Chapter 400: Chapter 400

Ronan Rhodes walked into the hotel and saw three people at the front desk, two men and one woman.

The girl wasn’t the one he was looking for, but the uniform she wore was the same as the girl he saw in the hospital during the day.

"One couple suite," the woman in the red dress said, holding Ronan’s arm with one hand and raising a finger to the front desk clerk with the other.

"Please wait a moment."

Ronan looked around and inquired at the front desk, "Is it just you as the only woman here?"

From the moment Ronan entered, the girl had been staring at him a bit absentmindedly. Hearing Ronan speak to her, she immediately answered truthfully, "There’s another girl, but she works the day shift."

Ronan: "What’s her name?"

Girl: "Charlotte Sheffield."

"Charlotte Sheffield..." Ronan murmured.

The woman, curious and suspicious, asked, "Who is she?"

Ronan didn’t answer the woman’s question. He just took out his phone to pay for the room, retrieved his ID card and room keycard, and thoughtfully escorted her into the hotel elevator.

Shannon Quinn was awakened by the cold at night and returned from the balcony to the room.

Originally intending to check the time on her phone, she didn’t expect to see several missed calls.

She recognized the number; it was his new number since coming back to the area.

She looked at the call times. They were made while she was outside enjoying the cool air, three calls in succession.

Seeing those three missed calls, Shannon Quinn sat on the edge of the bed in a daze for a while.

Seeing it was already past four in the morning, she decided to return the call in the morning.

Drowsiness overwhelmed her in the deep of night, and without the heart to speculate why he called, she just went to the bathroom and then fell asleep on the bed.

Meanwhile, the man who couldn’t reach her was sleepless all night.

He spent the night in the river wind, finishing an entire bottle of strong liquor, and successfully caught a cold.

At dawn, Landon Sutton drove away with a weary body.

His head felt heavy, his thoughts muddled.

His destination was clear, directly to Shannon Quinn’s home.

To be precise, their home.

The car stopped several hundred meters away from the villa gate, watching that door from afar.

He stared at it for several hours.

The day was fully bright.

He saw Catherine Yardley leading Leo out of the gate.

Leo had grown taller and much thinner, the baby fat on his face much less visible.

More and more like him.

After the two left, Landon Sutton checked the time on his wristwatch.

Almost eight o’clock, and he didn’t know if she was awake.

He finished the half cigarette left between his fingers, opened the car door, stubbed out the cigarette on the roadside garbage can.

He walked to the gate, looked down at the lock, and keyed in the familiar code.

That feeling of coming home stirred many emotions in him.

Entering the house, it was quiet all around, with only the faint sound of his leather shoes on the floor.

According to her previous routine, she shouldn’t be awake at this hour.

Landon Sutton walked to her bedroom and gently turned the doorknob.

He pushed the door open, and the tightly drawn curtains blocked out the light, leaving the room dim but with the outline still visible.

Seeing the woman lying on the large bed with her back to him, her long hair scattered somewhat messily on the pillow.

Landon Sutton paused at the door for a few seconds before softly approaching the bed, then sitting down.

His movements were gentle, and Shannon was deep asleep and didn’t awaken her.

Landon Sutton leaned over, supporting himself next to her ear.

The pillow’s sudden weight pulled Shannon abruptly from her dreams. She woke up, startled, and widened her eyes at the man who appeared before her.

Seeing they were merely a few centimeters apart, she instinctively shrank her neck back to avoid him, but Landon Sutton followed, seizing a domineering kiss...

Shannon Quinn furrowed her brow. Though she knew he was her husband, she hadn’t viewed him in that capacity for some time, so her initial thought was feeling violated.

Her limbs fought back unreservedly against Landon Sutton.

She wasn’t sure where she kicked him, but perhaps it was his injured leg, and he grunted, releasing her.

Coupled with the previous night’s alcohol and his cold, he was somewhat weak, giving Shannon the chance to easily push him away.

She immediately got out of bed, standing at what she considered a safe distance, looking at him lying on the bed in pain, frowning.

"How did you get in?!" Shannon Quinn questioned, not caring about his injury.

Landon Sutton rose to stand, facing her.

They stared at each other across the bed; her eyes were alert and wary, while his gaze was filled with complex emotions.

There was longing, heartache, guilt, and remorse...

Watching him slip off his leather shoes, stepping directly across the bed to her side, Shannon tried to evade, but he had already grabbed her arm, holding her tightly in his embrace.

She struggled mightily, fists pounding on his chest, her actions revealing her resistance and rejection of him: "Let me go! What are you doing?!"

The hoarse voice, just four simple words.

Shannon Quinn stopped all her movement, looked up at him in shock with her eyes growing moist, turning red, and tears welled up, trembling off her lashes.

Before the tears slid down her face, Landon Sutton reached up to wipe them away, his voice soft almost to a whisper: "It’s me, I’m back."

The more he wiped, the more tears came. Shannon Quinn hugged him tightly, burying her face into his chest, sobbing like a child...

Landon Sutton held her, gently smoothing her hair with his large hand, feeling the dampness on his shirtfront, his heart aching dully.

He let her cry in his arms for a long time, understanding the difficulties and grievances she had endured.

When he was there, she could live under his wings as a worry-free princess, showered with love. Follow current ɴᴏᴠᴇʟs on n͟o͟v͟e͟l͟f͟i͟r͟e͟.net

By herself, she could strongly bear the burdens and hardships of life, enduring all the psychological torment and agony.

Shannon Quinn’s emotions gradually stabilized, releasing him and quickly wiping away the tears on her face, not wanting him to see her so disheveled.

She didn’t want to dwell in the recent torments nor wished for the guilt and self-blame of the newly recalled Landon Sutton.

So she didn’t talk about all she had experienced during this period, only muttering, "You went drinking again, you reek of alcohol!"

Landon Sutton looked down at her, forcing a weak smile, and said, "I’m sorry."

Without understanding why he was apologizing, Shannon Quinn didn’t want to hear an apology from him.

The one who lost his memory was Hayden Bellamy, and she only harbored resentment towards Hayden.

The one who regained his memory was Landon Sutton.

He was the person she loved most.

She didn’t want him to suffer from self-reproach for Hayden’s wrongdoings.

"From now on, you’re not allowed to go to bars anymore!"

Landon Sutton nodded, "Alright."

Shannon sniffled, rubbing her eyes as she walked towards the bathroom, "I’m going to freshen up, you go and heat my breakfast, I want to eat right after I’m done."
