Chapter 423: Chapter 423
Charlotte looked at him as if he were starving.
Considering he’s a grown man, he’s bound to have a stronger appetite than hers.
She silently got up, took two vacuum-packed tea eggs from the drawer, and handed them to him: "They should still be good."
Ronan examined the packaging and the date; still pretty fresh.
He unceremoniously opened it, ate one in two bites, and only thought about Charlotte when he was about to open the second. He asked her, "Do you want some?"
Charlotte disdainfully said, "Not as much as you can eat."
Ronan: "It’s just a bowl of noodles and two eggs; how’s that considered a lot? As a man, I can’t be like you little girls; even a cat eats more than you."
Charlotte didn’t argue back, burying her head and eating her own food.
After eating to his heart’s content, he lay back on the sofa like an old master, rubbed his belly, and said, "It’d be great if there were some fruit now."
Charlotte rolled her eyes and ignored him, bending down to clean up the bowls on the table.
The ceramic bowl shattered loudly on the floor.
Ronan immediately sat up, seeing Charlotte crouching to pick up the ceramic shards.
He hurried over, lightly chastising, "How could you be so careless?"
Then he pushed her hand away, afraid she’d be cut: "You go tidy up the kitchen; I’ll do this."
Charlotte stood up, silently glanced at her hand twice, then walked to the kitchen without saying a word.
Things she’s been fearing and worrying about are slowly happening...
Ronan only thought she was careless, never considering any other reasons.
That night, he just lounged on the sofa, refusing to leave, saying he was exhausted from work and didn’t want to move.
Charlotte had no choice; if he wanted to sleep on that small sofa, so be it. He indeed seemed quite fatigued.
Half his body lay on the sofa, with his legs hanging off the edge, touching the floor.
After showering, Charlotte saw him asleep and didn’t have the heart to wake him.
She went back to the room, got a pillow and blanket, and casually draped them over him.
He merely opened his eyes to glance at her; unclear whether he was conscious or not, he smiled at her.
In her moment of stunned silence, he stretched his legs and rested them on the coffee table, then closed his eyes again.
Charlotte sighed softly, turned off the living room lights, and went back to her room.
Even with the door locked, she couldn’t sleep well the whole night.
Having a man in the house made her feel uneasy, and she hadn’t touched sleeping pills for a long time, nor did she want to.
Landon naturally hasn’t had much leisure these past few days, leaving early and returning late.
Shannon was also busy with the company’s new product launch, leaving only the evenings for them to spend together.
Bringing the day’s fatigue back home, leaning against each other felt like recharging one another.
Most times, Shannon would intermittently complain to him about work troubles, but Landon seldom talked about his work.
Occasionally, while she spoke, she’d fall asleep, and he would get up to continue his work until late at night, or she’d wake up in the middle of the night and call him to bed before he’d rest.
Simon stayed in the hospital for a couple of days before being discharged, and afterward, his mood remained low.
Unable to find Susan, he grew more despondent by the day.
Even Landon said he’d never seen him before.
Simon always left an impression of being emotionally stoic, eternally composed, capable of handling any situation calmly.
Yet this time, it became his downfall.
Shane watched his eldest grandson in such a state and was also quite anxious.
But fortunately, Simon still didn’t know Shane had looked for Susan, so he remained respectful to his grandfather, listening somewhat when spoken to.
That night, Shane planned a family gathering under the guise of celebrating Simon’s discharge.
Landon and Shannon attended with Leo.
Upon arrival, Simon was absent, so Shannon noticed a few strangers sitting on the sofa. The latest_epɪ_sodes are on_the ⓝovelFire.net
Although there were many relatives in the Rhodes family, Shannon somewhat remembered their appearances.
Among them were two women and one man, a middle-aged couple with a younger girl, seemingly a family.
This scene inevitably led Shannon to a conclusion.
Sitting nearby to overhear, sure enough, they were there for Simon’s matchmaking.
As Skylar’s friend, Shannon couldn’t do much about their personal feelings, but she hoped Susan would be the choice for the "sister-in-law."
Sitting aside, she discreetly observed, noting the elders all liked similar types.
There was a resemblance to Simon’s last matchmaking partner, knowledgeable, gentle and elegant, courteous before the elders.
These kinds of girls make elders happy.
Not knowing her off the bat, yet she seemed okay, likely a smart woman with some acumen.
While chatting, Simon returned from outside.
No one knew his whereabouts; ever since Susan left, his countenance never improved, and this time was no exception.
Shane cheerfully said to Simon as he entered, "Back now, Simon?"
He simply uttered an "Mm," changed his shoes, glanced at the strangers on the sofa, and planned to head upstairs without saying a word.
Shane quickly stopped him: "This is your Uncle Ward, remember?"
Simon glanced at the man, clearly having no recollection of any "Uncle Ward," but politely greeted him with lukewarm civility: "Hello, Uncle."
Shane promptly said, "Come over here to sit; Vincent is here, and you brothers can chat when you have time."
Whether for Vincent’s sake or not, Simon paused before turning back to sit beside Vincent.
"This is Uncle Ward’s daughter, Anna."
Simon merely nodded as a form of greeting, while the girl called "Anna" warmly introduced herself: "Anna Ward."
A familiar setup, Simon naturally understood what his grandfather was up to.
Neither his grandfather nor the Ward family mentioned the matchmaking, so Simon didn’t express his feelings or stance.
But while eating, whether from his grandfather or the Ward family, the conversation continuously steered toward Anna and Simon, clearly intending to pair them.
The news about Simon and Susan was widely known, and surely Anna had knowledge of it too.
With Susan recently leaving, only a woman with nerve would dare come for a matchmaking session now.
Upon leaving, grandfather told Anna she should visit often, to which she cleverly responded, "I’ll visit you frequently, Grandpa."
Subtle yet pleasing to grandfather.
After the Ward family left, Shane asked Simon, "What do you think of Anna?"
