Chapter 48: Chapter 48

Russelli.

I received a call from an unregistered number, I wanted not to pick up but out of curiosity I did and it was Gavin, the man who had held Natasha's waist, the man who she had told me was the reason she was who she was today.

That daring man!

He asked me to meet him and I reluctantly went. We sat down at a wine bar and had a glaring competition before I finally spoke up seeing that he wasn't saying anything.

"Why did you call me out?" I lean back to my chair and try to act as nonchalant as I do, he seems calm with nothing to give away, so this was the American man that helped my Malinda Kristen.

"What do you think of me?" His questions surprised me since it was only the ladies I expected to hear these words from. "I mean to say, what do you think of me and Natasha and I want you to be honest about it." He folds his arms across his chest and leans back to the chair.

I clenched my teeth and I could feel a fit of rising anger with me. "Stay away from Natasha," I told him in anger and he smiled which made me want to smack him across the face.

"Why should I?" He said with gritted teeth. "Weren't you the one whose father tried to kill Natasha four years ago?"

Okay, he knows too much, maybe because Malinda had filled him up with this all but I was not happy he was using that against me, it was my father who tried to kill me and Malinda and not me.

"You should be the one who needs to stay away from Natasha and me because when she was in pain, I was there to comfort her and you were just blank like a sheet of paper and no memories of her." His lips twitched and I could tell that he was trying hard to provoke me and it was working.

"Do not remind me."

He held the bottom glass of his wine and stirred it, he was still calm like someone who should be a businessman but Natasha had told me that he was a doctor.

"Don't you think staying with Natasha would only cause her pain?" He glanced up at me and his eyes darkened. "Just let her go."

I clenched my fist under the table. "Your relationship with her is not just a friend or brother relationship, is it?" I could see that the only one who saw him as a brother was Natasha.

"You are right... I love Natasha." I frown and he blinks and the side of his eyes wrinkles as he curls his lips up in a smile like he was laughing at someone. "But she doesn't love me because she loves only you."

I could see the pain in his eyes and there were many hidden secrets that I could now read in his expression, this only shows one thing, Natasha had never reciprocated his feelings for her.

Gavin raised his glass to his lips and took a large sip before putting it down and opening his lips. "Watching her love only you no matter what she has been through hurts me a lot, seeing her makes me think I have failed in love too and I have never failed in anything ever in my life."

There was a big emotion in his voice and I could sense the pain he felt even when his expression didn't give it away. I know how much it hurts to fail in something, especially in love when you are too confident that you would win after knowing the reasons why you should win.

I was silent, waiting for him to continue. I was already sure that this was his defeat and he had not wronged me in any way for me to be offended. I should be grateful to him for taking good care of Malinda when I was blank just as he had said.

"I wish you would let her go because she is bound to suffer being with you." His words bear so much weight that I furrowed my brow.

"Why? Can't you just butt out of our lives, you are an American and what do you think you know about Malinda?" I asked with gritted teeth and glared at him.

"More than you do." His answer was like a sharp sword pricking into my heart. I was angry that he talks like he knows her just because he had stayed four years with her and me for just a few months.

"I know everything she likes and dislikes, everything she wants to see and what she doesn't want to see, her dreams and everything she wishes for, what she hates to listen to and what she wants to stop crying for, I know all that so just know that you know nothing about her." His eyes were aflame and I knew he could know all that but still...

"What are you trying to say?" I held his gaze and they were filled with mixed emotions.

"What I am trying to say is you should let go of Malinda if you love her because your father can do all things possible to kill her, even if it means sacrificing you who is his son for that." His words hit home, not only does he know about Malinda, but he also knew about my father and his evil ways.

"Don't you know your dad was the man who sent the truck that caused the accident four years ago?" My eyes flared and my lips went dry and it felt like my head was spinning as I looked at Gavin, this was news to me.

My father had sent that truck? Not only had he sent his men after us? He had also sent the truck driver to crush us? Me, his son, me and Malinda...

"This is the part I hid from Natasha because I don't want her to leave you again with the hurt she felt then because you can't protect her from your father, so let her go Russeli." Now I understood why he had said my father caused Natasha's accident.

I held the arm of the chair to get up, my legs were trembling, I was out of focus, the bar was suddenly silent only the words Gavin had said kept playing in my head, my father had sent the truck driver to kill us.

He was evil, but was he this evil? Was he this kind of monster?

I turned around and left the bar, I got into my car and I was not in the right state to drive but right now I have to see the devil I thought I have as a father, right now all I needed to do was to confirm if this was the truth.
