"
"You are humble, respectful and knowledgeable. When first you came into my home you brightened it up and I was glad," he sighed.
"Glad that my children were more lively and energized. But they say every good thing comes to an end, right?"
I was puzzled and yet astonished by his speech.
"Laura, you are no long a maid in this house. I don't want you as a maid," he spat and I gasped.
H-he doesn't neeedd me? I-I'm not a maid in this house again?
"So I should start packing?" I asked with my shaky voice and he smiled.
"You will pack and leave as a maid" my heart shattered. "But you will stay and live as my daughter," and the crowd busted with cheers.
"He adopted you, Laura," someone shouted from the crowd and I froze.
"W-what?" I screamed. "I'm glad to have you as a sister," Luke and kat walked out and hugged me.
"That's why we planned this party," he said while I cried on Luke and Kat's shoulders.
"Thank you," I sniffed as they patted my back.
"It's okay!!" They suited but that didn't stop me.
Can you imagine that I now have not even one person, but people that love me.. I started up with no friends or family, I faced betrayal but now I'm fine..... I have a family... I have friends.
