Chapter 402: Chapter 402
Ronan Rhodes is full of tricks, not your average amount, and to get it over with sooner, he whispered to Landon Sutton as soon as he returned to the meeting room: "Master Nate, your wife is here."
This trick worked. After finishing the current topic, Landon Sutton announced the meeting’s adjournment, leaving the rest for tomorrow.
Ronan Rhodes applauded his own cleverness, breathing a sigh of relief.
Otherwise, he probably wouldn’t even have had time for lunch today.
Landon Sutton walked into his office and saw Shannon Quinn standing by the window, apparently on a call with her best friend.
The person on the other end must be either Erin Bishop or Susan Wilde.
Landon Sutton walked quietly behind her, hugging her from behind, wrapping his arms around her waist, and rested his chin on her shoulder, taking a deep breath of her fragrant hair, and closed his eyes.
Through the reflection in the glass, Shannon Quinn recognized him, so she wasn’t surprised, continuing her chat with Erin Bishop nonchalantly, only hanging up a minute later.
She put away her phone, placed a hand on his hand, and turned to ask, "You’re too tired, aren’t you?"
Landon Sutton shook his head, released her, and asked, "Why did you come over?"
Shannon Quinn: "I saw on TV that you seemed unhappy, so I came to check on you."
Landon Sutton: "Just worn out from dealing with all this stuff."
Shannon Quinn: "You haven’t even had lunch, have you?"
Landon Sutton raised his hand to look at his watch, surprised at how quickly time had passed, already well past lunchtime.
Seeing his reaction, Shannon Quinn got her answer: "Work is work, but you need to take care of your health too. The company was fine without you for quite some time, no need to exhaust yourself the moment you come back."
Landon Sutton didn’t necessarily have to pack his schedule so tightly; he just wanted to keep himself busy.
Shannon Quinn didn’t blame him, but as soon as he idled, he’d think about everything that happened, about the child they’d lost...
"What do you feel like eating? I’ll go downstairs and get it for you."
Landon Sutton held Shannon Quinn’s hand: "Let’s go together."
Shannon Quinn, though having just had lunch, still accompanied him and ate a bit.
Only yesterday she couldn’t stand the sight of him, but seeing him today, her heart was filled with unease.
She knew that regardless of whether others forgave or not, she could never forgive in her heart.
It was expected that he would blame himself; she’d help him recover from this mood as quickly as possible.
"Do you have something to do this afternoon?" After lunch, as they walked out of the restaurant and waited at the crosswalk for the green light, Shannon Quinn asked Landon Sutton beside her.
Landon Sutton looked down at her and said, "If you’re around, I could have nothing to do."
Shannon Quinn smiled with her lips pressed together: "Wouldn’t that make me a femme fatale harmful to the nation?"
The green light turned on, and Landon Sutton guided her across to the other side of the road.
Shannon Quinn: "Actually, I meant to say that when Leo gets out of school, we can pick him up together. He’ll definitely be happy to see you’re back." Follow current novels on novèlfire.net
Landon Sutton nodded: "Alright, then you go nap in my office. I’ll call you when I’m done."
"Don’t overstrain yourself." Shannon Quinn said, glancing at his previously injured foot.
His dress pants covered it, hiding the recovery progress, so she raised her head to ask: "Is your foot better?"
Landon Sutton replied lightly: "Just a scratch."
Shannon Quinn pursed her lips: "Were you acting at the police station then?"
Landon Sutton couldn’t help but smile: "Didn’t your clever mind figure it out?"
Shannon Quinn: "And you went around causing trouble and fighting, not afraid of being laughed at."
Shannon Quinn grumbled a bit, and Landon Sutton just listened with a smile to her complaints and reminders.
Having someone nagging in his ear , it felt like something he hadn’t experienced in a very long time and he cherished it.
Reflecting on this period, it was indeed too lonely being by himself.
Being able to regain the past and return to her side, maybe that’s the completeness he sought.
Back in the office, Shannon Quinn wasn’t in the mood for an afternoon nap, lying there with her eyes open, her mind occupied.
Leo had held quite a bit of prejudice against Landon Sutton during this period, and she feared that when father and son met, the child might not forgive Landon Sutton right away.
At that time, Landon Sutton would likely be hurt again.
The time he spent away wasn’t too long or too short, yet during this period, Leo was probably the one who changed the most.
Since Shannon Quinn’s return from the miscarriage, she rarely saw the child smile.
Compared to the past when Landon Sutton was around, Leo seemed to have lost the innocence a child his age should have.
Even the teachers had called Shannon Quinn to discuss this, saying Leo wasn’t as cheerful at school as before, more withdrawn, less willing to play with other kids, preferring to sit alone with a book or daydream.
Shannon Quinn had tried to console Leo, but didn’t know how best to help, feeling that only when Landon Sutton returned would the child’s heart gradually open.
In the afternoon, Landon Sutton wrapped up work early and, about half an hour before the child’s school ended, drove Shannon Quinn to Leo’s school.
While waiting outside the school gates, Shannon Quinn, after much deliberation, decided to prepare Landon Sutton psychologically.
Shannon Quinn pursed her lips and said, "While you were away, Leo has been quite upset, so when he sees you later, he might throw a little tantrum. Don’t take it to heart, he’ll get over it in a couple of days."
Landon Sutton had considered this possibility himself, yet he hadn’t realized Shannon Quinn had been worrying about him all along; no wonder he sensed her unease all afternoon, turns out these were the matters weighing on her mind.
Landon Sutton exhaled, raised his hand, and gently ruffled her hair.
As the bell rang signaling the end of the school day, children started coming out one by one.
In the crowd, they immediately spotted Leo.
Leo first saw Shannon Quinn and then noticed Landon Sutton standing beside her.
From his expression, it was clear that seeing Landon Sutton didn’t bring much joy.
Other kids, seeing their parents, would rush happily towards them with their little backpacks, but Leo remained composed, maintaining his stride until he reached them, merely greeting Quinn with, "Mom, why isn’t Grandma here?"
Shannon Quinn secretly glanced at Landon Sutton, trying to ease the atmosphere: "Aren’t you happy that Mom and Dad came to pick you up?"
It was then that Leo looked up at Landon Sutton but still didn’t call out to him.
Landon Sutton had anticipated the child might be sulky and cold, but he hadn’t expected Leo to look at him with such unfamiliar eyes.
A father’s heart ached a bit.
He said nothing, simply took the backpack from Leo’s shoulder and led mother and son toward the car.
